FIREPLACE sToVE Filed Oct. 4, 1965 2 Sheets-Sheet 2- LE; INVENTOR C44/PL J MM50/M TTENEYI United States Patent O 3,199,503 FHREPLACE STVE Carl I. Hanson, Box 312, Bufalo, S. Dak. Filed Get. 4, 1963, Ser. No. 314,070 2 Claims. (Cl. 126-25) This invention pertains to stoves .and is particularly directed to a combined lfireplace and stove unit.
One of the objects `of this invention is to provide a combination fireplace stove particularly adapted for lireplace cooking, campfire cooking, and 'by using the wood coals a-s a charcoal grill. i
Another object is to provide a combined fireplace and stove unit having various features and accessories that may be readily manipulated to vary and control the various cooking and heating functions that may be performed by the stove unit.
A further object is to provide a fireplace stove in which the ash grates and air draft through the ash box is so constructed as to make better cooking than in a conventional iireplace.
Still another object is to provide a fireplace stove unit for use in a house having critically disposed doors, damper, and air-draft which are under precise control at all times flor lire and smoke.
It is a further object to provide a ireplace stove that can be used for dutch oven cooking, spits for bar-b-que, a large grill for grilling meat, and small grills for frying pan or kettle together with adjustable legs for the grills for different wood coals, and hooks for coffee pot and kettles.
It is a further object to provide a ireplace stove which may function as a highly eliicient large space heater for hunting, camps, log cabins and the like.
The fireplace unit can be particularly used out-of-doors for Weiner roasts and grilling meats and the like with high eiiiciency.
Further features and advantages of this invention will appear from a detailed description of the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective front view of the fireplace stove unit incorporating the features of this invention arranged primarily for heating operations, with the fireplace door removed.
FlG. 2 is a perspective view of the fireplace stove unit arranged primarily for cooking operations, with the hinged doors in table position.
As an example of one embodiment of this invention there is shown a fireplace stove .comprising four upright legs 1t? intermediate the ends of w-hich is mounted the elevated floor 11 which includes a horizontal angle frame 11a suitably secured to the legs to hold the lioor l1 in elevated position. The roof l2 is suitably fastened at its corners 13 to the tops of the legs 10 and has upwardly and inwardly sloping panels 14 terminating at the bottom of a suitable stove pipe 15 in which is mounted an appropriate damper 16 having a suitable operating handle l?.
-Five doors 18, 19, 26, 2l `and 22 are hinged at 23 to the outer face ofthe angle frame 11a and a knob 24 closes the catch 25 at the top of the doors. Brace rods 26 are pivotally attached to suitable angle brackets 26a secured to the doors 18 to 22, and are adapted to -slide down the stove legs 10 and intermediate legs 27 in suitable slotted brackets Zdb attached to the legs, to provide support for Patented Aug. 10, i965 ICC the doors when swung out to horizontal position to make .a table, as shown in FIG. 2.
The removable door 28 is demounta'b-ly supported on the edge of the angle frame lla and held in vertical position by suitable tabs 29 at the bottom of the door and spring bolt-s 30 at the top which are adapted to engage in sockets Sila secured to the bottom edge of roof 12.
1FIG. 2 shows the fireplace stove Set up in open position for cooking with the grill 3l, dutch oven 32, and spit 33 positioned in the desired relation with coffee pot 3d, and kettle 35 hanging on suitable hooks 39 with the log fire 36 burning on the grate 37. An ash box 38a which may take the form of a drawer is mounted under the floor 11 below the ash grate 37. A charcoal tire 38 may be built under the grill 31 or the grill 31 moved over the burned down wood iire 36 as desired.
The floor 11 and ash grates 37 are arranged at table height -so that when the doors 18 to 22 are swung down horizontally they provide table height working and eating areas. When .all of the doors .1S to 22 are closed and removable door 28 is in place, the device may then be used as a large room heater. Removing door 28 arranges the dev-ice for use Ias a fireplace. There is then provided a fireplace stove that can readily be converted for a cooking and eating facility, -a fireplace and a spare heater by manipulating the va-rious self-contained doors and elements of the device.
While the apparatus herein ldisclosed and described constitutes a preferred form of the invention, it is also to be understood that the apparatus is capable of mechanical alteration without departing from the spirit of the invention and that such mechanical arrangement and cornmercial adaptation as fall within the scope of the append-` ent claims are intended to be included herein. Having thus fully set forth and described this invention what is claimed and desired to be obtained by United States Letters Patent is:
