Description

E. B. SMITH. s'row TRUGK.
(No Model.)

O T N W. N rv NITED STATES PATENT OFFICEO FREDERICK B. SMITH, or GOLDWATER, MICHIGAN.
STOVE-TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 318,145, dated May 19,1885.
Application filed March 1'7, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK B. SMITH, a citizen of England, residing at Goldwater, in the county of Branch and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in-Stove-Trucks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to improvements in trucks for handling stoves; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices hereinafter set forth, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which Figure lrepresents a side view of my truck, showing the upper platform lowered. Fig. 2 is also a side view, showing the upper platform raised; and Fig. 3 is a plan view.
v Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the truck, which consists of the body portion at, having suitable caster-wheels 1), whereby the same is transported. Above this body portion a is arranged a platform, a, which is about the size of said body, and is pivoted thereto by means of the metal straps d, arranged on each side of said truck, as shown in the drawings. Hinged to the forward end of the body-board is the handle a, by which the same is drawn, and pivoted at f to said handle is a link or bar conneotion, g. The opposite end, h, thereof is piv oted to the forward end of the upper platform, as at i.
Secured to the upper face of the body at its forward end is a lug, j, to which is pivoted one end of a locking-bar, k, the free end Z of which engages notches m, made in the handle or a plate secured thereto. A stop, a, is provided to prevent the upper platform from advancing too far forward when the handle is drawn forward.
It will be seen from the above description, and by reference to the annexed drawings, that when the truck is placed beneath a stove, the platform and body lying close to one another, the handle is drawn forward, thus through the medium of the link or bar raising the up per platform upon its pivoted straps. The stove is raised at the same time upon said upper board, and when the two boards are directly one above the other the stop causes the upper board to stop at thesame time the lockbar engages the notch in the tongue or handle, when the stove may be readily carried thereon. A pin, 2, projects from the side of the lockbar, and may be struck by the foot in order to disengage said lock-bar from the handle; and it is durable, easily operated, and at the same time cheap to manufacture.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with the truck consisting of the upper platform, a, bed a, hinged to one another, as shown, and provided with the wheels I), tongue e, and coniiectingbar, of the lock-bar is, pivoted to the lug j, secured to the upper face of the body a, and provided with the lateral pin 1), and adapted to engage the rackbar m, secured to the upper face of thetongue, and the stop a, secured to the rear portion of the platform 0, whereby the forward movement of the platform is limited, the whole arranged as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Fl tEDERICK B. SMITH.
