Description

L E. THOMAS. Cooking Stove.
Patented Nov, 6,. 18.43;
JNO. E. THOMAS, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
GOOKING-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 3,330, dated novembere," 1843.
To all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, JOHN E..TIE[OMAS, of
Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves, which I denominate the Non-Radiating Summer and Winter Air-Tight Cooking-Stove and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, in whicht Figure 1 is an isometrical view. Fig. 2, is a vertical cross section. Fig. 3 longitudinal section.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing a stove having a diving flue on each side and combining therewith nonradiating substance on the outside, around the oven; part of the flue being ribbed to extend its radiating surface.
The outside of my stove is oblong the upper part being enlarged at the sides forming a cornice under which the sides are ribbed so as to appear likea row of columns and below these there is a plain broad base, the back of the stove is plain and at top projects a little in the center for the flue. The front has a fire door (a) at the upper part and below it the door (Z2) to the oven which can have a hearth (c) fastened toits upper edge; the top is pierced for boilers on each side and at the back the flange (cl) of the pipe rises. 1 3 1 The center of the upper part of the interior is the fire chamber (6) which extends from front to back. The fire expands and passes under the boilers and thence down each side of the stove betweenthe outside and over it then passes under the' bottom in front at (h) and entirely under the oven, is carried up the back flue, and mi through the pipe, along the top of the diving flues just under the boilers there is a slide damper (f) moved by a rod outside which when drawn back allows the draft a directpas sage down the flues and when pushed forward conducts the draft over it the whole width of the boiler holes and thence down the flues.
The base of this stove all around is lined with a nonconducting substance such as plaster of Paris. The ribbed part has a movable covering of the same material, that can be taken off, when heat is applied to cooking purposes at that point.
A damper (9) opens into the upright flue so as to pass the smoke, &c., 01f direct without going around the oven.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination of the diving flues having an opening into the lower horizontal flue at the front end, with the back flue, the heat passing along the whole length of the oven at the bottom and up behind, so as to surround it, constructed and arranged as above described.
2. I also claim the combination therewith of the dampers (f) in the manner and for the purpose before named for conducting the heat out more fully under the boilers.
