K W\LLEM VPNDEBERG vita/6 A 7T0 RNEYS United States Patent 3 126,130 ATTACHlNG NEANS CARRYlNG A CONTAINER CONTAINING A DISlNlFECTlNG AND AIR-PURI- FYING MEDIUM THAT IS TO BE ATGMTZED Johannes Hendrik Willem Vandeherg, Maastrieht, Netherlands, assignor to Naamloze Vennootsehap: Eehfa, voorheen Enschedesche Chemotechnische Handelsonderneming en Fahriek N.V., Haven, Ensehede, Netherlands, a corporation of Netherlands Filed Feb. 2, 1961, Ser. No. 86,692 Claims. (Cl. 222-480) The present invention relates to an attaching and actuating means carrying an aerosol container closed by a dispensing valve and containing a disinfecting and airpurifying medium, which upon the actuation of the dispensing member for the valve leaves the container in atomized form through said valve, said attaching means being adapted to attach said container to a reservoir or another support, said attaching means including an at least substantially U-shaped clip, one leg of which is bent through 90 and holds the container.
An attaching means of this type is known from British Patent 376,995 and in this known means one leg of the U-shaped clip is provided with a spring which serves as a clamping means for attaching the clip to a flushing cistern, the other leg being provided with a tong-shaped clamping means for holding the container. Furthermore, said clip is provided with a separate device forming the means for actuating the dispensing member that operates the valve of the container.
The object of this invention is to simplify said known device and to so construct it that the holding means, the attaching means and the actuating means can be manufactured as one whole.
To achieve this end the U-shaped clip according to the invention is made from resilient material, the one leg of said clip bent through 90 being provided with an aperture accommodating the top of the container, a portion of said leg forming the attaching means, the other leg forming the means for actuating the dispensing member.
According to a feature of the invention said other leg may be lengthened by a portion located opposite the portion of the one leg that forms the attaching means.
According to another feature the web of the U-shaped clip may be lengthened by a bifurcated portion on the side of said other leg.
According to still another feature of the invention the clip may be made of resilient sheet metal or of wire.
From British Patent 21,166/ 1912 and from US. Patent 2,545,991 it is known per se to make the actuating means for a dispensing member of an aerosol container containing a liquid to be atomized consist of a resilient U- shaped member, one leg of which is secured to the container, while the other leg extends opposite the dispensing member of said container.
The invention will be elucidated hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE 1 shows a sheet metal clip and container assembly secured to the wall of a flushing cistern;
FIGURE 2 is an elevation of the clip and container assembly according to FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 shows a sheet metal clip and container assembly secured to the wall adjacent the push-button for actuating a flushing cistern;
FIGURE 4 is an elevation of the clip according to FIGURE 3.
According to FIGURES 1 and 2 the attaching means consists of a single metal sheet bent in the form of a U. The one leg 12 is provided with an aperture 13 and an extension 14. Said extension extends in the direction of the other leg 15 and ends in a hook 16. The
aperture 13 is so formed that the container 1 may have its top pushed into said aperture, the dispensing member 2 passing along the extension and the top of the container being firmly engaged owing to the shape which the aperture 13 has after the folding over of the extension 14. The other leg 15 extending above the dispensing member 2 is lengthened by extension 26 to extend above the hook 16.
The attaching means is mounted on the wall of the flushing cistern beneath the lever for operating said flushing cistern, so that the extension 26 is located in the path of movement of said lever.
FIGURES 3 and 4 show an attaching means for the container 1, the dispensing member 2 of which is actuated simultaneously with the actuation of the push button 17 of a flushing cistern.
According to this embodiment there is a U-shaped sheet metal clip 18, whose one leg 19 is provided with an aperture 20 and an extension 21 extending in a direction away from the other leg 22. The aperture 20 is so shaped that the top of the container may be accommodated therein, the dispensing member 2 passing the yolk formed by the clip 18, the top of the container being engaged by the fork obtained by providing the aperture in the leg 19. The other leg 22 extending above the dispensing member 2 is provided with longitudinal incisions, the outer lips 23 obtained in this matter being bent in the direction away from the leg 19 and forming a fork.
The clip has its extension 21 secured by means of the screws 24 to the wall below the push-button device for actuating a flushing cistern.
The lips 23 are located in the path of movement of the push-button 17, so that upon pressing down the pushbutton 17 the lips .23 at the end of the movement of the push-button 17 are displaced by the latter, so that the clip 18 is deformed and the leg 22. pushes down the dispensing member 2 or" the container 1.
I claim:
1. An attaching and actuating device for attaching an aerosol container having a dispensing valve actuated by a dispensing member from a support and for actuating the dispensing member, said device comprising a U-shaped clip of spring material, one leg of said clip having an aperture therein adapted to receive the top of the container and hold the container, said one leg of said clip having an attaching means on the free end thereof remote from the end which is joined to the other leg of the clip, said attaching means extending perpendicularly to said one leg for attaching the clip to a support, the other leg 'of said clip being adapted to be positioned immediately above the dispensing member of said container when the container is held by the one leg of said clip, and an actuat-ing means on said other leg of said clip at least part of which extends perpendicularly to said other leg of said clip for moving the other leg of said clip toward said one leg of said clip to depress said dispensing member when a force is exerted on said actuating means.
2. An attaching and actuating device as claimed in claim 1 in which said actuating means comprises an extension on the free end of said other leg of said clip and having a laterally extending portion on the end of the extension adapted to be pressed so as to move the said other leg toward the one leg.
