GEARING.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 333.826, dated January 5, 1886.

Application filed December 7, 1885. Serial No. 184,987. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, DAVID C. CAM]? and HENRY P. CAMP, citizens of the United States, residing at Gainesville, in the county of Hall and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Gearing; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part. of this specification.

This invention has relation to gearing for washing-machines, and the object is to simplify the machine and reduce the cost of manufacture of the same; and to these ends the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the several parts of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings the sameletters of reference indicate like parts of the invention.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of our invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly in section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the crank and driving-gear detached, and Fig. 4 isa perspective view of the machine with the cover removed.

A is the tank or frame of the machine proper, and it is provided with a semicircular rcmovable cover, 13.

O is a revolving drum provided with a bracket, D, having a shortjournal, and pinion E, the bracket, journal, and pinion being cast in one piece. A similar bracket and journal are secured to the opposite side of the drum, and upon these two journals the drum freely rotates.

F is a three-armed bracket secured to the case A, and it is provided with an integral stud, G, which forms a journal for the gearwheel H to rotate upon, so as to revolve the pinion E and drum 0.

I is a crank provided with a handle, K, cast integral with the gear-wheel H, and by means of which the drum is operated; and it will thus be seen that thedrum and pinion E can be lifted out of the case without interfering with the gear-wheel, and that the gear-wheel and crank can be removed from the case without disturbing the pinion and drum.

L is a water-reservoir provided with an inlet, m, into which the water is first poured. M is a cock or faucet communicating with the reservoir L and the lower or hot-water chamber, N, and O is a faucet to draw the water from the chamber P, in which the drum rotates, and R is a similar faucet to empty the hot-water chamber N.

The operation of the device is as follows: The water in the reservoir is allowed to run into the chamber N, where it is converted into steam, and passes up through the tubes n and 10 into the drum through the holes 0' and t. The drum is then rotated by the handle K, crank I, gear H, and pinion E.

Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

1. The case A, provided with the revolving drum 0, having pinion E, and the bracket F. having j ournal-stud G, in combination with the gear H and the integral handle I, as set forth.

2. The combination, with the integral gear H and crank I, journaled upon the stud G, secured to the case A, having chamber N and pipes at and p, of the pinion E, rigidly secured to the drum 0, having holes r and t, as set forth.
