A. GHOPARD.
STEM WINDING WATCH- Patented May 12, 1885..

U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE-O ALBERT OHOFARD, OF MOUTIER-GRANDVAL, SlVITZERLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE SOOIETE INDUSTRIELLE MOUTIEIt-GRANDVAL, OF SAME PLACE.
STEM-WINDING WATCH.
QPF CIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,627, dated May 12, 1885.
Application filed August 7, 1834. (No model.)
.To (ZZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT CHOPARD, of Moutier-Grandval, Switzerland, have invented an Improvement in Stem-\Vinding \Vatches,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the construction of the rocker-plate and connected parts.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents an elevation of the stem winding and setting mech- IO anism with the parts in position for winding up the watch. Fig. 2 is an elevation with the parts in position for setting the hands, and Fig. 3 is a section of the rockerplate and wheels connected with it.
The rocker A is pivoted upon a boss,f, projecting from the plate L, by means of the screw d, and this screw while keeping the rocker in place also forms the pivot upon which said rocker can be moved. The rocker carries the wheel E, connected to it by and turning upon the screw t, and this wheel E is between the rocker and the plate L, and is always in gear with a wheel, D, that is also between the rocker i and plate L. The wheel D has the bossffor its center of motion; but if the wheel revolved upon this boss said boss would soon become worn in consequence of its being part of the plate L, which is of comparatively soft metal, such as brass. I therefore place a ring of steel, 6, around the bossf, and secure it in place by the pin or screw h, and upon this steel ring the wheel D revolves. The wheel D gears with the crown-wheel M upon the winding and setting stem, which latter is provided with a crown, as usual. The rocker A is made with 5 four arms, a, b, c, and g. The arm 9 has a convex portion, against which the spring B rests. The arm 0 has an inclined end, against which the end of the lever G acts, and the arms a and 1) limit the movement of the rocker by 0 coming in contact with the sides of the circular recess occupied by the wheel E and that port-ion of the rocker having the arms a and b. The spring B keeps the rocker A in the position shown in Fig. 1, with the wheel E in gear 5 with the wheel F of the spring-barrel, the arm alimitiug the movement of the rocker. \Vhen' the rocker is moved by the lever C to the position shown in Fig. 2, the arm I) limits the movement of the rocker, and the wheel E is brought into gear with the wheel G, for setting the hands through the medium of the pinions J H and wheel K.
I claim as my invention- In a stem-winding watch, the combination, with the rocker A and the plate L, having a boss, f, of the wheel E and pivot "L upon said rocker, the steel ring 0, around the bossfand secured to the plate L, and the wheel D, rcvolving upon such steel ring, substantially as specified.
ALBERT CHOPARD.
