(No Model.)
E. M. GREER.
FOLDING AND ADJUSTABLE WINDOW BRACKET SHELF.
No. 333,007; Patented Dec. 22,1885.
PATENT ELIZA M. GREEK, OF STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA.
FOLDING 'AND ADJUSTABLE WINDOW-BRACKET SHELF.
SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 333,007, dated December 22, 1885.
Application filed September 10, 1885. Serial No. 176,665. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIZA M. GREEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding and Adj ustable Window-Bracket Shelves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in window-bracket shelves; and it consists of a frame adapted to be suspended from the window-casing by a front cross-bar, and by cords having hooks attached to their upper ends, the frame being provided with braces and with a back, and also having a platform to stand upon.
The object of my invention is principally to furnish an adjustable folding staging from which the windows in a building at different heights may be washed without removing them; also to provide an ornamental shelf for pots of flowers, 86C.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the entire shelf, showing my invention. Fig. 2 is a detached view of a slotted plate.
Let B B represent the two sections of the front cross-bar of the frame, united together by a slotted plate, G, secured to the sections of the cross-bar by the bolts d d.
B B are the corresponding sections of the rear cross-bar, united in the same manner as the sections B B.
A A represent the outside longitudinal bars, and A A the inside longitudinal bars bolted to the cross-bars. The back is composed of the outside bars, H H, and the inside bars, H H, all attached, respectively, by hinges J to the bars A A A A. A cross-bar, made in two sections, I 1, is bolted to bars H H, and is united together in the same manner as are the sections of the front and rear crossbars of the frame. Bracinglegs D are hinged to blocks D attached beneath bars Ain front of the outer ends of the rear bar-sections, B B for greater solidity. Cords E are attached at their respective ends to respective ends of bars H H and braces D D, and are rove through holes in the bars A in front of the forward edge of platform 0. Cords F, having hooks F, are inserted through holes in ends of the front crossbar. Similar cords, i, with hooks 6, having flat ends, are inserted through holes in the upper ends of the bars H ofthe back.
When it is desired to make use of my invention, the front bar-sections, B B, are inserted within the Window siding, and are placed upon and parallel with the sill, their outer ends holding against the sides of the siding. The slots G permit of the frame being adapted to different sizes of windows. The braces D are placed against the outside of the building, and maintain the rear end of the frame securely in position and the back from falling. The windows are then washed by the person standing upon the platform 0. The frame may be raised a short distance from the sill of the window by means of the ropes F, in which case the frame will be held in position by the hooks F engaging with the head-board of the casing, or with eyelets inserted in the wall for that purpose at proper positions. The back may be also more securely kept in position by means of the ropes i, their flat-end hooks i being placed upon the headboard of the casing, or in eyelets in the wall.
When not in use for washing windows, my invention is quite useful for purposes of airing and watering plants, the pots being placed upon the platform 0, and for airing and drying various small articles of wear, which may be hung upon the ropes and frame work. When not in service, it can be folded up and stored away in a very small space.
Stop-knots are formed in the cords G, above bars A, at such relative points as will maintain the frame perfectly level when in position for use.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters the cords 6, having fiat-end hooks i, and the 10 Patent, is platform 0.
The combination, substantially as described, In testimony whereof I. affix my signature in of the front cross-bar sections, 13 B, the rear presence of two Witnesses.
