(Cl. 128-261) This invention relates to an inserter and retainer for rectal suppositories and comprises a molded device into which is fitted a suppository and whereby to insert the suppository into the anal canal and to retain the suppository in the canal against expulsion and propulsion into the rectum during the melting or dissolving of the suppository during the treatment of hemorrhoids or other disturbances of the anal canal and rectal ampulla.

The object of the invention is to provide a device into which any rectal suppository of any manufacture and by any manufacturer can be placed. This whole entity then to be inserted manually into the anal canal using the aforementioned device instead of touching the medicated material with the fingers of the hand. The intent being for the suppository to now be long enough to reach into the rectal ampulla and deliver the desired medication in this area without moving forward into the rectum; the device preventing propulsion upward; the buttocks in apposition preventing expulsion; and to deliver medication in the anal canal; and to prevent the fingers of the hands from touching the anus itself.

The device comprises an elongated molded inserter having an arcuate shape that conforms basically to the area of the body adjacent to the anal canal and to have a snug fitment between the buttocks and with the device being provided with an upstanding cylindrical retainer for receiving the suppository.

Novel features of construction and operation of the device will be more clearly apparent during the course of the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings wherein has been illustrated the preferred form of the device and wherein like characters of reference are employed to denote like parts thoughout the several figures.

Referring specifically to the drawings and particularly to FIGURE 1, there has been illustrated a body 5 having an anal canal 6 opening between the buttocks and the anal canal is of recognized shape for receiving a medicated suppository 7 that extends upwardly to engage the Crypts of Morgagni, residing in the rectal ampulla.

Adapted to overlie the anal canal and to have fitment into the curvature of the area of the body, is an arcuate strip 8, having a post 9 molded integral with the strip for extending upwardly where it is provided with a recess 10, opening at the top of the post in a smoothed edge 11. The strip 8 and the post 9 are molded of any desirable material, such as rubber, plastic, or similar materials. The opposite edge of the strip 8 are rounded as shown at 12.

Adapted to have forceful entry into the recess 10, is a conventional suppository, indicated at 13. The suppository is of molded construction, having a wax-like base into which is embedded a medicament, as is customary. The suppository may be provided with a head 14 alice though suppositories of straight cylindrical form may be employed. The suppository 13 is forced downwardly into the cavity 10, and the smoothed edge of the post 11 con stitutes the base of the suppository to permit the full engagement of the suppository to the bottom of the recess 10.

Referring now to FIGURE 5, there has been provided a circular base 15, having a central post 16 similar to the post 9 and the use of this device is similar to that previously described.

In the use of the device, a molded suppository 13 is forced downwardly into the cavity 10 as shown particularly in FIGURE 3, supporting the suppository fitment into the anal canal and with the strip 8 engaging the area between the buttocks for maintaining the device against ejection. When the suppository has fully dissolved or melted, the device is removed and constitutes an ejector and retainer for subsequent use of suppositories. The device maintains the suppository into the anal canal and is held against ejection by the overlapping engagement of the flesh of the buttocks and cannot fall or move away from the body while the suppository is in use. The post 9 at its base is curved as indicated at 9 to merge into the strip 8 or the disk 15 and, when forced upwardly into engagement with the buttocks, securely maintains the suppository against ejectment. It will be apparent, that there has been provided a novel means for employing a suppository with respect to the human body and the anal canal and facilitates the entry of the suppository to a full engagement with the anal canal. The device is novel in construction, is cheap to manufacture, is strong, durable and effectively controls the application of a suppository with its contained medication to the anal canal and the rectal ampulla, the site of formation of internal hemorrhoids.

It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction shown, but that changes are contemplated as readily fall within the spirit of the invention as shall be determined bytthe scope of the subjoined claims.

I claim:

1. An ejector and retainer for suppositories comprising an elongated strip that is arcuate to conform to the curvature of the body of the user and with the strip intermediate its length being provided with an upstanding stem that is recessed at its top to forcibly receive a lower end of the suppository, the strip and the stem be ing molded integral and with the stem :at its upper end having a circumferential smoothed edge to forcibly cut into the suppository and to hold the suppository during its insertion into the anal canal, the stem with the suppository attached thereto adapted to partially enter the opening of the anal canal and to force the suppository upwardly to terminate into the Crypts of Morgagni, residing in the rectal ampulla.

The device according to claim 1 wherein the strip is arcuate upwardly to conform to the curvature of the area between the buttocks of the user and to be held against ejectment, the suppository being of a type that is medicated and meltable, the strip being extended in opposite directions from the stem and relatively narrow in width.

3. The structure according to claim 1 wherein the device comprises a molded disk having a central upstanding stem portion that is recessed at its top and with the marginal edges of the recesses being smoothed for easy and safe insertion.

4. The structure according to claim 1 wherein the strip and the stem are integrally molded from rubber.

5. The structure according to claim 1 wherein the strip is molded of plastic or any other synthetic material not injurious to the human body.

Claims

1. AN EJECTOR AND RETAINER FOR SUPPOSITORIES COMPRISING AN ELONGATED STRIP THAT IS ARCUATE TO CONFORM TO THE CURVATURE OF THE BODY OF THE USER AND WITH THE STRIP INTERMEDIATE ITS LENGTH BEING PROVIDED WITH AN UPSTANDING STEM THAT IS RECESSED AT ITS TOP TO FORCIBLY RECEIVE A LOWER END OF THE SUPPOSITORY THE STRIP AND THE STEM BEING MOLDED INTEGRAL AND WITH THE STEM AT ITS UPPER END HAVING A CIRCUMFERENTIAL SMOOTHED EDGE TO FORCIBLY CUT INTO THE SUPPOSITORY AND TO HOLD THE SUPPOSITORY DURING ITS INSERTION INTO THE ANAL CANAL, THE STEM WITH THE SUPPOSITROY ATTACHED THERETO ADAPTED TO PARTIALLY ENTER THE OPENING OF THE ANAL CANAL AND TO FORCE THE SUPPOSITORY UPWARDLY TO TERMINATE INTO THE CRYPTS OF MORGAGNI, RESIDING IN THE RECTAL AMPULLA.
