ilNiTED STATES PATENT EEicEG ADOLPH VESTER, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
BRACELET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,036, dated February 24, 1885.
Application tiled J'uue 17, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern:
Be'it known that I. ADoLPn VEsTER, of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Bracelets; and I do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the drawings making a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Figure l is a section of a bracelet which has for a part of its length, raised upon either side, an edge finish. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of same.
My invention relates, more particularly, to liat wire bracelets the edges of which require finishing to conceal or remove the rough protruding points ot" the wire; and it consists in attaching thereto short sections of a hollow cylindrical tube inthe manner hereinafter described.
In the manufacture of bracelets of this class much time and labor is expended upon the edges, which after al1 cannot be made to present a satisfactory and finished appearance.
In my invention I leave the edges substantially as they come from the machine, and press the whole through suitable rollers to form near either edge, upon both sides, longitudinal grooves or troughs a d d a, the grooves upon one side being opposite the grooves upon the other. I then take a hollow rod of suitable size ofsome elastic metal and cut it lengthwise upon one side, after which I cut it crosswise into short sections b b b b. Ihese sections are easily sprung open sufficiently to admit the thin portion of the bracelet, separating the grooves upon either side, and thus slipped on, as shown in Figs. l and 2, entirely concealing the rough edges and forming a handsome tinish, which permits the bracelet to readily conform at all times to the shape of the wrist. The same principle can be carried out by leaving the side rods in a continuous strip, although I prefer to cut into sections. as described, and thus secure greater pliability.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A bracelet having a body formed of woven wires, and provided with short sections of hollow wire placed over the edges thereof, substantially as set forth.
ADOLPH VESTER.
