FRANK A. OUSHING, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
OVERFLOW-ALARM FOR WATER-=TANKS.
SPECIE'IUATION iorming part of Letters Patent No. 313,658, dated March 10, 1885.
Application filed April 18H. (N0 model.)
.To ail whom it may concern! Be it known that I, FRANK A. CUSHING, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Overflow-Alarms for Water-Tlanks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation, partly in section, of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, partly in section.
The object of this invention is to give notice when the tank is full by ringing a bell, and thus prevent the waste of water.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinalter fully described and claimed.
A represents the ordinary telltale pipe, leading from the upper part or" the tank to the engineers room. so that he can know when the said tank is full by the water beginning to flow through the said pipe. \Vith the pipe A is connected an enlarged section, B, which is made with a separate side plate, 0, secured in place by bolts or screws D. Within the l section B is placed a small waterwheel, E, i
made with radial wings or buckets, so that the said wheel E will be revolved by the passage of Water through the said section B. To one of the journals of the wheel E is at tached a pin, F, which at each revolution of the said wheel E strikes and operates a lever, G. The lever G is pivoted to the section B, and to its other end is attached, or upon it is formed, a hammer, H, which at each oscillation of the lever G strikes a gong, I, at taehed to the support J, formed upon or secured to the upper arm of the seetion B, to give notice when the OVQIilOW-Wtttt-El begins to run through the pipe A, so that the engineer can stop the pump, and thus prevent the waste of water.
Having thus described my invention. I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- The combination, with the tell-tale pipe of a water-tank, of the enlarged section B, with wheel Ejournaled therein, pin F on thejournal of said wheel. outside of the section B, lever-haininer G H. pivoted to the outside of the section B, and the gong I, also outside of the pipes, substantially as set forth.
