COOKlNG-UTENSIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,532, dated July 21, 1885.
Application filed September 22, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom zt may concern:
Be itknown that we, RICHARD H. Evnnn'rr and ELIZA A. EVERETT, citizens of the United States, residing at Vestal Centre, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have in vented a new and useful Improvement in CookingUtensils, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Our invention relates to cooking-utensils; and it has for its object to provide a device of this character adapted for use as a steamer, and with means whereby steam may be carried to the oven when bread, meats, or other articles I5 are being baked, in order that the said articles may be kept moist in a slight degree, and thus prevent them from becoming hardened.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cookingutensil for the purposes described which shall be cheap and simple in its construction and efficient and effectivein its operation.
lVith these ends in view the invention consists in the improved construction of steamer, in the means for conveying steam to the oven, and in the details of construction'and combinations ofthe various parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

cordance with my invention, showing the same applied to a stove. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the steamer.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, A represents the stove, which is of any ordinary or well-known construction.
B represents the oven of the stove, and C 4o designates a boiler. Near the lower end of this boiler is provided an escape-coek or faucet D, while said boiler is provided with an opening near its upper end.
E represents a jointed pipe, which is fitted in the hole or opening in the boiler at one end,
its other end extendingdownwardly and entering` a hole in the wall of the oven. It will thus be seen that as steam is generated it will pass from the boiler through the pipe E into 5o the oven and thus moisten the air; Ve have provided a cut-off, G, near the upper end of the pipe E, so that when the oven is not in use the steam may be shut off from that point. This cock G may be of any ordinary or wellknown construction.
H represents the steamer', which iifs in the top of the boiler C, and is supported by an annular flanged, which rests on the top ofthe said boiler. The bottom of the' steamer has raised portions b, having each an opening in their top, said raised portions being of substantially a truncated cone shape. It will be seen that by having these raised portions that the water of condensation cannot pass back into the boiler, as it will collect between the raised portions b. By this arrangement a number of advantages are obtained; but more particularly preventing the water in the boiler from becoming impregnated with odor from the articles being cookedin the steamer. Thus it will be seen that the steam that is admitted to the oven is perfectly pure and does not impart any taste or oder to the articles therein contained.

`When the steamer is notin use, the cover of the same may be removed 'therefrom and used upon the boiler.
The devices above described are simple in their construction, may be supplied at a slight cost, and are thoroughly efficient.
Having fully described our invention,what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
boiler, the steamer having an annular flange, a, the raised portions b, havingv holes or openings in their upper ends, and a pipe leading from said boiler, whereby it may be applied to the oven of a stove and connect therewith, substantially as set forth.
