To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Fonnnsrnn M. TATLOW, of Hannibal, in the county of Marion and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Feed-Regulator for Roller-Mills, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to provide a feeding device which will deliver an even and steady stream of the material to be operated upon.
The invention consists in certain combinations and details of construction, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speoification,in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a cross-section of my improved feeding device, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same, parts being broken away.
A roller,A, grooved or fluted longitudinally, as at a, is mounted upon a shaft, B, journaled in ends 0 of a hopper, O, which shaft is to be revolved by suitable gearing from the mill. Flanges D are provided upon the ends of the roller A. The bottom of the hopper is adjustable vertically to and from the roller, and is formed of an inclined bottom, t, curved concentrically with the roller at the front and extending upward nearly to the center of the roller,.of sides h, and ofa rear end piece, 9, forming a shoe, E, to receive and retain the material, and in the forward curved end of which the roller A revolves. The rear end, 9, of the shoe E extends below the bottom 2' at g, and rests in grooves in brackets f, attached to the rear side of the hopper O. A cant-board, F, prevents the material passing into hopper G from falling behind the end 9 of the shoe. The sides of the shoe are slotted at j for the shaft B. The front of the hopper is inclined inward at 70, and in front of the roller A is a board, G, curved concentrically therewith. A shaft, H, is journaled in the brackets l at the front of the hopper, near the top, and at the center of this shaft is fixed an eccentric or cam block, I. tend to the forward corners of the shoe E. The weight J is preferably made hollow, to receive shot or other materials, a, to regulate the weight of the same.
The operation of the device is as follows: The middlings or other material to be fed to the rolls or elsewhere is passed into the hopper 0 through a suitable feed-spout and falls upon the shoe E. The roller A is revolved in the direction of the arrow to, and carries the material up the curved front of the shoe and out of the opening K,between the front of the shoe and the curved board G. The board G guides any of the material not passing out of the opening K over its top and back into the hopper, and prevents any passage of material when the roller is at rest. The pressure of the material in the hopper upon the shoe depresses the shoe and opens the slot K more or less, according to the gravity of the weight J, 7c and as the shaft His turned thereby the leverage of the strap in on the block I is increased until the shoe is held in a constant position, regulated by the weight J and the pressure of the material on the shoe.
This feeding device is adapted for use upon roller-mills,middlings-purifiers,and anywhere wherea steady even stream of feed is required, and will operate upon the coarsest bran or the finest middlings, or upon any kind ofgrain. 8c
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination,with the hopper G,having an adjustable bottom, of the shaft H, car- 8 rying the eccentric block I, the weight J, the connections 0 m, and the longitudinallygrooved roller A, journaled in the sides of the hopper, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, with the hopper Cand 0 the roller A, journaled therein, of the hinged shoe E. the eccentric blockl, the' straps m o, the weight J, and the cant-board F, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The combination, with the hopper O, 5 shoe E, and longitudinally-grooved roller A, of the shaft H, journaled at the front side of said hopper, the eccentric block I upon the shaft H, the weight J, having means for ad justing its weight, and the straps m and 0, substantially as shown and described, and for the journaled in thehopper, substantially as herein purpose set forth, 1 shown and described.
