E. T. LIPPERT'.
INSERTIBLE SAW TOOTH. No. 817,656. Patented May 12, 1885.
WITNESSES ggmg wm azwz N, PETERS. PlloimLilhognphar, Washington. D, C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
ERNST THEODOR LIPPERT, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
INSERTI BLE SAW-TOOTH.
' SPECIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,656, dated May 12, 1885.
Application filed February 2, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNST T. LIPPERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Teeth; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked th ereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to insertible saw-teeth, the object being to secure asaw-tooth by a combined wedge and clamping action, as hereinafter fully described.
The invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 illustrates aplan view of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a vertical, and Fig. 3 a longitudinal sectional, view of the same.
A represents a portion of the body of a saw formed with the usual recess to receive the heel B, which latter is grooved to fit the convex edges a of the recess. The heel B is formed with a recess, G,to receive the removable tooth D, and with an extended slot, E, which terminates in a round opening, F.
G represents a wedge formed convex on one side to enter the adjacent grooved edge of the heel, and grooved at its opposite side to engage the adjacent convex edge of the saw-recess.
(No model.)
It will be apparent that when the wedge is driven tightly in place it will have the effect not only of securing the heel in place, but also of clamping the toothtfirmly between the walls of its slotted seat, as the heel is made of superior steel, possessing considerable elasticity.
The devices thus described permit the ready removal and renewal of the tooth when necessarv.
I am aware that in this class of inventions it is not new, broadly,to employ aslotted heel in the recess of a saw-body and to employ a wedge for causing the saw-tooth to become tightly clamped between the sides of said recess; but I am not aware that the specific construction and combination of parts herein claimed have ever before been devised.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a sawbody having recess therein provided with convex edges, of the heel having grooved edges and formed with a recess to receive the removable tooth and with an extended slot terminating in a round opening, and a wedge formed convex on one side to enter the adjacent grooved edge of the heel, and grooved at its opposite side to engage the convex edge of the saw-recess, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ERNST THEODOR LIPPERT.
