COMBlNATlON-TOOL.
SPECIPICATIONEczming part of Letters Patent No. 318,920, dated .May 26, 1885.
Application filed March 2-1, 1885.
T aZZ whom it nit/coy concern Be it known that I, ALBERT E. LYTLE,a citi zen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, haveinvented certain newand useful Improvements in Combination-Tools, of which the following is a specification, to wit:
This invention relates to combination-tools; and it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the same, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and arrangement, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is asideview of my tool, and Fig. 2 is a section on the line as w.
A represents my tool or hatchet, cast or formed in one piece with its handle A. The latter is formed on its end with a claw, a, for pulling tacks, and has upon one side a scale or rule, a. The hatchet is formed with the usual hammerhead, I), having a nail-claw, b, and cutting-blade b having a notch, 11', for en gaging nails. head is secured a screw-driver, c, hinged or pivoted between lugs cast on the head, and having a spring, 0, to hold it open or closed, as may be desired.
The head of the tool is provided with a cir cnlar opening, in which is placed a ratchetdie, G, with which engages a spring-pawl, c, as shown in Fig. 1, the die being formed with Upon the forward edge of the (No model) an angular opening, 0 to receive a series of 5 nut-wrenches of various sizes, (not-here shown,) or which can be used as a wrench itself. This die is held in place by a plate, d, secured upon the side of the tool-head.
Upon the back of the handle, near the hammer-head, is hinged a barrel-hoop lifter, D, having a toe, d, and provided with a spring, (1", which bears against the pivoted end to re tain it either folded or extended.
The tool is very handy, combining ahatchet, hammer, tack and nail pullers,ratchet-wrench, barrel-hoop liftenand screw-driver,while both the latter are readily folded in against the main body of the device out of the way when not in use.
Havingthus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A combinationtool consisting of the hatchct head and handle A A, cast in one piece, and provided with the scale or rule a, tackclaw a, hammer head and claw b b, ratchetwrench hinged screw-driver c, and hinged hoop-lifter D, all constructed and arranged for operation substantially as herein shown, and
for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
