4 Claims. (Cl. 1081-28) This invention. relates to 'displayracks.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide a rackfor displaying dishes and the like whichmay be formed. of 'relatively light stock and is strong and rigid and capable of supporting. relatively he avy, loads.
Second, to provide a display rack adapted to receive a plurality of plates,'sa'ucers, handled cups and thelike. Third, to provide a display rack adapted for the above indicated purposes which'is attractive in appearance.
7 Fourth, to provide a display rack having the above stated advantages which may be economically produced,
is strong and rigidand' one in which a plurality of the racks may be nestedfor storage or shipment.
Objectsrelating'to details and economies of the invention will appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined and pointed out in the claims.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a rack embodying applicants invention with some dishes or receptacles conventionally illustrated thereon.
FIG. 2 is a plan view.
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary end elevational view.
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary view in longitudinal section on a line corresponding to line 4-4 of FIG. 2.
The embodiment of applicant's invention illustrated is designed for the displaying of tableware and the manner of positioning the tableware thereon is indicated in FIG. 1, the tableware being conventionally illustrated; plates 1, saucers 2 or the like and cups 3 being conventionally illustrated in FIG. 1. v
The applicants display rack includes a frame compris ing parallel side members 4 and end members 5, these desirably being formed of one continuous strand of metal, the joint for the ends not being illustrated. The side members 4 have downwardly offset intermediate portions 6 of substantial length, the portions 7 of the offsets being substantially vertical in the embodiment shown, although they may be inclined.
The longitudinal rack members 8 are laterally spaced relative to each other and to the side members 4 and have offsets 9 therein corresponding to the offsets 7. The ends of these longitudinal members 8 are disposed on the urn derside of and fixedly secured, desirably by Welding to the end members 5.
A second series of longitudinal members 10 are disposed between the frame side members and the first series of longitudinal members 8 and these have downwardly olfset portions 11 corresponding to the downwardly ofiset portions of the frame side members and members 8. However these members 10 terminate in spaced relation to the end members and in upwardly facing hooks 12 which are downwardly offset relative to the end members 5 and the members 8, see FIGS. :1 and 4.
Crossbars 13 are disposed below the longitudinal members 8 and desirably at the juncture of the hooks with the members 10, as is illustrated in FIG. 4. The hooks are spaced from the underside of the longitudinal members 8 to permit engagement of the handles of cups therewith, as is illustrated in FIG. 1.
The downwardly oifset portions provide shelf-like supports for the dishes 1 and the portion of the rack at the outer side of the downwardly offset portion provides a support for dishes such as 2.
3,164,18 Patented Jan. 5, 1965 ice 2; In the embodiment illustrated the legrnernbers designatedgenerally bythe numeral 14* are of inverted U-shape stock provided with crossbars 15 which are racks-embodying applicants' invention are capable of carrying heavy loads. The crossbars 13 serve to connect the ends of the longitudinal members 10 to the members 8, the ends of whichare sk ecu red to the ends .of the frame. The crossbars 10" are positioned so thatthehooks are not distorted .by articles placed thereon or by stresses to which they'may besubjected to. i
I have illustrated my invention in a desirable commercial embodiment. "I have notattempted to illustrate a modification adapted for particular goods to be displayed as it'is believedthis disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt, the-invention as may be desired.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to secure by Letters Patent is:
