Filed Apr. 3, 1963, Ser. No. 270,280 1 Claim. (Cl. 35-16) This invention relatesto a new andoriginal process for making artistic arrangement of flowers, plants, foliage, fruits and vegetables.

These arrangements may be made by relatively unskilled persons by use of the devices disclosed herein. This invention encompasses the use of these items in natural, artificial, or dried form.

-It is an object of this invention to provide a plurality of patterns, which, when folded and set up according to directions, make it easy for the user to assemble and arrange the flowers or plants. This invention is characterized by paper which may be disposed in two opposing planes. The main part is a vertical plane .with an elevational view of all items in the arrangement. The secondary part is an adjoining horizontal plane with full plan view of a base with location numbers for stems and a diagram of flowers showing how far the stems extend beyond the base. The activity form or pattern is designed with a fold the same height as a base or container which slips under the horizontal pattern. This permits using numbered locations as guides for inserting stems into base.

The term base used in connection with this invention may be a block of porous material, a bowl, dish, vase, or box.

A good flower arrangement must have proportion, balance, color contrast, texture and harmony. These prob lems have all been solved for the customer by the device and method disclosed herein.

Another object of this invention is to bring to the public a simple, easy to follow process in the form of keyed and numbered patterns for a wide variety of flower arrangements. A large majority of people do not possess the talents or time necessary to master the fine points of the art of flower arranging. This simplified method will enable all persons to enjoy this pleasant and useful hobby and the cost per arrangement will be very nominal. This statement is verified by the fact that customers are buying flowers now. The only additional cost would be the price of the pattern, not the sale of patterns as a stock in trade.

A further object of the invention is to provide a kit for making floral arrangements which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and simple and eflicient to use.

FIG. 1 represents a plurality of sheets upon which full elevational and full plan views of the subject matter are shown. These views may be outlined in form, as shown, or reproductions of photographs, full size, or geometric lines of similar size and shape;

FIG. 2 shows a pattern folded according to directions making a basic vertical and horizontal activiy form;

FIG. 3 is a view of a pattern set in position to begin making the arrangement;

FIG. 4 depicts the three dimensional results of a complete flower arrangement of pattern and subject matter shown in FIG. 3;

FIG. 5 is a view similar to FIG. 1 of another embodiment of the invention;

FIG. 6 is a view of the horizontal sheets to be used to make the arrangements shown in FIG. 8;

FIG. 7 shows an isometric view of one of the sheets shown in FIG. 6 with a base block supported thereunder;

FIG. 8 shows an arrangement made from the plants shown in FIG. 9;

FIG. 9 shows a view of the group of plants which would be placed in the arrangement of FIG. 6 and 7;

FIG. 10 shows a view of the group of plants which could be placed in the arrangement of FIG. 11; and

FIG. 11 shows one completed arrangement made from the plants shown in FIG. 10.

Now with more particular reference to the drawings, sheets 21 of paper, plastic, or the like shown in FIG. 1 have the outline of figures of flowers 22 on the upper portion thereof. Each sheet is made to fold up along a line 32 and downwardly and outwardly along a line 37 to form a vertical sheet portion 30 and a horizontal sheet portion 31. The horizontal sheet portion has a central square, area having numerals thereon which is adapted to be supported over a table surface or a base 40. The top portion of the vertical sheet .portion 30 has numerals 25 thereon which can be cut out by suitable scissors 41 or the like and the entire top portion, including sections 38, can be removed. The numbers on the portion of the sheet 31 overlying the base block 24 can be cut out and placed on flowers as temporary identification therefor. These flowers are shown supported on the base 40.

The sheet 30 which forms the vertical plane or vertical sheet when the pattern is folded is shown in FIG. 2. The sheets are folded along the lines 32 and 37 with a space 33 therebetween which forms a vertical area between the horizontal sheet and the vertical sheet 20 and provides a space for the block 24 to be received in a cut-out 50 in the block 24.

When it is desired to utilize the kit shown herein, the package containing the various components shown is opened and the base block 24 is supported on a table surface such as 40. The pattern is then folded up along the lines 32 and out along the line 37. The numerals 25 are cut out and placed on the stems of the flowers on the base 40, where they have been laid temporarily.

The stems are then disposed in the base block in the numbers corresponding to their numbers to form an arrangement such as shown in FIGS. 2 and 4.

In the embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 5, 10, and 11, numerals are shown cut out of a front sheet 121 and placed on the flowers shown in FIG. 10 to temporarily identify the flowers prior to completing the arrangement shown in FIG. 10. The flowers are then placed in the corresponding openings in a base block 124 corresponding to their numbers on the flowers to form an arrangement such as shown in FIG. 11 or other arrangement, depending upon the type of kit provided.

To carry out this process, the kit of flowers is first opened. Then the base block 124 is placed in front of the sheet 121, the sheet 121 being placed in a vertical position. The vertical sheet can be taped to a wall by means of tape such as shown in FIG. 3. The flowers can then be sorted and grouped and the numerals cut out of the top of the sheet can be taped to the corresponding flowers. The stems are then held up against the vertical sheet and shaped and then inserted in the base block until the entire arrangement has been completed in the form shown on the sheet 121 with the flowers having the appropriate numerals supported in front of the part of the picture showing the particular flower on the sheet 121.

In the embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 6 to 9 inclusive, a horizontal sheet 131 is shown having a top view of the arrangement shown in FIG. 8 thereon. Numerals 225 are cut out and put on the stems of the flowers shown in FIG. 9 for temporary identification. The flowers are then placed in the opening in a base block 124' set under the horizontal sheet in the relation shown in FIG. 7.

The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but it is understood that the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the inven tion which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claim.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

A kit for assembling a floral arrangement comprising a sheet having a first sheet portion and a second sheet portion,

said sheet being adapted to be folded along a line between said first sheet portion and said second sheet portion so that said first sheet portion is disposed at right angles to said second sheet portion, said first sheet portion having a front view diagram of the arrangement of plants thereon made up of numbered plants and forming, a background for said arrangement and adapted to be placed in a vertical plane,

said second sheet portion having a top view diagram of said arrangement of plants thereon made up of plants each numbered to correspond with the numbers on said front view adapted to be placed in a horizontal plane and forming a background for said arrangement,

each plant in each of said diagrams being numbered with a number on each of said sheet portions,

a base member comprising a block having holes thereand a plurality of plants having stems,

each said stem being numbered corresponding to a said number on said sheet portion,

said second sheet portion having numbered holes each number on a said hole corresponding to one of said first mentioned numbers on said sheet portions,

each said plant stem being adapted to be inserted in a said hole in said second sheet portion having a number corresponding to the number of the said plant and into a said hole in said block.
