To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRI Zorrr. of Monroe, in the county of Green and State of IVis consin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Pipe Elbows,ofwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved stovepipe elbow of cheap and simple construction; and the invention consists of a stovepipe elbow made of two longitudinal sections or shells that have the stock crowded at the in ner edge into one fold,and that are riveted together at the edges.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved stove'pipe elbow. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same with a part broken away; Fig. 3, a vertical longitudinal section; Fig. 4-, a vertical transverse section, and Fig. 5 a detail of the blank of one section or shell of the elbow.

My improved stove-pipe elbow consists of two longitudinal semi-sections or shells, A A, of semicircular crosssection, which are connected at their outer and inner meeting edges by rivets a a. Each shell or section A is bent into shape by pressing the blank into a mold of the required form, and cutting off the surplus metal at the edges, as shown in Fig. 5, wherein the dotted lines represent the blank before and the full lines the same after it is so bent into shape. At the inner edge of the shell A, where the stock is crowded together by the pressing operation, a single fold, b, is formed, which may be bent in an inward or outward direction. The elbow can be made either rounded ott' at right angles or with any other angle, so that elbows for any desired application are obtained. One semisection, A, can be used for corner-pieces of gutters. The ends of the elbow are connected in any suitable mannerto the connecting-pipes,either (No mod c] by means of creases, grooves, or ridges, or in any other manner.
My improved stove-pipe elbow can be made of comparatively small pieces of sheet metal, and can be furnished at less cost than the pipeelbows heretofore in use, especially as lighter sheet metal can be used for the same.
I am aware that it is not new to cut slits in the metal comprising an elbow and lap one edge of each of said slits over the other; but such construction renders the elbow defective in that it is liable to leak more or less at each cut, whereby the draft is impaired, whereas in the present device the metal being folded and not cut this contingency is avoided.
I am aware that itis also old to form crimps in-one side of the body of a straight piece of pipe, thereby causing it to assume a bent shape in the form of an elbow; but in this instance costly and complicated machinery is necessarily employed, while.in the present case the crimps or folds being made in the edges of two blanks, which are afterward fastened together, the operation of forming them is rendered much simpler and more easily accomplished.
