One of the objetcs of this invention is to provide a liner which is adapted to be positioned on the wire rack of an oven for the purpose of protecting the wire rack from greases and/or other drippings which are normally deposited on the rack.

Another object of this invention is to provide a liner which is provided with means for catching the drippings and preventing same from spattering or otherwise soiling the interior of the oven. With this invention the liner is positioned on the conventional oven rack so that the food product to be baked or cooked is placed on the liner, and any drippings from the food product will be deposited on the liner instead of on the wire rack so that upon removal of the liner the rack and the interior of the oven will be clean. This eliminates the cleaning of deposited drippings from the food product which normally adheres to the interior of the oven.

Another object of this invention is to provide a liner or pan of the foregoing characteristics which has means for retaining its position on the rack and is also provided with means for the passage of air to allow the air currents to circulate in and around through the liner.

Another object of this invention is to provide a structure of the foregoing character in which all the grease and other drippings are retained on the liner and in which the liner is formed of an aluminum foil of a gauge sufficient to maintain the required strength but which is made inexpensively so that it may be disposed of after a single use. It may, however, also be repeatedly reused.

Other objects will become apparent as this description progresses.

The liner, designated generally by the numeral 10, is adapted to be supported on a wire frame rack, generally indicated at 12, supported in the interior of the oven 14. The wire rack 12 is the conventional structure found in ovens in which the rack has the usual wire bordered member 16 with spaced wires 18 extending therebetween. The spaced wires 18 extend parallel with the sides of the oven, that is, the spaced wire members 18 extend transversely of the length of the oven and run from front to back. The wire rack is supported in a conventional manner in the oven and is removable. Normally a plurality of such wire racks are supported in an oven.

The liner is of rectangular shape and is formed of a metallic foil rolled from metal having good heat re flecting surfaces and which can be produced at a low cost per unit to permit it to be disposable. An aluminum foil of a thickness of .004 is well suited for this purpose.

The liner 10 has a border edge 20 which is rolled as at 22 to provide a continuous border for supplying a degree of rigidity to the liner.

The liner has a plurality of spaced parallel longitudinally extending raised line members or ridges 24 which coincide with the wire members 18. These raised members or ridges 24, as best seeen in FIG. 4, extend upwardly of the normal top plane of the liner surface. The wall surfaces between the ridges 24 are curved downwardly or concaved to provide a plurality of longitudinally extending troughs 26. Each trough 26 extends between two adjacent ridges 24. This is likewise true of the surface areas between the longitudinal border edge 20 and the adjacent ridges 24, thereby providing a trough 28 adjacent each of the longitudinal borders, which are similar to troughs 26. A continuous ledge 29' extends between the troughs and the border edge 22. The liner is provided with spaced openings 29 positioned in the troughs 26, each bounded by an upwardly extending flange 30. The openings are staggered.

The liner is positioned on the wire rack 16 so that the raised line members or ridges 24 fit over and sit on the spaced wire members 18 and are engaged by them to firmly position and retain the liner on the rack against displacement when something is positioned on the liner and on the rack.

The spaced openings 29 permit the heat to circulate through the liner in the oven and the shallow troughs 26 and 28 will serve as pockets to retain any of the grease, oil, drippings, etc., from the baked product placed thereon. The flanges 30 will prevent the grease from flowing out through the openings 29. The shallow troughs will each retain such greases which might be deposited therein and will prevent its passages to the adjacent rows or troughs and prevent it from all settling in one row or trough. This keeps the drippings distributed on the liner. The border edge 20 will prevent the drippings from flowing off the liner.

The liner is readily removable from the wire rack merely by lifting it therefrom. The liner may be removed and cleaned and reused, or it may be disposed of and a new liner may be substituted as the cost per liner is extremely low.

It will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made from the foregoing without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A removable liner for oven racks which has spaced cross-members, said liner comprising a member having a plurality of spaced parallel continuous extending ridges and spaced parallel continuous extending troughs with said troughs extending between said ridges and so constructed that when said liner is positioned on the oven rack the spaced parallel extending ridges will register with and rest on the spaced cross-members to cover said crossmembers and the troughs will extend between and below said cross-members, and a border surrounding said liner and formed integrally therewith, the bottom edge of said border lying substantially on a horizontal plane defined by the top of said ridges.

2. A structure defined in claim 1 in which openings are provided in the troughs permitting the air to circulate through the liner and in which the liner is made of aluminum foil.

Claims (1)

1. A REMOVABLE LINER FOR OVEN RACKS WHICH HAS SPACED CROSS-MEMBERS, SAID LINER COMPRISING A MEMBER HAVING A PLURALITY OF SPACED PARALLEL CONTINUOUS EXTENDING RIDGES AND SPACED PARALLEL CONTINUOUS EXTENDING TROUGHS WITH SAID TROUGHS EXTENDING BETWEEN SAID RIDGES AND SO CONSTRUCTED THAT WHEN SAID LINER IS POSITIONED ON THE OVEN RACK THE SPACED PARALLEL EXTENDING RIDGES WILL REGISTER WITH AND REST ON THE SPACED CROSS-MEMBERS TO COVER SAID CROSSMEMBERS AND THE TROUGHS WILL EXTEND BETWEEN AND BELOW SAID CROSS-MEMBERS, AND A BORDER SURROUNDING SAID LINER AND FORMED INTEGRALLY THEREWITH, THE BOTTOM EDGE OF SAID BORDER LYING SUBSTANTIALLY ON A HORIZONTAL PLANE DEFINED BY THE TOP OF SAID RIDGES.
