"ILLIAM KNOVLES, OF ROOKVILLE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND GARRETT L. TEN BROOK, OF SAME PLACE.
KITCHEN-SAFE AND FLOUR-CH EST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.325,4l6, dated September 1, 1885.
(N0 model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM KNoWLEs, of Rockville, in the county of Parke and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Safes and Flour-Chests, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved kitchen-safe.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction and ar "angement of parts,as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved kitchcnsafe and flourchest on the line .2 c, Fig. 3. Fig. 2 is a crosssectional elevation of the same on the line a; a", Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same on the line 3 3 Fig. 1.
The kitchen-safeA has a wire'netting back, A, near its bottom, and the doors A having wirenetting panels, in its front, near the bottom.
Above the doors A a door, B, extending from end to end of the safe, is hinged to the front of the same to swing downward, and behind the same grooved cleats O are secured to the inner surfaces of the sides of the case, and in the same rails D slide, which have pins Fl projecting from the outer sides, at or near the iniddles of said rails.
A. dough-hoard, 1*, having an upwardlyprojecting llange, F, at its inner or back edge, arranged to slide on the rails D, and has downwardlyprojecting pins G, which are behind the pins E, the rails D having upwardly-projecting lugs D at the inner i ends, behind the inner edge of the kneading board F.
A cup or trough, H, for coniainirg soda, baking-powder, &c., is hung on the flange F of the board F. Latches J are pivoted to cleats on the inner surfaces of the sides of the safe, and have notches J in their swinging ends.
Two flour-chests, K, are arranged above the dough-board, and have inclined bottoms L, in the lower. part of each of which a pocket, M, is formed, having a concave screen-bottom, N, in which a segmental brush or wiper, O, rests, which is secured to a lever, P, pivoted to the inner side of the front of the chest, and extends upward.
Each chest has a hinged lid. In the flat top of one chest a box, Q, for bread is held, and in the other chest a box, R, for seasoning materials-such as salt, &c.is held. Behind the said boxes ventilating-screens S are secured in openings in the back of the chests.
A shelf, T, is arranged on the lower part of the safe.
By swinging the lever P the Hour is sifted through the screen-bottoms N upon the kneading-board F, or a vessel placed thereon. \Vhen the said board is pulled out, its pins 7 G strike the pins E- on the rails D and pull out-ward the said rails. When the boardF is pulled out,t.he latches J automatically drop behind it and lock the said board in place. hen the board F is to be pushed back, the latches J are raised and the board pushed inward, and as the back edge of the board F strikes the lug l) the rails 13 are pushed in ward.
I am aware that a meal-bin provided with r a rotating reel and a flexible sieve below the same is old; and I am also aware that drawers have been held in horizontal positions when pulled out by means of sliding plates with which. studs on the drawers en- 8 gage; and I therefore do not clainrsuoh inventions.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with a flounchest having an inclined bottom, of a concave piece of wire-netting in the bottom, a segmental brush or wiper on ,the netting, and a pivoted having lugs D on the rear ends, the sliding board F 011 the rails D, and of the pins E 10 and G, substantially as herein shown and described.
ILLTAM. KNOVLES.
