EGG-REGISTER.

SPECEPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 338,333, dated February 16, 1886.

Be it known that I, CASPER MARTI, of Minneapolis, Hennepin county, Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Egg-Register, of which the following is a full, clear, and we act description.

The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved apparatus for counting eggs and automatically registering the number of eggs counted.

The invention consists in the combination, with a box, of a pivoted platform provided at one end with apertures for receiving eggs and of a counting device operated from the said platform.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming partof this specification, in which similar letters of referenceindieate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a plan view of an egg-crate provided with my improved egg-register. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the egg-register on the line a: 00, Fig. 1, lookingin the direction of the arrows. Fig. 3 is acrosssectional elevation of the same on the line 3 y, Fig. 2.

in the top of the box A acover or platform, B, )rovided with three apertures, G, at one end, is pivoted in such a manner that one end can swing down until it rests upon a pin, a, projecting inwardly from one side of the box, and the end ol'the platform provided with the aperture is raised above the top of the box. The apertures G are of such size as to adapt them each to receive an ordinary egg.

In a casing or box, G, on the outside of the box A, a wheel, H, is pivoted, which has a certain number of teeth, J, on the inner edge ofits rim, and has the numbers of the teeth produced on the outer edge of the rim. The numbers can run consecutively from one to one hundred, (more or less,) or the numbers can indicate dozensand quarter dozens. This depends upon the number of apertures O in the plate 13. The wheel H is provided with a tooth, K, projecting from its outer side and adapted to engage the teeth L on a wheel, M, parallel with and adjacent to the Wheel H.

There are ten teeth L on the wheel M, and for each revolution of the wheel H the wheel M is revolved one tooth by the tooth K. As many numbers are produced on the rim of the wheel M as thereare teeth Lon the said wheel. A pawl-rod, N, is pivoted to the apertured end of the pivoted top or platform B, and engages with the teeth J of the ratchet-wheel H. The cover R is provided with a slot, S, through which the top numbers of the wheels H and M can be seen.

The box A is provided with hooks T, for holding it on the upper edge of an egg-case, WV, which may be of any desired construction, and may be divided into separate compartments for receiving the eggs, or may contain eggs packed in chopped straw, &c.

V V are eggs, three in number, placed endwise in the apertures C of the pivoted top B.

The operation is as follows: The wheels H and M are set at 0, and three eggs-that is, a quarter-dozcnare placed in the apertures C of the pivoted top B, and swing the same down into the horizontal position, thus causing the pawl-rod N to move the wheel H the distance of one tooth, farther movement of the wheel being prevented by the contact of the platform as it reaches a horizontal position with the table-top. iVhen the wheel H has made one revolution, the wheel M'is moved one tooth, and so on.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a register, the combination, with the box containing registering mechanism, of the in clined lilting platform having at one end receiving-apertures and resting at its opposite end, in its tilted or inclined position, upon a pin projecting from the inside of the box, said platform also having a rod connected to its upper end, said rod having its lower end engaging a toothed wheel of the registering mechanism, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
