UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD V. PARKER, OF NEWARK, NEV JERSEY.
CAP Foe PEN-HOLDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 316,815, dated April 28, 1885.
Application filed July l1, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD W. PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Caps for Pen-Holders, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and accurate description.
My invention is especially adapted for use in connection with fountain-pens; and it consists in providing the pen holder or case with a cap of such form that one portion of the cap can lit over or upon the part of the case or holder holding the pen, while the other part is adapted to fit over or upon or Within the other end of the holder when the pen is in use. This construction of a pen-holder provides the pen, essentially, with a double cap, and thus prevents the part of the cap coming in contact with the pen, which in pens of the ordinary construction is liable to become inky through leakage, and when placed upon the other end of the holder ink that end, and so soil the hand or dress of the user. By my improvement this disadvantage is entirely done away with.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a pen- .holder with my improved cap covering the pen, the cap being shown in section. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view of my improved cap. Fig. 3 represents the form where the cap lits within the holder. p
My imprrovement is mad'eas follows: A represents a fountain-pen holder with pen. a is the end of the holder, adapted to receive the cap when the pen is in use.
B represents my improved cap, and is provided with the chamber C and the chamber or projecting part D. The chamber C is made sufficiently large to contain the pen and to it upon the portion of the holder holding the pen. The chamber or projection D is made of such size as to lit upon and contain or t within the part a.
When it is desired to close the holder when the pen is not in use, the chamber is placed over the pen, and thus effectually protects it.
When it is desired to use the pen, the cap B is removed from the pen and the chamber or projection D is placed upon the end a of the holder. Any ink which mayhave leaked into the chamber C is thus held in that chamber without possibility of soiling the holder.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A cap for pen-holders, of which one end ts over the pen, and the other end is adapted to t over or within the 'other end of the penholder, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day OfJuly, 1884.
RICHARD XV. PARKER. In presence of- ELWooD S. LEARY, WILLIAM EARL.
