  • Garbage container structure as claimed in claim 3 comprising carriage drive means for displacing the carriage controlled in dependence on the degree to which the garbage container supported on the carriage is filled.
  • Garbage container structure as claimed in claim 5 wherein said drive means comprises a piston-cylinder mechanism adapted to be connected to a source of pressure fluid, a valve device controlling fluid flow to said piston-cylinder mechanism and a photocell device disposed at the upper edge of the first said container for operating said valve device.
  • Garbage container structure as claimed in claim 6 comprising a delay device between the photocell device and the valve device to prevent the piston-cylinder mechanism from being operated by the occurrence of-actuating impulses of short duration.
  • Garbage container structure as claimed in claim 4 comprising two-armed levers supporting said pins in pairs and pivotally mounted on the carriage, a strut with a pair of legs accommodating each lever such that by imparting a swinging movement to the levers the rings can be disengaged from the pins by abutment against the legs of the struts as the levers are swung to positions in which the pins are disposed below the upper plane of the struts.

No. 384,178 8 Claims. (Cl. 248-98) This invention relates to improvements in garbage container construction as operable with garbage chutes.
It often happens in connection with garbage chutes that the garbage receiving bin is excessively filled before emptying is performed, the garbage thus accumulating in the garbage chute conduit. Arrangements have previously been proposed enabling empty bins to be substituted for filled ones, the bins being shiftable on an annular track below the discharge opening of the garbage chute or otherwise hingedly insertable. Arrangements of this type are particularly bulky and difficult to accommodate in the available space of finished buildings. It is an object of the present invention to solve this problem in part by using so-called garbage bags made from a collapsible material.
An arrangement according to the present invention is substantially characterized by a carriage, sled or the like adapted to be shifted from a position below a garbage chute or the like and carrying a garbage container, one or more additional garbage containers being arranged in connection with the carriage between said carriage and a holding device provided adjacent the garbage chute so that when the carriage is displaced the additional container connected to the carriage will unfold below the garbage chute.
The invention will be explained in greater detail by reference to the enclosed drawings in which:
FIG. 1 shows in perspective view the device according to the invention in a working position;
FIG. 2 shows in perspective view the device in another working position; and
FIGS. 3 and 4 show details of the attachment means for the garbage containers of the device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
The device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a carriage 1, supporting a garbage container 2 in the form of a bag. The carriage is adapted to be displaced on rails 3 provided on the floor. At its upper corners the garbage container is provided with rings 4, placed around pins 5 carried by a frame structure 6 of the carriage 1 as will be described in greater detail by reference to FIGS. 3 and 4. On the end wall as seen in the direction of carriage displacement there is provided a frame 7 which carries similar pins 5 adapted to support another bag 8 which is suspended between the last-named pins 5 and adjacent pins provided on the carriage 1. When carriage 1 is displaced in a direction away from frame 7 bag 8 will unfold. The arrangement is adapted to be mounted below a garbage chute 9. In FIG. 1 the carriage is shown in its inserted position in which bag 8 is collapsed between the carriage and the adjacent end wall. In this position of the carriage, bag 2 is open below the garbage ch-ute 9.
The carriage is adapted to be operated by a pistoncyl-inder mechanism 10 provided on the floor between the rails 3. A pipe 11 connects this mechanism to a magnet valve 12 which in turn is connected by a pipe 13 to the water supply system. The magnet valve is electrically controlled by means of a photocell device 14 receiving its operating light from a source 15.
It is assumed that the container 2 has been filled with garbage 16 to such an extent that the light beam between the source and the photocell device is interrupted.
Thereby the magnet valve 12 is actuated to admit water through pipe 11 to actuate piston-cylinder mechanism 10 for displacing the carriage to the position shown in FIG. 2. By the removal of container 2 the light beam to the photocell is restored and the magnet valve 12 is actuated to closed position. Preferably means (not shown) are provided acting to discharge the liquid from cylinder 10 as son as the replacement of a fresh container 2 has been performed. Prior to this action however, the container 8 is ready to receive garbage. It is to be noted that the photocell device 14 must not operate the magnet valve upon accidental interruption of the light beam when garbages fall through the chute into the container 2. For this purpose a reaction delaying device 17 is arranged in series with the control circuit of the magnet valve 12, said delaying device preventing the piston-cylinder mechanism from being actuated by impulses of short duration.
For the purpose of releasing the rings 4 from the pins 5 both frame structure 6 and the frame 7, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, are provided with a releasing device shown in FIGS. 3 and 4. This device comprises legs 18, 19 formed in the upper part of structure 6, a lever 20 being swingably supported in its central portion on a pin 21, between said legs. The lever 20 carries bag-supporting pins 5', 5" and a handle portion 22. When the handle 22 is lowered as shown in FIG. 3 ring 4 will come into contact with legs 18, 19 and upon continued lowering of handle 22 the ring will become disengaged from pin 5' and may be removed laterally. Thereafter the handle 22 is lifted whereby the other ring will come into contact with legs 18, 19 and, upon continued lifting of the handle, will become disengaged from pin 5". This arrangement considerably facilitates removal of bags filled with garbage from the pins.
It will be appreciated that the invention is not restricted to the embodiment shown. For example, it is not necessary that the carriage is automatically displaced by means of the piston-cylinder and photocell devices or the like as shown, a mere manual displacement being within the scope of the invention. The arrangement may be carried out wherein the carriage is supported on an inclined surface. In such case when the bag on the carriage is filled, a locking arrangement is released so that the carriage is moved out by gravity and a further bag is unfolded under the garbage chute. The arrangement shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 may be omitted, if desired, without departure from the spirit of the invention. Of course the present invention may be applied within other technical fields other than that above mentioned. The arrangement may be applied for example for filling bags with meal and the like.
What I claim is:
1. Container construction comprising a displaceable carriage, a container supported onsaid carriage, said carriage being movable from a first operative position for the container to a second inoperative position for the container, a second container, and frame means having a stationary position as said carriage is: moved between said first and second postions, said container being supported by the carriage and the frame means for being in folded inoperative position with said carriage in its first position and being unfolded to an operative position with the carriage in said second position.
2. Container construction as claimed in claim 1 corn prising means removably connecting the containers with the carriage.
3. Garbage container structure for a garbage chute comprising a carriage supported for displacement from a position below the garbage chute, a container carried by said carriage, an additional garbage container which is collapsible, said additional container having one side connected to said carriage and an opposite side held in fixed relation relative to the carriage at a location adjacent the garbage chute so that when the carriage is displaced, the additional container connected to the carriage will unfold below the garbage chute.
4. Garbage container structure as claimed in claim 3 comprising rings on the garbage containers at the upper edges thereof, a holding device for supporting said opposite side of the additional container, pins carried by both the carriage and the holding device, said one side of said additional container being taken along by the respective pins on the carriage upon displacement of the carria-ge to unfold the said container below the garbage chute.
5. Garbage container structure as claimed in claim 3 comprising carriage drive means for displacing the carriage controlled in dependence on the degree to which the garbage container supported on the carriage is filled.

Garbage container structure as claimed in claim 5 wherein said drive means comprises a piston-cylinder mechanism adapted to be connected to a source of pressure fluid, a valve device controlling fluid flow to said piston-cylinder mechanism and a photocell device disposed at the upper edge of the first said container for operating said valve device.
7. Garbage container structure as claimed in claim 6 comprising a delay device between the photocell device and the valve device to prevent the piston-cylinder mechanism from being operated by the occurrence of-actuating impulses of short duration.
8. Garbage container structure as claimed in claim 4 comprising two-armed levers supporting said pins in pairs and pivotally mounted on the carriage, a strut with a pair of legs accommodating each lever such that by imparting a swinging movement to the levers the rings can be disengaged from the pins by abutment against the legs of the struts as the levers are swung to positions in which the pins are disposed below the upper plane of the struts.

1. CONTAINER CONSTRUCTION COMPRISING A DISPLACEABLE CARRIAGE, A CONTAINER SUPPORTED ON SAID CARRIAGE, SAID CARRIAGE BEING MOVABLE FROM A FIRST OPERATIVE POSITION FOR THE CONTAINER TO A SECOND INOPERATIVE POSITION FOR THE CONTAINER, A SECOND CONTAINER, AND FRAME MEANS HAVING A STATIONARY POSITION AS SAID CARRIAGE IS MOVED BETWEEN SAID FIRST AND SECOND POSITIONS, SAID CONTAINER BEING SUPPORTED BY THE CARRIAGE AND THE FRAME MEANS FOR BEING IN
