' UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
DAVID GESTETNER, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
TRANSFER 'OR R EPRODUCING PAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,890, dated December 22, 1885.
Application filed April 18, 1855. Serial No. 162,654. (No model.)
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID GEsTETNER, of London, England, have invented a new and Improved Transfer or Reproducing Paper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of myinvention is to provide new and improved paper to be used for reproducing letters, drawings, documents, &c., which paper is perforated by means of a well-known perforating device, such as a toothed wheel on the end of a stylus, or any other perforatinginstrument.
Theinvention consistsin asheet of bamboofiber paper on one surface of which a layer of wax or paraffine is fixed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a face viewof my improved pa per. Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional elevation of the same.
On the sheet A the crossed lines a are produced. and the ruled surface of the sheet is provided with a layer, B, of wax or paraffine. The bottom surface is not provided with such layer. The paper is perforated by means of any suitable perforating device to produce the desired design, drawing, letters, &c., the instrument being held above the waxed side of the sheet. The perforated sheet is placed on the sheet on which the design, letter, 850., is to be produced, and an inked roller is passed over the sheet A, and the ink passes through the aperture or perforations upon the sheet below the perforated sheet. In casea mistake has been made, the perforations can be closed by rubbing the wax with the thumb-nail or an instrument. The paper is not impregnated, but the layer of wax or paraffine is fixed on one surface. v
The paper used is Japanese paper which is made from bamboo fiber.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a sheet of transfer-paper consisting of a sheet of bamboo-fiber paper on one surface of which a layer of wax or paraffine is fixed, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, a cross-ruled sheet of bamboo fiber paper on one surface of which a layer of wax or paraffine 5 is fixed, substantially as herein shown and described.
D AVID GESTETNER.
