JANE MIKEL, OF GILLUM, ILLINOIS.
COMBINED SQUEEZER AND STRAINER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,185, dated March 2, 1886.
Application filed June 11, 1885. Serial No. 168,393. (No model.)
accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved squeezer and strainer, which is intended for domestic or household use, and which may be readily employed for pressing lard or fruit; and myinvention consists, more especially, in the construction and combination of the parts, as will-be hereinafter fully set forth, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing s,which illustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a side view of myimprovement. Fig. 2 is a sectional View. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through the line 00 x of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a detail sectional plan on the dotted line z 2, Fig. 1.
A A are the pressing boards, which are provided at their upper ends with handles a, and the ends of these pressing boards opposite the handles are pivotally connected to each other by means of hinges b b. The intermediate portions of the pressing-boards are cut away or recessed, as shown at B, and the surfaces of these recessed portions are each provided with a vertical channel, 0, from which diverge inclined channels 0. The vertical channels lead into openings 0 0, located in the thicker portions of the pressing-boards, between the hinges b b.
To the edges of the board A are secured plates D, which are provided with numerous perforations, and the opposite edges from which they are secured to the board A are turned outward, so as to receive a plate, E, the edges of which are turned over so as to provide a groove within which the outwardly-turned portions of the perforated plates D will fit. The plate E is provided near its upper end with a knob, e, by means of which the sliding plate E may be readily removed from the perforated plates D.
The upper portions of the plates D D are curved, as shown at Figs. 1 and 2, and near their upper edges and parallel therewith are located a series of perforations, d d, which are intended for the reception of a pin, F, which is of sufficient length to extend beyond the plates. This pin is for the purpose of holding the movable pressing-board A either against the plate E or upon the material to be pressed. This pin may also be employed for opening the perforations in the plates D D. The board A, adjacent to its handle, is provided with a hook, G, which may, when desired, be placed over the edge of a suitable receptacle to hold the strainer or press in place.
The operation of my invention is as follows: The movable board A is first placed against the sliding plate E, and the material to be pressed, so as, to force the juices therefrom, is'
placed between the boards A A. The handles are then brought together, and the juices will be forced through the perforations in the side plates, and will also flow down the channels c G and out of the openings 0.
WVhen it is desired to clean the press, the sliding plate E may be removed from the perforated side pieces, so as to allow the parts to be opened widely, to allow easy access to the same.
I claim I 1. In a combined squeezer and strainer, the combination 'of a stationary board having perforated side pieces attached thereto, and a movable board hinged to the stationary board, said boards being recessed and provided with channels, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a combined squeezer and strainer, the combination of the boards A A, provided with handles and pivotally attached to each other at their lower ends, perforated side pieces rigidly attached to one of said boards, and a removable plate, E, mounted in ways of the said side pieces, substantially as set forth.
3. In a combined squeezer and strainer, the combination of the pressingboards A A, recessed on their inner sides and provided with vertical and inclined channels and openings In testimony whereof I affix my signature in G O, perforated side plates rigidly attached to presence of two Witnesses. one of the boards and provided at their up- T per edges with perforations d, a pin, F, ,adapt- TALE MIKEL' 5 ed to be passed through said perforations, and XVitnesses:
a removable end plate, substantially as se J. R. CASE, forth. IDA L. CASE.
