To all whom, it may concern.-
Beit known that I, JULns V. GHARPAN- TIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the Parish of Orleans a'nd State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calculators, of which the following is a description.
This invention relates to that class of devices which serve to facilitate computations of time in counting-room and office work. Heretofore it has been common to calculate the date at which notes, 85o., come due, by a computation, in which it is necessary to consider the number of days in each month in question. For instance,in computing the date of maturity of a note drawn to sixty days from January 16, you havel to consider the number of days in January and in February.
rlhe object of this invention is to provide a calculator which shall show at a glance the date of maturity of any note, draft, acceptance, Ste.
To this end the invention consists in a series of tabulated cards, arotary slotted screen, and a box therefor, constructed and combined, as hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof.
A represents a box having holes B, in which two rods, O, are journaled to revolve as rollers.
D is a screen in the form of a band, tted closely around the rollers C, and provided with a metallic cross-rod, E, to serve as a handle by which the screen may be raised or lowered.
F represents one of a series of cards, of which I provide thirteen, one for each of the twelve months, and an additional one for February in leap-years. Each of these cards contains a table having as many horizontal lines as there are days in that month, and as many vertical lines or columns as may be required to give the table sufficient range. may be inserted behind the front half of the screen. To admit the card there is a slit, G, in the edge of the box in a plane tangent to the front sides of the rollers C. Through this slit the cards may be inserted and removed. H represents a receptacle in the box to the rear of the screen in which the cards not in use may be kept.

NVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination of the box A, having the holes B, the two rollers C journaled in the said holes, the screen D, mounted as a belt on the said rollers, and having the transverse aperture J spaced along its edge, and the spaces marked indicating different units of time, and the tabulated cards F, spaced to corw respond with the spaces on the screen D, substantially as shown'and described.
2. The combination ofthe box A, having the holes Bin its side edges, and the slit G in the edge in a plane tangent to the front sides of the said rollers, the screen D, fitted around the rollers, and the tabulated cards F, of a length to be held between the screen and rollers, substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination of the box A. the rollers C, journaled therein, the screen D, mounted as a belt on the rollers and having the transverse aperture J, and the cards F, placed behind the screen, each card having dates marked in columns and horizontal lines on it, and the screen marked at the edge of the said aperture in column with the dates 1l on the cards, the markings on the screen and on the card behind it bearing an arbitrary ratio to each other, substantially as shown and described, whereby any number on the screen being added to a date in the left-hand column of the card, the sum of the addition is indicated on the card on the same horizontal line Aand in the column of the added number on the screen.
