No. 350,352 9 Claims. (Cl. 139-122) This invention relates to a loom and especially the drive for the weft carrier between two drive wheels.
The weft carrier is driven by means of two drive wheels and rotating levers which penetrate grooves in blocks on the weft carrier, press against the leading surfaces tbof said grooves and thus propel the weft carrier forward.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings, in which:

FIGS. 4 and 5 are front and plan views respectively of the weft carrier.
Referring to the drawings, a flexible elongated Weft darrier 1 is carried along by a drive wheel 2 by projections 2a. This weft carrier is equipped with a thread catcher 1b of usual design for instance a thread catcher of the type disclosed in the US. Patent 2,493,515 granted to V. Werner et al. on January 3, 1950. This thread catcher catches the weft thread on one side of the shed carrying it therethrough and releasing it on the other side thereof. On leaving the drive wheel 2 the Weft carrier passes through a guide means 3 which consists of a plurality of parallel pairs of guide members. The weft carrier moves straight along aligned pairs of grooves 3a thereof which are engaged by a plate In. On its underside the weft carrier 1 is provided with small blocks 4 having grooves 4a. The blocks 4 are slanted at a predetermined angle, for example 45, to the longitudinal axis of a shaft 7 and of guide means 3, and the blocks 4 are all disposed at the same angle to the longitudinal axis of a shaft 7 and parallel to each other.
Two-arm rotating levers 5 pass continuously between the individual pairs of guide members of the guide means 3, enter the grooves 4a, and press against the slanted leading surfaces 4b of the grooves 4a, thus imparting a forward motion to the weft carrier 1. When one rot-ating lever arm 5 has left a groove 4a, after rotating through 180", the other arm enters the grid and passes through the following groove.
The levers 5 are protected by a casing 6 (FIG. 3) which is open only in theregion of guide means 3. The various levers 5 are so arranged on a shaft 7 to which they are secured, th-at,. as the shaft 7 rotates, they pass into the guide means 3 and enter in succession one after the other the grooves 4a in the blocks 4. The circular shape of casing 6 is best seen in FIG. 2. A segment of the casing is omitted, forming an opening through which the ends of arms 5 project into grooves 4a. 7
When the machine is at rest, some of the rotating arms always remain in grooves 4a of the blocks 4, pressing against the rear wall of the groove and providing a braking effect.
The upper and lower shafts 7 are driven by meshing gears 8a, 8b from shaft 8, gears 9 and a shaft 10 driven by an electric motor (not shown) Shafts 11 which drive the wheels 2 are also driven from the shaft 8 by a pair of meshing gears 80.
3,263,797 Patented August 2, 1966 The weft thread is inserted into the weft carrier 1 when the same is still engaged by wheel 2 on the right side of FIG. 1. A spring-loaded clamp on the weft carrier catches the weft thread and pulls it through the shed shown in FIG. 3. The clamp is engaged and opened when carrier 1 has passed through the shed and is engaged and transported by the projections 2a of the left wheel 2.
What we claim is:
1. Weft carrier drive for a loom, comprising, in combination, a plurality of rotary :drive members rotatable about an axis and spaced from each other along the same, each drive member being movable along a circular path; guide means extending parallel to said axis; and a flexible elongated weft carrier guided along said guide means for inserting a weft into a Warp shed formed by the loom, said weft carrier having a plurality of abutment faces spaced in the direction of said axis and slanted to the same, said abutment faces being located in the paths of movement of said rotary drive members and arranged and constructed so that said slanted abutment faces are engaged in succession by said drive members whereby said weft carrier is driven along said guide means.
2. Weft carrier drive for a loom, comprising, in combination, a plurality of rotary drive members rotatable about an axis and spaced from each other along the same, each drive member being movable along a circular path; guide means extending parallel to said axis; and a weft carrier including a plate guided along said guide means for inserting a weft into a warp shed formed by the loom, said weft carrier having a plurality of blocks secured to said plate, each block being formed with a groove having a pair of abutment faces, said pairs of abutment faces being spaced in the direction of said axis and slanted to the same, said grooves and said abutment faces being located in the paths of movement of said rotary drive members and arranged and constructed so that said slanted abutment faces are engaged in succession by said drive members whereby said weft carrier is driven along said guide means.

Weft carrier drive for a loom, comprising, in combination, a plurality of rotary drive members rotatable about an axis and spaced from each other along the same, each drive member being movable valong a circular path; guide means extending parallel to said axis; and a flexible elongated weft carrier guided along said guide means for inserting a weft into a warp shed formed by the loom, said weft carrier having a plurality of parallel abutment faces spaced in the direction of said axis and slanted to the same, said abutment faces being located in the paths of movement of said rotary drive members and arranged and constructed so that said slanted abutment faces are engaged in succession by said drive members whereby said weft carrier is driven along said guide means.

Weft carrier drive for a loom, comprising, in combination, a plurality of rotary drive members rotatable about an axis and spaced from each other along the same, each drive member being movable along a circular path; guide means extending parallel to said axis; and a weft carrier including a plate guided along said guide means for inserting a weft into a warp shed formed by the loom, said wet carrier having a plurality of blocks secured to said plate, each block being formed with a groove having a pair of parallel abutment faces, said pairs of parallel abutment faces being spaced in the direction of said axis and slanted to the same, said grooves and said abutment faces being located in the paths of movement of said rotary drive members and arranged and constructed so that said slanted abutment faces are engaged in succession by said drive members whereby said weft carrier is driven along said guide means.
5. Weft carrier drive for a loomfii comprising, in comprising, in combination, a plurality of rotary drive members rotatable about an axis and spaced from each other along the same, each drive member being movable along a circular path, each drive member having two arms angularly spaced 180 degrees and having the same radial length so that each pair of arms is movable along a circular path located in a plane perpendicular to said axis; guide means extending parallel to said axis; and a weft carrier guided along said guide means for inserting a weft into a warp shed formed by the loom, said weft carrier having a plurality of abutment faces spaced in the direction of said axis and slanted to the same, said abutment faces being located in the paths of movement of said arms and arranged and constructed so that said slanted abutment faces are engaged in succession by said arms whereby said weft carrier is driven along said guide means.
6. Weft carrier drive for a loom, comprising, in combination, a plurality of rotary drive members rotatable about an axis and spaced from each other along the same, each drive member being movable along a circular path, each drive member having two arms angularly spaced 180 degrees and having the same radial length so that each pair of arms is movable along a circular path located in a plane perpendicular to said axis; a stationary casing enveloping each drive member, each casing having a peripheral opening through which the end portions of said arms project during rotation; guide means extending parallel to said axis in the region of said openings of said casings; and a weft carrier guided along said guide means for inserting a weft into a warp shed formed by the loom, said weft carrier having a plurality of abutment faces spaced in the direction of said axis and slanted to the same, said abutment faces being located in the paths of movement of said end portions of said arms and arranged and constructed so that said slanted abutment faces are engaged in succession by an end portion of one of said arms whereby said weft carrier is driven along said guide means.
7. Weft carrier drive for a loom, comprising, in combination, a plurality of rotary drive members rotatable about an axis and spaced from each other along the same, each drive member being movable along a circular path, each drive member having two arms angularly spaced 180 degrees and having the same radial length so that each pair of arms is movable along a circular path located in a plane perpendicular to said axis; guide means extending parallel to said axis; and a weft carrier including a plate guided along said guide means for inserting a weft into a warp shed formed by the loom, said weft carrier having a plurality of blocks secured to said plate, each block being formed with a groove having a pair of abutment faces, said pairs of abutment faces being spaced in the direction of said axis and slanted to the same, said grooves and said abutment faces being located in the paths of movement of said arms and arranged and constructed so that said slanted abutment faces are engaged in succession by said arms whereby said weft carrier is driven along said guide means.
8. Weft carrier drive for a loom, comprising, in combination, a plurality of rotary drive members rotatable about an axis and spaced from each other along the same, each drive member being movable along a circular path, each drive member having two arms angularly spaced degrees and having the same radial length so that each pair of arms is movable along a circular path located in a plane perpendicular to said axis; a stationary casing enveloping each drive member, each casing having a pcripheral opening through which the end portions of said arms project during rotation; guide means extending parallel to said axis in the region of said openings of said casings; and a weft carrier including a plate guided along said guide means for inserting a weft into a warp shed formed by the loom, said Weft carrier having a plurality of blocks secured to said plate, each block being formed with a groove having a pair of parallel abutment faces, said pairs of parallel abutment faces being spaced in the direction of said axis and slanted to the same, said grooves and said abutment faces being located in the paths of movement of said end portions of said arms and arranged and constructed so that said slanted abutment faces are engaged in succession by an end portion of one of said arms whereby said weft carrier is driven along said guide means.

Weft carrier drive for a loom, comprising, in combination, a plurality of rotary drive members rotatable about an axis and spaced from each other along the same, each drive member being movable along a circular path; guide means extending parallel to said axis; a pair of driven transporting wheels, each wheel disposed at one end of said guide means and having projections on the periphery thereof; and a weft carrier being transported by said projections of one of said wheels onto one end of said guide means, and transported by the projections of the other wheel away from the other end of said guide means, and being guided along said guide means for.

Claims (1)
1. WEFT CARRIER DRIVE FOR A LOOM, COMPRISING, IN COMBINATION, A PLURALITY OF ROTARY DRIVE MEMBERS ROTATABLE ABOUT AN AXIS AND SPACED FROM EACH OTHER ALONG THE SAME, EACH DRIVE MEMBER BEING MOVABLE A CIRCULAR PATH; GUIDE MEANS EXTENDING PARALLEL TO SAID AXIS; AND A FLEXIBLE ELONGATED WEFT CARRIER GUIDED ALONG SAID GUIDE MEANS FOR INSERTING A WEFT INTO A WARP SHED FORMED BY THE LOOM, SAID WEFT CARRIER HAVING A PLURALITY OF ABUTMENT FACES SPACED IN THE DIRECTION OF SAID AXIS AND SLANTED TO THE SAME, SAID ABUTMENT FACES BEING LOCATED IN THE PATHS OF MOVEMENT OF SAID ROTARY DRIVE MEMBERS AND ARRANGED
