UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE C. CHASE, OF NEXV YORK, N; Y.
BIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 346,191, dated July 27, 1886.
Application filed June 8, 1886. Serial No. 204,545. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I. GEORGE G. CHASE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bins for Holding Coffee, Sugar, and Similar Articles and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, cl ar, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to secure a bin for holding coffee or other similar articles, which will be convenient and useful in form and economical in space.
My invention is clearly shown in the accompanying drawings,in which Figure 2 is a front elevation of my improved bin, and Fig. l is a partial vertical section of the same on theline w x of Fig. 2.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the two figures.
a is the body of the bin. It is made in the shape and in the manner ofa barrel. The upper ends of thestaves are cut off in a plane that inclines toward the front. Around the upper ends of the staves thus cut oil are placed the hoops b b. These hoops are inclined at an angle, the inclination of the upper edge of the upper hoop I) being the same as the inclination of the upper ends of the barrelstaves. The under hoop b overlaps the upper hoop somewhat at the front of the bin, and in this way serves to support the uppcr hoop. 1
Between the upper hoop and the stavcs in front a re-euforcing piece or strip,c, is placed. This arrangement of the upper hoops of the bi u gives strength and solidity to the structure as a whole, and makes it more convenient and accessible in use, and strengthens it where the greatest strain will be brought to bear upon it.
d is the cover or lid, which is made of two pieces hinged to each other. One piece is fastened firmly to the body of the bin. The other piece is hinged to the fixed piece, and can be raised or lowered, as desired.
The lid is preferably made of some kind of wood that will not taint or taste the article within.
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A bin for holding coffee or similar articles, consisting of a barrel-body having its upper edge inclined toward the front, and inclined hoops b b and strengtheningpiece c, and inclined hinged lid or cover d, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
GEO. C. CHASE.
