SAW-GUMMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,532, dated March 9, 1886.
Application filed August 29, 1885. Serial No. 175,644. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALBERT B. STEVEN- SON and JOHN STUEMPGES, both of Stevensous Pier, inthe county of Door and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Saw-Gummer, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements on the Patent No. 304,146, issued on the 26th day of August, 1884, to John Stuempges for a saw-gummer.
The object of our invention is to obtain a better adjustment of the dies.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts and details, as will be fully described and set forth hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a side view of our improved sawgummcr. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, parts being broken out and others in section.
In the device shown and described inv the Patent No. 304,146, dies 0 are held in the base-block A, but no nieanswere provided for adjusting said dies.
In our improved saw-glimmer dies R are held by bolts R in the under surface of the upper plate, D, directly above the dies 0 of the base-block. On the sides of the basebloek A, U shaped frames or yokes S are secured, and through the same screws '1 are passed, which rest against'the side edges of the diesO, and by means of said screws the lower adjustable dies can easily be shifted to register with the upperfixed dies. A curved transverse gagestrip, V, is held on the top plate, D, by the bolt V, passed through a 1011 gitudinal slot in the top plate, and the endsV of said strip are bent down to form stops, sets, or gages, against which the saw can rest while being moved between the base and top plate.
Wedges IV, having longitudinal slots W, are placed on the upper surface ofthe top plate, D, at the ends and below the cam-levers O. Bolts P are passed through the slots in the wedges, and by means of said bolts the wedges are locked inpthe desired position.
By using the wedges the adaptability of the implement or tool isincreased, as any thickness can then be clamped between the base and the top plate.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. In a saw-gummer, the combination, with a base-bloekand a clamping-plate, of dies in the base-block, dies in the clamping-plate, and devices for adjusting the dies in the basebiock, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a saw-gummer, the combination, with a base-block and a clamping plate, of dies held in the base-block and clampingplate, the yokes S on the sides of the base-block, and the screws T in the yokes, for adjusting the dies on the base-block, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. In a saw-gummer, the combination, with a base-block, a clamping'plate, and the carn-' levers O, for pressing the clamping-plate on the base-block, of the longitudinal slotted wedges \V and the bolts P, substantially as herein shown and described.
4. In a saw-gummer, the combination, with a base-block, A, and the clamping-plate D, of the cam-levers O and the wedges IV, between the cam ends of plate D, substantially as herein shown and described.
ALBERT B. STEVENSON. JOHN STUEMPGES.
