' DRAFT-EQUALIZER.

SPECIFICATION farming part of Letters Patent No. 314,319, dated March 24, 1885.

Be it known that I, MoRDIoA A. DAVIDSON, a citizen of the United States, residing in Union township, in the county of Worth and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft-Equaiizers; andI do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and gures ot' reference marked thereon, which forni a part of this specification.

Figure l represents a top view, and Fig. 2 a front view, of the device.

The invention relates to an improvement in draft-equalizers; and it consists in the construction herein set forth and claimed.

In the annexed drawings, the letter A designates a pole or tongue to be secured in any well-known way to the wagon, 8mo., to which draft is to be applied.

Secured to and projecting from one side of the tongue A are the two arms a af, which meet at a2, at which point are swiveled two diverging'plates, b b, which are fastened to the under side of the evener B about midway. This evener B consists ot' two strips, b Z22, spaced apart, as shown. Between the ends of the evener are swiveled the whiftletrees C G on the bolts c c. Loosely held on these bolts, and projecting backward, are the plates D D', each havingV an eye, d d.

tongue A a sway-bar, E, projecting on each side of the tongue, and having the eyes e c at its ends.

Rods F F connect the ends of the sway-bar E with the plates D D'.

To the outer ends, c2 ci, ot' the whifielrees C C are secured two horses-one to each Whittietree-and to the inner ends ofthe whifietrees is secured one horse. This arrangement brings two horses on one side ot' the tongue and one horse on the other side, and the middle horse pulls on both whiffietrees about on a line with swivel a2. Bj' thus placing the various parts the pullingstrain is adj usted so as to be regulated according to the different strength of the horses.

The device is to be attached to a plow by the clevis, which may be secured to the bolt C.

In the plate D may be made a hole7 d2, for the ordinary stay-chain.

Having described my invention, what I claim is-l The combination of pole A, arms a a', plates b b, evener B, whiffletrees C C', sway-bar E, rods F F', and plates D D', all combined, constructed, and arranged as and for the purpose set forth.
