Box 788, Bridgeport, Wash. 98813 Filed May 31, 1966, Ser. No. 554,139 1 Claim. (CI. 34-90) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A clothes dryer having a reces upon its underside so to fit over the top of an oil stove and use the heat therefrom to dry garments placed within the dryer.
This invention relates to dryers for clothing. More specifically it relates to dryers which do not contain a heating element self contained therewithin.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a clothes dryer which can be readily placed upon a conventional oil stove of a home for the purpose of receiving the heat therefrom so that the heat may be utilized to dry clothing contained within the clothes dryer.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a clothes dryer having self contained means for tumbling clothing therewithin during the drying operation.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a clothes dryer which includes a hot air exhaust for dispensing moisture laden hot air from the dryer.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an adapter which serves to fit a clothes dryer comprising the present invention upon .an oil stove having a different top dimension.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a clothes dryer for use upon the top of an oil stove which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and eflicient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein,
FIGURE 1 is a side elevation view of one form of the present invention shown mounted upon the top of the stove,
FIGURE 2 is a side elevation view thereof,
FIGURE 3 is front elevation view of a modified model of the present invention,
FIGURE 4 is a front elevation view of still another modified form of clothes dryer wherein the clothing is supported from a hanger rod,
FIGURE 5 is a top plan view of yet another modified form of the present invention,
FIGURE 6 is a front elevation view of yet another modified form of the present invention designed for a larger capacity of work load, and
FIGURE 7 is a front elevation partly in cross section of an adapter used to fit a clothes dryer to the top of an oil stove of a different dimension.
Referring now to the drawing in detail the numeral 10 represents a clothes dryer according to the present invention which may be mounted upon the top of an oil stove 11.
As shown in FIGURE 1 of the drawing, the dryer includes a cabinet 10 which has a recess 12 on its underside into which the upper end 13 of the oil stove may be readily inserted. The clothes dryer includes a tumbler 14 which is rotatably driven by a motor, the tumbler being supported during rotational travel upon rollers 15. A lint catcher 16 is likewise provided, as shown in FIGURE 1. A front door 17 mounted upon a hinge 18 ice provides access for placement of clothes into the tumbler 14.
A hot air exhaust 19 on the rear side 20 of the cabinet can be upwardly, dovrmwardly or sidewardly for dispensing used and moisture laden hot air from the dryer cabinet.
In FIGURE 3 a modified clothes dryer 30 is shown to include a tumbler 31 within a cabinet 32, the cabinet having a door 33 pivo-table outwardly upon a hinge 34 and limited by a chain 35. The tumbler is provided with an outwardly swinging door 36 which is pivoted on a hinge 37 and is provided with a latch 38 at its other end receivable within a hasp 39 upon the tumbler.
In FIGURE 4 the clothes dryer 40 is likewise comprised of a cabinet 41 having a recess 42 on its underside for placement over the upper end of an oil stove and the dryer including a clothes hanger rod 43 upon which garments may be hung in a stationary manner instead of placed into a tumbler. The cabinet 41 is provided with a front door 44 hinged upon hinges 45 and provided with a door knob 46. Such dryer may be made of any height as is desired by the manufacturer for purpose of using for long or short garments. It is to be understood that such a clothes dryer may be likewise outfitted with trays, not shown, but which may be used for the purpose of warming food or other objects.
In FIGURE 5 a construction is shown wherein the cabinet 51 includes a tumbler 52 that is rotated upon a shaft 53 at each end and which includes a pulley 54 upon one of the shafts 53. The pulley 54 being driven by an endless belt 55 which is powered by a pulley 56 mounted on a motor shaft 57 of a motor 58. An outlet extension cord 59 provides means of delivering electric power to the motor for operating the tumbler.
FIGURE 6 shows a modified clothes dryer 60 wherein the cabinet 61 is sidewardly bulged outward so to provide means for an enlarged tumbler 62. Thus a relatively larger amount of clothes may be placed into the tumbler for purpose of drying.
In FIGURE 7 an adapter is illustrated, the lower portion 71 of which is adaptable for placement over the upper end, 13, of an oil stove and the upper portion thereof is adaptable for being placed within the recess 12 of a clothes dryer. Thus various dimensions of clothes dryers may be fitted upon oil stoves of relatively larger or smaller sizes.
Thus a novel clothes dryer has been shown which may utilize the heat from an oil stove for the purpose of drying clothes.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction it is understood such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as is defined by the appended claim.
I claim:
1. In a clothes dryer, a combination of a cabinet, said cabinet having a recess upon its under side for placement over the upper end of an oil stove, said cabinet containing means for receiving clothes therewithin for the purpose of drying, said drying means comprising a rotatable tumbler within said cabinet, a plurality of rollers mounted rotatably free within said cabinet, said rollers supporting said tumbler, said tumbler being mounted upon a shaft, said shaft having a pulley, an endless belt around said pulley and around a second pulley, said second pulley being mounted upon a motor shaft of a motor, said motor being electrically powered for the purpose of providing rotational movement to said tumbler, said cabinet being sidewardly, outwardly balanced to provide increased space for supporting an enlarged tumbler there- 3 within, said enlarged tumbler having means to hold a larger quantity of clothes, and said recess being formed by side Walls extending downwardly below a bottom wall of said cabinet.
