Description

April 13, 1965 R. M. BAUMAN PORTABLE URINE SPECIMEN COLLECTING DEVICE Filed Aug. 6, 1964 INVENTOR. RALPH M. BAUMAN United States Patent 3,177,500 PORTABLE URINE SPECIMEN COLLECTING DEVICE Ralph M. Bauman, 7845 Lake Adlon Drive, San Diego, Calif. Filed Aug. 6, 1964, Ser. No. 388,020 6 Claims. (Cl. 4-110) The present invention relates to an improved portable urine specimen collecting device, and more particularly to an improved portable urine specimen collecting device which is contoured and equipped with an overflow drain, and more specifically to an improved portable urine specimen collecting device in which a collecting container is an integral part of the device.
According to the present invention, a funnel member having a top opening contoured for a snug fit over a females pelvic area i provided with a forward bottom section which forms a container integral with the funnel member, and an opening which provides an overflow outlet when the specimen container is full. Upon completion of urination, the user simply tilt-s the entire funnel member slightly forward to obviate any dripping from the overflow opening and pours the urine collected in the container portion into a convenient receptacle such as a standard urine specimen bottle. Another embodiment includes a stopper for a frictional engagement with the top of the container portion of the funnel member. In the latter embodiment, the entire structure can be utilized as the urine container as well as the urine collect-ing device.
An object of the present invention is the provision of a portable urine specimen collecting device for females in which a top opening is contoured for a snug fit over the users pelvic area.
Another object is to provide a portable urine specimen collecting device for females which has a drain for cooperation with a standard urine specimen container.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a portable urine specimen collecting device for females in which the said drain functions also as an overflow drain.
Still another object is to provide a portable urine specimen collecting device for females which can be utilized as the urine specimen container.
Yet another object is to provide a portable urine specimen collecting device for females which is compact, simple to manufacture and convenient to use.
Other objects and many of the attendant advantages of this invention will be readily appreciated as the same be comes better understood by reference to the following detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the figures thereof and wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of the embodiment of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a top view of the embodiment of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 4 is a sectional view of another embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to FIG. 1, funnel member 11 is shown generally having top opening 12, with raised front edge 13, lowered back edge '14 and bottom overflow and drain opening 16. Container portion 17 is forward and integral with front edge 18 and lower than opening 16.
Referring to FIG. 2, funnel member 11 again has opening 12 with raised front edge 13, lowered back edge 14 and overflow and drain opening 16. Container portion 3,177,500 Patented Apr. '1 3, 1965 17 is again shown integral with the front portion 18 of funnel member 11 and is lowered and forward of drain 16.
Referring to FIG. 3, funnel member 11 has contoured top opening 12 with raised front edge 13, lowered rear edge '14 and oveifiow and drain opening 16.
Referring to FIG. 4, funnel member 11 has contoured top opening 12 with raised front edge 13, lowered back edge 14 and drain and overflow opening 16. Container portion 17 is integral with front portion 18 and has stopper 19 frictionally engaged in container opening 12.
Referring back to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 it can be seen that in use the container portion 17 will fill until the level of overflow drain 16 is reached. At this time any excess will pass through drain 16 into a waste receptacle. It is pointed out that aperture 16 may have a hose attachment where convenient or necessary. After use, the entire unit 11 may be tipped slightly forward trapping the urine in container portion 17 and then poured off through drain 16 into a convenient receptacle such as a standard urine specimen bottle.
Referring to FIG. 4, the apparatus is operated in the same manner. In use container portion 17 fills up, any excess flowing out through excess drain aperture 16. At this time the unit may be tipped slightly to the rear, making sure all excess is removed, and a stopper 19 frictionally engaged with opening 21 of container portion 17. The entire unit can then be conveniently taken to a laboratory for analysis without the necessity of additional specimen containers.
It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing disclosure relates to only a preferred embodiment of the invention and that it is intended to cover all changes and modifications of the examples of the invention herein chosen for the purposes of the disclosure, which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. An improved portable urine specimen collecting device for females comprising:
a funnel member having a top opening contoured for a snug fit over a users pelvic area;
a first bottom opening in said funnel member;
a container portion integral with said funnel member and extending beneath said first bottom opening;
a second bottom opening in said funnel member, said second bottom opening being positioned for disposition of any overflow from said container.
2. The improved portable urine specimen collecting device of claim 1 wherein said first bottom opening is higher than said second bottom opening when said container is held upright.
3. The improved portable urine specimen collecting device of claim 2 and further including a stopper frictionally engaged with said first opening for sealing said container portion.
4. The improved portable urine specimen collecting device of claim 1 and further including a stopper frictionally engaged with said first opening for sealing said container portion.
5. An improved portable urine specimen collecting device for females comprising:
a funnel member having a top opening contoured for a snug fit over a users pelvic area and having front and back portions;
a container portion integral with said front portion and extending and disposed as the lowest portion of said funnel member;
an opening in said back portion, said opening being positioned for any overflow from said container.
i 4 d 6f-The improved portable --urine specimen collecting device of -c1aim-5 wherein said opening is '-highe1"-than said container portion when said container is held up right.
