No..181,767 18 Claims. (Cl. 206-16) The present invention relates to a razor blade dispenser and, more particularly, to a dispenser for dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type. V
This is a continuation-in-part of my application Serial No. 87,591, filed February 7, 1961.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a new and improved razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, which dispenser may be economically and easily manufactured and assembled, is simple for the consumer to operate, and functions smoothly despite considerable manufacturing tolerances.
While the foregoing statements are indicative in a general way of the nature of the invention, other more specific objects and advantages will be apparent to those skilled in the art upon a full understanding of the construction, arrangement and function of the several parts which have been combined to form the improved razor blade dispenser.
Two preferred embodiments of the invention are pre: sented herein, but it will, of course, be appreciated that the invention is susceptible of incorporation in still other forms coming equally within the scope of the appended claims.

Afully assembled razor blade dispenser 25 embodying one preferred form of the invention is illustrated in FIGS. 19. The dispenser 25 is comprised of three elements ineluding a body member 26 (FIGS. 1013) which may be formed of plastic or other material having a degree of resiliency, a top cover or plate member 27 (FIGS. 14- 18) formed of a somewhat resilient sheet material, and a bottom cover or plate member 28 (FIGS. 19-23) also formed of a somewhat resilient sheet material.
The body member 26 is characterized by a pair of spaced side walls 30 and a generally horizontal wall 31 which is disposed intermediate the upper and lower edges of the side walls 30 an d which terminates somewhat short of the front and rear edges thereof. The front end of the body member 26 is providedon the underside of the wall 31 with a pair of laterally spaced formations 33 de fining an upwardly opening transversely extendingnotch 34. The notch 34 is characterized by a bottom surface which is spaced below the horizontal wall 31, a rear surface which is defined by a downward extension of the front edge of the horizontal wall 31 and a front surface which is provided by a forward wall 38 the upper surface of which is disposed slightlybelow the upper surface of the horizontal wall 31. The spaced formations 33 defining the notch 34 provide a gap 35 (FIG. 10) therein approximately midway between the side walls 30 for assembly purposes as will be described hereinafter. The horizontal wall 31 of the body member 26 is provided with a longitudinally extending centrally located cut-out finger-like portion 41 which is attached at its rear end to the main portion of the Wall 31 and which is provided forwardly of its rear end with an upstanding formation whereby to provide a guide rib 43 which is resiliently depressible or yieldable in a downward direction. The guide rib 43 is provided with a downwardly inclined rear surface 44 for a purpose which will be evident hereinafter.
The central POItiOn of the rear edge of the horizontal wall 31 is slightly cut away, as at 45, for assembly convenience. The inner surfaces of the side Walls 30 of the body member 26 are provided beneath the horizontal wall 31 with formations each of which serves to provide an inwardly extending downwardly facing shoulder 47, which shoulders extend substantially the length of the horizontal wall 31 and are disposed slightly above the lower edges of the side walls 30. The shoulders 47 serve a purpose which will be described hereinafter.
The top cover or plate member 27 is characterized by a generally flat portion 50 which is adapted to be disposed above the horizontal wall 31 of the body member 26 and between the side walls 30 thereof. The front end of the flat portion '50 is provided with a transversely extending raised rib 51 and the forward edge of the fiat portion 50' is bent downwardly whereby to provide a front end portion 52. The rear edge of the fiat portion Sll is bent downward-1y to provide a rear end port-ion 53.
g The upper edge of the depending front end portion 52 ofthe top cover 27 is provided with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot 54 which is aligned with the underside of the fiat portion 50 and is adapted to permit passage the-rethrough of a single double edge razor blade. The lower edge of the front end portion 52 is provided substantially" midway between its outer ends with a narrowed extension 56 which extends first downwardly and then rearwardly and the lower edge of the rear end portion 53 is provided adjacent its outer ends with a pair of forwardly extending tabs 57 for assembly purposes as will be described. The fiat portion 50 is provided with a centrally located thumb opening 58, which opening includes a centrally located forwardly extending narrowed extension or slot '59.
The bottom cover or plate member 28 is characterized by a flat portion 68* which is adapted to be disposed be low the horizontal wall 31 of the body member 26 and between the side walls 30 thereof. The front edge of the flat portion 68} is bent upwardly to provide a front end portion 61 and the rear edge portion is bent upwardly to provide a rear end portion 62. The upper corners of the rear end portion 62 are cut away whereby the main portion of the rear end portion '62 is reduced in width relative to the flat portion 60. The upper edge of the reducedin-width rear end portion 62 is provided at its opposite ends with a pair of forwardly projecting tabs 64 and the upper edge of the front end portion 61 is provided with a rearwardly bent portion 65 for assembly purposes as will be described. The flat portion 69 of the bottom cover 28 is provided intermediate its ends with a transversely extending used blade entrance slot 67 and the front corner of the bottom cover 28 defined by the flat portion 60 and the front end portion 61 is provided with a centrally located upwardly and rearwardly directed recess 68 for a purpose to be described.
In assembling the razor blade dispenser 25, a stack 70 of new double edge blades of the centrally slotted type is placed on the upper surface of the horizontal Wall 31 of the body member 26 with the guide rib 43 extending upwardly through the central slots in the blades in the stack 70. The top cover 27 is then placed over and supported on the stack of blades 70 with the upper portion of the guide rib 43 being accommodated in the slot 59 provided in the top cover 27. The front end portion 52 of the top cover 27 extends downwardly partially into the notch 34- with its rearwardly extending narrowed extension 56 being loosely hooked below the front edge of the horizontal Wall 31. The bottom cover 28 is then fitted against the underside of the body member 26 with the side edges of the flat portion 60 being disposed against the downwardly facing shoulders 47 and with the rearwardly extending bent portion 65 of the front end portion 61 fitted over the upper edge of the front wall 38 of the notch 34. The tabs 64 on the rear end portion 62 of the bottom cover 28 are then snapped over the cut-away central portion .5 of the rear edge of the horizontal wall 31. Lastly, the tabs 57 on the rear end portion 53 of the top cover 27 are snapped over the rear edge of the horizontal wall 31 of the body member 26 through the openings defined by the cut-away corners of the rear end portion 62 of the bottom cover 28. As best illustrated in FIGS. 7, 8 and 9, the rearwardly extending bent portion 65 of the front end portion 61 of the bottom cover 28 projects inwardly of the notch 34 a distance sufficient to prevent disengagement of the rearwardly extending narrowed extension 56 of the front end portion 52 of the top cover 27 from its hooked engagement with the front edge of the horizontal wall 31 whereby to prevent removal of the top cover 27 until after the bottom cover 28 has been disassembled from the body member 26.
The fiat portion 50 of the top cover 27 defines the upper wall and the horizontal wall 31 defines the lower wall of a new blade compartment 72 Within which the stack 70 of new blades is disposed. The top cover 27 is supported directly on the uppermost blade in the stack 70 of new blades in the new blade compartment 72 whereby the uppermost blade is aligned with the exit slot 54. Frictional engagement of the uppermost blade in the stack 70 through the thumb opening 58 serves to advance the uppermost blade outwardly through the exit slot 54 to eject the same from the dispenser 25. As illustrated in 4 FIG. 7, when the dispenser 25 is filled with the stack 70 of new centrally slotted blades, the upper portion of the guide rib 43 normally projects upwardly through the central slots in the blades and the slot 59 formed in the flat portion 50 of the top cover 27. The resiliently depressible guide rib 43 having the downwardly inclined rear surface 44 is cammed downwardly by the unsl-otted rear end portion of the blade being ejected whereby to permit complete removal of such blade from the dispenser 25. A depressed position of the guide nib 43 is shown in broken line in FIG. 7. After the blade has been fully ejected, the resiliently depressible guide rib 43 springs back to its normal position wherein the upper portion thereof extends above the upper surface of the top cover 27.
As the blades are ejected from the dispenser 25, the top cover 27 moves under its own weight progressively closer to the horizontal wall 31 of the body member 26 so that when the last blade has been ejected and the dispenser 25 is empty, the top cover 27, at least the forward portion thereof, is supported directly on the upper surface of the horizontal wall .31 of the body member 26, as illustrated in FIG. 9. The uppermost blade in the stack 70 is at all times aligned with the exit slot 5-4 inasmuch as the top cover 27 is supported directly thereon. With the top cover 27 being movable progressively toward the horizontal wall 31 as the blades are ejected from the dispenser 25, the top cover 27 may be described as being fioatingly mounted on the body member 26. It is noted that the lower edge of. the front end portion 52 of the top cover 27 does not bottom on the lower surface of the notch 34 until the last blade has been ejected from the dispenser 25.
An alternate form of razor blade dispenser embodying the invention is illustrated in FIGS. 24 and 25. As in the first described form of the dispenser 25, the dispenser 125 is comprised of three elements including a body member 126 (FIGS. 26-29) which may be formed of plastic or other material having a degree of resiliency, a top cover or plate member 127 (FIGS. 30-34) formed of resilient sheet metal material, and the bottom cover or plate member 28 of FIGS. 19-23.
The body member 126 is characterized by a pair of spaced side walls 130 and a generally horizontal wall 131 which is disposed intermediate the upper and lower edges of the side walls 130 and which terminates somewhat short of the front and rear edges thereof. A pair of laternally spaced and aligned forwardly disposed upwardly opening U-shaped members 133 depend from the underside of the front edge of the horizontal wall 131 whereby to define a discontinuous upwardly opening transversely extending notch 134. The U-shaped members 133 are preferably formed integrally with the side walls 130 and the horizon-tal wall 131 with the notch 134 being characterized by a bottom surface which is spaced substantially below the horizontal wall '131, a rear surface which is vertically aligned with the front edge of the horizontal wall 131, and by a front surface which is spaced forwardly of the front edge of the horizontal wall 131. The upper surfaces 138 of the forward portions of the U-shaped members 133 are spaced slightly below the upper surface of the horizontal wall 131 and the undersides of the U-shaped members 133 are spaced slightly above the bottom edges of the side walls 130. The spaced U-shaped members 133 defining the discontinuous notch 134 provide a gap 135 (FIG. 26) therein which is disposed centrally between the side walls 130 for a purpose that will be evident hereinafter.
' The horizontal wall 131 of the body member 126 is prow'ded with a longitudinally extending centrally located cutout finger-like portion 136 which is attached at itsrear end to the main portion of the wall 131 and which is provided forwardly of its rear end with an upstanding formation whereby to provide a guide rib 137 which is resiliently depressible or yieldable in a downwarddirection. The upper edge of the guide rib 137 is provided with a forward surface portion 141 which is inclined downwardly and rearwardly and a rear surface portion 142 which is inclined downwardly and rearwardly therefrom at a greater angle to the horizontal wall 131 for a purpose which will be evident hereinafter.
A stack 17-1 of new double edge razor blades of the centrally slotted type is adapted to be supported on the upper surface of the horizontal wall 131 of the body member 126 with the guide rib 137 extending upwardly through the central slots in the blades in the stack 171. The upper surface of the horizontal wall 131 is provided with a pair of laterally spaced longitudinally extending shallow grooves 144 which provide clearance for the pair of cutting edges of the lowermost one of the blades in the stack 171.
As best illustrated in FIG. 27, a series of four pairs of ribs extend downwardly from the underside of the horizontal wall 131 for purposes which will be evident hereinafter, all of which ribs are preferably formed integrally with the horizontal wall 131 and/or the side walls 131) of the body member 126. The first pair of ribs 145 extend laterally inwardly from the side walls 130 with their inner edges being aligned generally with the inner edges of the laterally spaced U-shaped members 133. The pair of ribs 145 are spaced rearwardly from the U shaped members 133 a distance which is approximately equal to one-quarter of the length of the body member 125.
The second and third pairs of ribs 146 and 147, respectively, extend laterally inwardly from the side walls 130 for a distance which is approximately equal to the thickness of the side walls 130 and are therefore relatively short in a lateral direction. The pair of ribs 146 is aligned generally with the rear edge of the horizontal wall 131 and the pair of ribs 147 are spaced forwardly thereof a distance which is approximately equal to onequarter of the length of the body member 126. The lower edges of the pairs of ribs 145, 146 and 147 are spaced slightly above the lower edges of the side walls 130 and are substantially in horizontal alignment with the nndersides of the U-shaped members 133 at the forward end of the body member 126.
The fourth pair of ribs 148 extend longitudinally in a forward direction from the rear edge of the horizontal wall 131 for a distance slightly greater than one-half the length of the body member 126. The pairs of ribs 143 which are laterally spaced apart are disposed against the inner edges of the second and third pair of ribs 146 and 147. The lower edges of the ribs 148 are characterized by horizontally disposed forward portions 14? which are spaced slightly above the lower edges of the pairs of ribs 145, 146 and 147 and by portions 150 which are inclined upwardly and rearwardly therefrom into flush engagement with the underside of the horizontal wall 131 at its rear edge. The functions which these four pairs of ribs serve will be fully described hereinafter.
The top cover or plate member 127 is characterized by a generally flat portion 152 which, when the top cover is assembled on the body member 126, is adapted to be disposed above the horizontal Wall 131 of the body member 126 and between the side walls 130 thereof, by a downwardly bent front end portion 153 which extends downwardly into the upwardly opening notch 134, by a downwardly bent rear end portion 154, and by a pair of laterally spaced finger portions 155 which extend forwardly from the bottom edge of the rear end portion 154 directly beneath the pair of ribs 148 with their forward ends terminating beneath the horizontally disposed bottom edge portions 149 of the ribs 148 and being interconnected by a transverse cross bar 156. The front end of the fiat portion 152 is provided with a transversely extending raised rib 15-7 and the upper edge of the depending front end portion 153 is provided with a forwardly directly transversely extending blade exit slot 158 which is aligned with the underside of the flat portion 152 and is adapted to permit passage therethrough a single double edge razor blade. The lower edge of the depending front end portion 153 is provided substantially midway between its opposite ends with a narrowed extension 159 which extends first downwardly through the gap between the U-shaped members 133 and then rearwardly beneath the front edge of the horizontal wall 131. The flat portion 152 of the top cover plate 127 is further characterized by a centrally located thumb opening 160, whereby to permit frictional engagement with the upper razor blade in the stack 171, and by a centrally located slot 161 which extends forwardly from the thumb opening 160 and is adapted for receiving therethrough the guide rib 137.
The flat portion v152 of the top cover plate 127 which is adapted to be disposed above the horizontal wall 131 and the portion thereof which is adapted to be disposed beneath the horizontal wall 131, including the pair of laterally spaced finger portions 155 and the cross bar 156, are sprung toward each other whereby when the top cover plate 127 is assembled on the body member 126 with the stack 1.71 of new double edge razor blades supported on the horizontal wall 131, the flat portion 152 is resiliently urged downwardly against the uppermost blade in the stack 171 and the cross bar 155 is resiliently urged upwardly against the horizontally disposed forward portions 143 of the bottom edges of the pair of laterally spaced ribs 148. Thus, each time a blade is ejected from the dispenser, the top cover plate 127 is resiliently urged downwardly against the next uppermost blade in the stack 17 1. The blade exit slot 158 is therefore aligned at all times with the uppermost blade in the stack 17 1.
The bottom cover or plate member 28 is assembled on the body member 126 in substantially the same manner, previously described herein, that it is assembled on the body member 26 of the dispenser 25. The flat portion 61) of the bottom plate member 25 is disposed between the opposite side walls 130 of the body member 1126 adjacent the lower edges thereof and against the undersides of the U-shaped members 133 and the lower edges of the first, second and third pairs of ribs v145, 146 and 147 with the forwardly projecting tabs 64 on the upwardly bent rear end portion 62 thereof being snapped over the rear edge of the horizontal wall 131 laterally inwardly of the forwardly projecting finger portions 155 of the top cover plate 127 and with the rearwardly bent portion 65 on the upwardly bent front end portion 61 thereof fitted over the upper edges 138 of the forwar-dmost portions of the U-shaped members 133. When the bottom cover plate 2 8 is assembled on the body member 126, as illustrated in FIGS. 24 and 25, the used blade entrance slot 67 is disposed rearwardly of the first pair of ribs for a purpose which will be evident hereinafter. The rearwardly extending bent portion 65 on the front end portion 611 of the bottom cover 28 projects rearwardly over the top of the notch 134 (FIGS. 24 and 25) a distance sufficient to prevent inadvertent disengagement of the rear-wardly extending narrowed extension 159 on the front end portion 153 of the top cover 127 from its hooked engagement under the front edge of the horizontal wall 131. The front edge of the cross bar 156 of the top cover 127 is curved gently downwardly in a forward direction into engagement with the upper surface of the hat portion 60 of the bottom cover plate 28 for a purpose which will be explained hereinafter.
The fiat portion 15-2 of the top cover 127 defines the upper wall and the horizontal wall 131 defines the lower wall of a new blade compartment 172 within which the stack 17.1 of new blades is disposed. When the dispenser 125 is \filled with the stack 171 of new centrally slotted blades (FIG. 24), the upper portion of the guide rib 137 normally projects upwardly through the central slots in the blades and through the slot 161 formed in the flat portion 152 of the top cover 127. The downwardly inclined upper edge surfaces 141 and 142. of the guide rib 137'facilitate down-ward camming of the resiliently depressible guide rib 127 by the unslotted rear end portion of a blade being ejected from the dispenser whereby to permit complete removal of such blade from the dispenser 125. After each blade has been fully ejected, the resiliently depressible guide rib 1-37 springs upwardly back to its normal position wherein the upper portion thereof extends above the upper surface of the top cover 127. As each blade is ejected from the dispenser 125, the top cover 127 is resiliently urged downwardly closer to the horizontal wall 131 of the body member 1Z6 so that when the last blade has been ejected and the dispenser 125 is empty (FIG. 25), the top cover 127, at least the forwardmost portion thereof, is resiliently urged into engagement with the upper surface of the horizontal wall 131 of the body member 126. When the dispenser 12-5 is filled with the stack 171 of new blades, the lower edge of the front end portion 153 of the top cover 127 is spaced substantially above the lower surface of the notch 134 and the lower edge of the front end portion 153 is not permitted to bot-tom on the lower surface of the notch 134 while any new blades remain in the new blade compartment 172.
In both forms of the invention, the undersides of the horizontal walls 31 and 131 of the body members 26 and 126, respectively, and the flat portion 60 of the bottom cover 28 define the upper and lower walls, respectively, of used blade compartments 7 4 and 17 4 into which used blades may be inserted through the blade entrance slot 67. The rear end portion 62 of the bottom cover 28 serves as the rear wall of the used blade compartments 74 and 174 with rearwardly facing surfaces 75 of the laterally spaced formations 33 and the pair of ribs 145 serving, respectively, as the front walls thereof. In the dispenser 125, it is noted that the laterally spaced longitudinally extending pair of ribs 143 are spaced far enough apart so that used blades inserted into the used blade compartment 174 through the used blade entrance slot 67 may be freely inserted between the ribs 148. The downwardly curved front end portion of the cross bar 156 permits the rear edges of used blades inserted into the used blade compartment 174 to be guided over the cross bar 156 and into the rear portion of the used blade compartment 174. The centrally located corner recess 68 formed in the lower front edge of the bottom cover 28 may be used to center the dispensers -25 and 125 relative to a double edge safety razor of a well-known type by fitting the recessed portion 68 over the center bar thereof.
I claim:
1. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, a body member characterized by upstanding side walls and a horizontally disposed bottom wall upon which is supported a stack of new centrally slotted blades, 2. cover plate which is supported on the uppermost blade in said stack of new blades between said upstanding side walls of said body member and which is mounted on said body member in a manner whereby said cover plate is progressively movable downwardly toward said bottom wall of said body member as each blade is ejected from the dispenser, said cover plate having a depending front end portion provided with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot in its upper edge in alignment with the underside of the cover plate whereby said exit slot is at all times aligned with the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades regardless of the number of blades in the stack, a longitudinally extending centrally located fingerlike portion attached at its rear end to said bottom wall and provided forwardly of its rear end with a resiliently depressible upstanding guide rib, which rib projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of the blades in the stack of new blades, and means provided in said cover plate facilitating ejection of the uppermost blade in the stack through said exit slot with said cover plate being movable progressively toward said bottom wall of said body member as the blades are ejected, said guide rib being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction to permit movement of the unslotted rear end portion of the uppermost blade in the stack over and past said guide rib during ejection of the uppermost blade from the dispenser.
2. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, a body member characterized by upstanding side walls and a horizontally disposed bottom wall upon which is supported a stack of new centrally slotted blades, a cover plate supported on the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades between said upstanding side walls of said body member and having depending front and rear end portions, a for- Wardly directed transversely extending exit slot formed in the upper edge of said front end portion of said cover plate in alignment with the underside thereof whereby said exit slot is at all times aligned with the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades, a longitudinally extending centrally located finger-like portion attached at its rear end to said bottom wall and provided forwardly of its rear end with a resiliently depressible upstanding guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of the blades in the stack of new blades, means provided in said cover plate facilitating ejection of the uppermost blade in the stack through said exit slot with said cover plate being movable progressively toward said bottom wall of said body member as the blades are ejected, said guide rib being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction to permit movement of the unslotted rear end portion of the uppermost blade in the stack over and past said guide rib during ejection thereof from the dispenser, and means for mounting said cover plate on said body member in a manner permitting relative movement of said cover plate toward and away from said bottom wall of said body member.
3. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, a body member having bottom and side walls and a stack of new centrally slotted blades supported on said bottom wall, a cover plate disposed between said side walls and supported on the stack of new blades, said cover plate being characterized by a downwardly extending rear end portion and by a downwardly extending front end portion which latter portion is provided with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot disposed in alignment with the underside of said cover plate whereby the uppermost blade in the stack is in alignment with said exit slot, means formed on the lower edges of said front and rear end portions of said cover plate and extending beneath the front and rear edges, respectively, of said bottom wall for connecting said cover plate to said body member in a manner whereby said cover plate is adapted for movement downwardly toward said bottom wall as blades are ejected from the dispenser, a longitudinally extending centrally located finger-like portion attached at its rear end to said bottom wall and provided forwardly of its rear end with a resiliently depressible upstanding guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of the blades in the stack of new blades, and a thumb opening formed in said cover plate whereby the uppermost blade in the stack may be frictionally engaged and slidably moved forwardly through said exit slot to eject the same from the dispenser, said guide rib having a downwardly inclined rear end portion and being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction to permit movement of the unslotted rear end of the uppermost blade over and past said guide rib during ejection thereof from the dispenser.
4. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, a body member characterized by a horizontal wall and by side walls extending above and below said horizontal wall,
said body member being adapted to have a stack of new centrally slotted blades supported on said horizontal wall, a cover plate disposed between the upper portions of said side walls for supporting engagement on said stack of new blades and having front and rear end portions extending downwardly past the front and rear edges of said horizontal wall, respectively, said downwardly extending front end portion of said cover plate being provided with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot disposed in alignment with the underside of said cover plate whereby the uppermost blade in the stack is in alignment with said exit slot, means on said front and rear end portions of said cover plate extending beneath the front and rear edges of said horizontal wall, respectively, for connecting said cover plate to said body member in a manner permitting downward movement thereof toward said horizontal wall as the new blades are ejected from the dispenser, a longitudinally extending centrally located fingerlike portion attached at its rear end to said horizontal wall and provided forwardly of its rear end with a resiliently depressible upstanding guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of the blades in said stack of new blades, means in said cover plate facilitating ejection of the uppermost blade through said exit slot, the upper edge of said guide rib being inclined downwardly and rearwardly and said guide rib being resiliently yield-able in a downward direction to permit movement of the unslotted rear end portion of the uppermost blade over and past the guide rib during ejection thereof from the dispenser, a bottom plate disposed between the lower portions of said side walls and spaced beneath said horizontal wall whereby to provide a used blade compartment, said bottom plate having a transversely extending slot formed therein through which used blades may be inserted into said used blade compartment, and upstanding means at the front and rear ends of said bottom plate for rigidly connecting same to said body member at the front and rear ends thereof.
5. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, a body member characterized by a horizontally disposed bottom wall and upstanding side walls and adapted to have a stack of new centrally slotted blades supported on said bottom wall, a cover plate disposed between said upstanding side walls for supporting engagement on said stack of blades and having front and rear end portions which extend downwardly past the front and rear edges, respectively, of said bottom wall, said front and rear end portions of said cover plate having portions extending beneath the front and rear edges of said bottom wall whereby to connect said cover plate to said body member in a manner permitting relative vertical movement therebetween, a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot formed in the upper edge of said downwardly extending front end portion of said cover plate in alignment With the underside thereof whereby the uppermost blade in the stack supporting said cover plate is in alignment with said exit slot, a longitudinally extending centrally located finger-like portion attached at its rear end to said bottom wall and provided forwardly of its rear end with a resiliently depressible upstanding guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of the blades in the stack of new blades and through a slot formed in said cover plate rearwardly of said front end portion thereof, a thumb opening formed in said cover plate rearwardly of said slot whereby to facilitate forward movement of the uppermost blade through said exit slot, said guide rib being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction to permit movement of the unslotted rear end portion of the uppermost blade over and past the guide rib during ejection thereof from the dispenser, and upwardly opening transversely extending notch means formed in the front end of said body member into which said front end portion of said cover plate extends, the lower edge of said front end portion 10 of said cover plate bottoming in said notch means only after all of the new blades have been ejected from the dispenser.
6. A razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type comprising, a generally rectangular body member character ized by a pair of spaced side walls and a generally horizontal wall disposed below the upper edges of the side walls, said horizontal wall being provided with a longitudinally extending centrally located finger-like portion which is attached at its rear end to said wall and is provided forwardly of its rear end with an upstanding formation whereby to provide a resiliently depressible guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of blades in a stack of new blades supported on said horizontal wall, a floating cover plate which extends over the upper surface of said horizontal wall between said side walls and which is supported on the uppermost blade in said stack of new blades, said cover plate being provided with front and rear end portions which extend downwardly past the front and rear edges of said horizontal wall, said front end portion being provided at its upper edge with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot adapted to permit the forward passage therethrough of the uppermost blade only in the stack of new blades, means for connecting the lower edges of said front and rear end portions of said cover plate to the front and rear edges of said horizontal wall in a manner permitting downward movement of said cover plate under its own weight toward said horizontal wall as the blades are ejected from the dispenser, means defining a centrally located forwardly directed slot in said cover plate which is adapted to accommodate the upper portion of said guide rib, and means in said cover plate facilitating movement of the uppermost blade in the stack outwardly through said exit slot, said guide rib being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction whereby to permit movement therepast of the unslotted rear end portion of a blade being ejected from the dispenser.
7. A razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of a centrally slotted type com prising, a generally rectangular body member characterized by a pair of spaced side walls and a generally horizonal wall disposed below the upper edges of the side walls whereby to define a new blade recess adapted to receive a stack of said new double edge blades, said horizontal wall being provided with a longitudinally extending centrally located finger-like portion which is attached at its rear end to said wall and is provided forwardly of its rear end with an upstanding formation whereby to provide a resiliently depressible guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of said new blades in the stack thereof disposed in said new blade recess, means defining upwardly opening transversely extending notch means in the front end of said body member, a floating cover plate which extends over the upper surface of said horizontal wall between said side walls and is supported on said stack of new blades whereby said cover plate is vertically movable downwardly under its own weight toward said horizontal wall as the new blades are ejected from the dispenser, said cover plate being provided with a front end portion which extends downwardly into said notch means formed in the front end of said body member, which front end portion is provided at its upper edge with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot adapted to permit the forward passage therethrough of the uppermost blade only in the stack of new blades disposed in said new blade recess and at its lower edge with a narrowed rearward extension which extends beneath the front edge of said horizontal Wall of said body member, said cover plate being further provided with a downwardly directed rear end portion having a pair of laterally spaced forwardly directed tabs which extend beneath the rear edge of the horizontal wall of said body memher, said narrowed extension on said front end portion of said cover plate and said tabs on said rear end portion of said cover plate connecting said cover plate to said body member in a manner permitting said downward movement of said cover plate relative thereto, and means defining a centrally located thumb opening in said cover plate whereby to permit frictional engagement of the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades to eject the same from the dispenser through said exit slot, said centrally located thumb opening in said cover plate being provided with a narrow forwardly directed extension which is adapted to accommodate the upper portion of said guide rib, said guide rib having a downwardly inclined rear surface and being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction whereby to permit movement therepast of the unslotted rear end portion of a blade being ejected from the dispenser.
8. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, a body member characterized by a horizontal wall and by side walls which project above and below said horizontal wall, said body member being adapted to have a stack of new centrally slotted blades supported on said horizontal wall, a top cover plate supported on said stack of new blades between the upper portions of said side walls and being progressively movable under its own weight toward said horizontal wall upon each new blade being ejected from the dispenser, said top cover plate being characterized by a downwardly extending rear end portion and by a downwardly extending front end portion which latter portion is provided with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot disposed in alignment with the underside of said top cover plate whereby the uppermost blade in the stack is in alignment with said exit slot, tab-like means on said front and rear end portions of said top cover plate for connecting same to said body member at the front and rear ends of said horizontal wall in a manner permitting relative vertical movement therebetween, a longitudinally extending centrally located finger-like portion attached at its rear end to said horizontal wall and provided forwardly of its rear end with a resiliently depressible upstanding guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of the blades in the stack of new blades and through a slot formed in said top cover plate, a thumb opening formed in said top cover plate permitting frictional engagement of the uppermost blade in the stack whereby to facilitate ejection thereof through said exit slot, said guide rib having a downwardly inclined rear end portion and being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction to permit movement of the unslotted rear end of the uppermost blade over and past said guide rib during ejection thereof from the dispenser, upwardly opening transversely extending notch means formed in the front end of said body member into which said front end portion of said top cover plate extends, the lower edge of said front end portion bottoming in said notch means only after all of the new blades have been ejected from the dispenser, a bottom cover plate attached to said body member between the lower portions of said side walls and spaced beneath said horizontal wall whereby to provide a used blade compartment therebetween, said bottom cover plate having a transversely extending slot formed therein through which used biades may be inserted into said used blade compartment, said bottom cover plate having upwardly extending front and rear end portions, and tab-like means on said front and rear portions of said bottom cover plate for securing same to said body member at the front and rear ends thereof.
9. A razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type comprising a generally rectangular body member characterized by a pair of spaced side walls and a generally horizontal Wall disposed intermediate the upper and lower edges of the side walls whereby to provide an upper new blade recess and a lower used blade recess adjacent opposite snrfacesof said horizontal wall, said horizontal wall being provided with a longitudinally extending centrally located fingerlike portion which is attached at its rear end to said Wall and is provided forwardly of its rear end with an upstanding formation whereby to provide a resiliently depressible guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of blades in a stack of new blades disposed in said new blade recess, a bottom plate disposed between the lower edges of said side walls and beneath said horizontal wall whereby to provide a bottom wall for said used blade recess and having a transversely extending slot formed therein through which used blades may be inserted into said used blade recess, said bottom plate having upstanding front and rear end portions attached to said body member at the front and rear ends thereof, a floating cover plate which extends over the upper surface of said horizontal wall between said side walls and which is movable relatively toward and away from said horizontal wall, which cover plate is supported on the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades disposed in said new blade recess, said cover plate being provided with a downwardly extending rear end portion and a downwardly extending front end portion which latter portion is provided at its upper edge with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot adapted to permit the forward passage therethrough of the uppermost blade only in the stack of new blades disposed in said new blade recess, said front and rear end portions of said cover plate providing front and rear end walls for said new blade recess and having means extending beneath the front and rear edges, respectively, of said horizontal wall whereby to connect said cover plate to said body member in a manner permitting relative vertical movement therebetween, means defining a centrally located forwardly directed slot in said cover plate which is adapted to accommodate the upper portion of said guide rib, and means in said cover plate facilitating advancement of the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades outwardly through said exit slot, said guide rib being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction whereby to permit movement therepast of the unslotted rear end portion of a blade being ejected from the dispenser.
10. A razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of a centrally slotted type comprising, a generally rectangular body member characterized by a pair of spaced side walls and a generally horizontal wall disposed intermediate the upper and lower edges of the side walls whereby to define on opposite surfaces of said horizontal wall an upper new blade recess and a lower used blade recess, said horizontal wall being provided with a longitudinally extending centrally located finger-like portion which is attached at its rear end to said wall and is provided forwardly of its rear end with an upstanding formation whereby to provide a resiliently depressible guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of blades in a stack of new blades disposed in said new blade recess, a bottom cover disposed between said side walls and spaced beneath the underside of said horizontal wall whereby to provide a bottom wall for said used blade recess and having a transversely extending slot formed therein through which used blades may be inserted into said used blade recess, said bottom cover being further characterized by an upwardly directed front end portion having a rearwardly directed flange snapped over the upper front edge of said body member and by an upwardly directed rear end portion having forwardly directed tabs snapped over the central portion of the rear edge of the horizontal wall of said body member, a floating top cover which extends over the upper surface of said horizontal wall between said side walls and which is supported on the stack of new blades disposed in said new blade recess, means defining upwardly opening transversely extending notch means in the front end of said body member, said top cover being provided with a downwardly extending front end portion floatingly received in said notch means and providing a front end wall for said new blade recess, which front end portion is provided at its upper edge with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot adapted to permit the forward passage therethrough of the uppermost blade only in the stack of new blades disposed in said new blade recess and at its lower edge with a narrowed rearwardly directed extension which extends beneath the front edge of said horizontal wall, said top cover being further provided with a downwardly directed rear end portion providing a rear end wall for said new blade recess and having a pair of laterally spaced forwardly directed tabs which extend beneath the rear edge of the horizontal wall of said body member at the opposite ends thereof, said narrowed extension on said front end portion of said top cover and said tabs on said rear end portion of said top cover serving to connect said top cover to said body member in a manner permitting movement thereof toward and away from said horizontal wall, and means defining a centrally located thumb opening in said top cover whereby to permit frictional engagement of the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades to eject same from the dispenser through said exit slot, said centrally located thumb opening in said top cover being provided with a narrow forwardly directed extension adapted to accommodate the upper portion of said guide rib, said guide rib having a downwardly inclined rear surface and being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction whereby to permit movement therepast of the unslotted rear end portion of a blade being ejected from the dispenser.
11. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, a body member characterized by upstanding side walls and a horizontally disposed bottom wall upon which is supported a stack of new centrally slotted blades, a forwardly opening generally U-shaped cover plate adapted to be fitted over said body member from the rear end thereof and being characterized by a fiat upper portion adapted to extend over said stack of blades supported on said bottom wall and by a lower portion adapted to extend beneath said bottom wall, said upper and lower portions of said cover plate being resiliently sprung toward each other whereby said upper portion is resiliently urged downwardly against the uppermost blade in said stack, the forward end of said upper portion of said cover plate being further characterized by a depending front end portion which extends downwardly past the forward edge of said horizontal bottom wall, a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot formed in the upper edge of said front end portion of said cover plate in alignment with the underside of said upper portion of the cover plate whereby said exit slot is at all times aligned with the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades regardless of the number of blades in the stack, a longitudinally extending centrally located finger-like portion attached at its rear end to said bottom wall and provided forwardly of its rear end with a resiliently depressible upstanding guide rib, which rib projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of the blades in the stack of new blades, and means provided in said upper portion of said cover plate facilitating ejection of the uppermost blade in the stack through said exit slot with said upper portion of said cover plate being resiliently urged downwardly upon ejection of each uppermost blade from the dispenser, said guide rib being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction to permit movement of the unslotted rear end portion of the uppermost blade in the stack over and past said guide rib during ejection of the uppermost blade from the dispenser.
12. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, a body member characterized by upstanding side walls and a generally horizontal wall disposed intermediate the upper and lower edges of the side walls upon which is supported a stack of new centrally slotted blades, a forwardly opening generally U-shaped cover plate adapted to be fitted over said body member from the rear end thereof and being characterized by a flat upper portion adapted to extend over said stack of blades supported on said horizontal wall and by a lower portion adapted to extend beneath said horizontal wall, said upper and lower portions of said cover plate being resiliently sprung toward each other whereby said upper portion is resiliently urged downwardly against the uppermost blade in said stack, the forward end of said upper portion of said cover plate being further characterized by a depending front end portion which extends downwardly past the forward edge of said horizontal wall, a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot formed in the upper edge of said front end portion of said cover plate in alignment with the underside of said upper portion of the cover plate whereby said exit slot is at all times aligned with the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades regardless of the number of blades in the stack, a longitudinally extending centrally located cut-out finger-like portion attached at its rear end to said horizontal wall and provided forwardly of its rear end with a resiliently depressible upstanding guide rib, which rib projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of the blades in the stack of new blades, means provided in said upper portion of said cover plate facilitating ejection of the uppermost blade in the stack through said exit slot with said upper portion of said cover plate being resiliently urged downwardly upon ejection of each uppermost blade from the dispenser, said guide rib being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction to permit movement of the unslotted rear end portion of the uppermost blade in the stack over and past said guide rib during ejection of the uppermost blade from the dispenser, a bottom plate disposed between the lower portions of said side walls and spaced below said horizontal wall whereby to provide a used blade compartment, said bottom plate having a transversely extending slot formed therein through which used blades may be inserted into said used blade compartment, and upstanding means at the front and rear ends of said bottom plate for rigidly connecting same to said body member at the front and rear ends thereof.
13. A razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type comprising, a generally rectangular body member characterized by a pair of spaced side walls and a generally horizontal wall disposed below the upper edges of the side walls, said horizontal wall being provided with a longitudinally extending centrally located cut-out finger-like portion which is attached at its rear end to said wall and is provided forwardly of its rear end with an upstanding formation whereby to provide a resiliently depressible guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of blades in a stack of new blades supported on said horizontal wall, a forwardly opening generally U- shaped cover plate having upper and lower portions resiliently sprung toward each other, said cover plate being fitted over said body member from the rear end thereof with the upper portion flexed away from said lower portion and extending over said stack of blades supported on said horizontal wall and with said lower portion extending beneath said horizontal wall, whereby said upper portion is resiliently urged downwardly against the uppermost blade in said stack of new blades, said upper portion of said cover plate being provided at its forward end with a depending front end portion which extends downwardly past the forward edge of said horizontal wall, a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot formed in the upper edge of said front end portion and adapted to permit the forward passage therethrough of the uppermost blade only in the stack of new blades, and a centrally located thumb opening in the upper portion of said cover plate whereby to permit frictional engagement of the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades to eject same from the dispenser through said exit slot, said guide rib being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction whereby to permit movement therepast of the unslotted rear end portion of a blade being ejected from the dispenser and said upper portion of said cover plate being resiliently urged downwardly relative to said body member upon ejection of each blade from the dispenser.
14. A razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double blades of a centrally slotted type comprising, a generally rectangular body member characterized by a pair of spaced side Walls and a generally horizontal bottom wall disposed therebetween, said bottom wall being provided with a longitudinally extending centrally located cut-out finger-like portion which is attached at its rear end to said wall and is provided forwardly of its rear end with an upstanding formation whereby to provide a resiliently depressible guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of blades in a stack of new blades supported on said bottom wall, a forwardly opening generally U-shaped cover plate having a generally fiat upper portion, a rear end portion extending downwardly from the rear edge of said upper portion, and a lower portion characterized by a pair of laterally spaced finger portions extending forwardly from the lower edge of said rear end portion and by a cross bar interconnecting the forward ends of said finger portions with said upper and lower portions of said cover plate being resiliently sprung toward each other, said cover plate being fitted over said body member from the rear end thereof with said upper portion flexed away from said lower portion and extending over said stack of blades supported on said bottom wall and with said lower portion extending beneath said bottom wall, whereby said upper portion is resiliently urged downwardly against the uppermost blade in said stack and said cross bar of said lower portion is resiliently urged upwardly toward the underside of said bottom wall, means defining upwardly opening transversely extending notch means in the front end of said body member, said upper portion of said cover plate having a depending front end portion which x ends downwardly into said notch means and is provided at its upper edge with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot adapted to permit the forward passage therethrough of the uppermost blade only in said stack of new blades and at its lower edge with a narrow rearwardlly directed extension which extends beneath the front edge of said bottom wall, and means defining a centrally located thumb opening in said upper portion of said cover plate whereby to permit frictional engagement of the uppermost blade in said stack of new blades to eject same from the dispenser through said exit slot, said upper portion of said cover plate being resiliently urged downwardly upon ejection of each uppermost blade from the dispenser, said centrally located thumb opening being characterized by a narrow forwardly directed extension slot adapted to accommodate the upper portion of said guide rib, and said guide rib having a downwardly and rearwardly inclined upper edge surface and being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction whereby to permit movement therepast of the unslotted rear end portion of a blade being ejected from the dispenser.
15. A razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of a centrally slotted type comprising, a generally rectangular body member characterized by a pair of spaced side walls and a generally horizontal wall disposed intermediate the upper and lower edges of the side walls, said horizontal wall being provided with a longitudinally extending centrally located cut-out fingerlike portion which is attached at its rear end to said Wall and is provided forwardly of its rear end with an upstanding formation whereby to provide a resiliently depressible guide rib which projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of blades in a stack of new blades supported on said horizontal wall, a pair of rib members depending from the underside of said horizontal wall and extending forwardly from the rear edge thereof in laterally spaced apart relationship with each rib being disposed closely adjacent to one of said side walls, a bottom cover disposed between said side walls and spaced below the underside of said horizontal wall whereby to define therewith a used blade compartment and having a transversely extending slot formed therein through which used blades may be inserted into said used blade compartment, said bottom cover being further characterized by an upwardly directed front end portion having a rearwardly directed flange fitted over the upper front edge of said body member and by an upwardly directed rear end portion having cut-away upper corners and forwardly directed tabs on its upper edge which are fitted over the rear edge of the horizontal wall of said body member inwardly of the opposite ends thereof, a forwardly opening generally U-shaped cover plate having a generally fiat upper portion, a rear end portion extending downwardly from the rear edge of said upper portion, and a lower portion characterized by a pair of laterally spaced finger portions extending forwardly from the lower edge of said rear end portion and by a cross bar interconnecting the forward ends of said finger portions with said upper and lower portions of said cover plate being resiliently sprung toward each other, said cover plate being fitted over said body member from the rear end thereof prior to assembly of said bottom plate thereon with said upper portion fiexed away from said lower portion and extending over said stack of blades supported on said horizontal wall and with said lower portion extending beneath said horizontal wall with said finger portions thereof being vertically aligned with said pair of rib members depending therefrom, whereby said upper portion is resiliently urged downwardly against the uppermost blade in said stack and said cross bar of said lower portion is resiliently urged upwardly against the bottom edges of said pair of rib members, means defining upwardly opening transversely extending notch means in the front end of said body member, said upper portion of said cover plate having a depending front end portion which extends downwardly into said notch means and is provided at its upper edge with a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot adapted to permit the forward passage therethrough of the uppermost blade only in said stack of new blades andat its lower edge with a narrowed rearwardly directed extension which extends beneath the front edge of said horizontal wall, and means defining a centrally located thumb opening in said upper portion of said cover plate whereby to permit frictional engagement of the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades to eject same from the dispenser through said exit slot, said upper portion of said cover plate being resiliently urged downwardly upon ejection of each uppermost blade from the dispenser, said centrally located thumb opening being characterized by a narrow forwardly directed extension slot adapted to accommodate the upper portion of said guide rib, and said guide rib having a downwardly and rearwardly inclined upper edge surface and being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction whereby to permit movement therepast of the unslotted rear end portion of a blade being ejected from the dispenser.
16. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, a body member of plastic material characterized by upstanding side walls and a horizontally disposed bottom wall upon which is supported a stack of new centrally slotted blades, a structurally separate cover plate of relatively thin sheet material which is movable vertically with respect to said bottom wall, said cover plate being supported on the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades between said upstanding side walls of said body member and having a depending front end portion, a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot formed in the upper edge of said front end portion of said cover plate in horizon tal alignment with the underside of the cover plate whereby said exit slot is at all times aligned with the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades regardless of the number of blades remaining in the stack, a longitudinally extending centrally located finger-like portion attached at its rear end to said bottom wall and provided forwardly of its rear end with a resiliently depressible upstanding guide rib, which rib projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portions of the blades in the stack of new blades, means for limiting vertical movement of the cover plate away from the bottom wall, and means provided in said cover plate facilitating ejection of the uppermost blade in the stack through said exit slot, said cover plate being movable bodily and progressively downward toward said bottom wall of said body member as the blades are ejected, and said guide rib being resiliently yieldable in a downward direction with respect to the bottom wall of the body member to permit movement of the unslotted rear end portion of the uppermost blade in the stack over and past said guide rib during ejection of the uppermost blade from the dispenser.
17. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type one at a time from the top of a stack of such blades, a body member of plastic material having a bottom wall on which a stack of the blades is positioned, a structurally separate cover plate of relatively thin sheet material for the body member, which cover plate rests upon and is supported by the uppermost blade in the stack and is movable bodily and progressively downward toward the bottom wall of the body member as the height of the stack of blades positioned on the bottom wall is progressively reduced by the removal of blades from the stack, clearance means associated with the front end of the cover plate for permitting the uppermost blade in the stack to be moved forwardly along and in engagement with the underside of the cover plate and ejected from the front end of the dispenser, means associated with the cover plate rearwardly of said clearance means for facilitating the forward movement and ejection of the uppermost blade, and means associated with the body member rearwardly of the front end of the latter for centering the stack of blades and guiding the uppermost blade during its forward movement.
18. In a razor blade dispenser for use in dispensing double edge blades of the centrally slotted type, a body member of plastic material characterized by upstanding side walls and a horizontally disposed bottom wall upon which is supported a stack of new centrally slotted blades, a structurally separate cover plate of relatively thin sheet material which rests flatly upon the stack of blades and is movable bodily and progressively downward toward said bottom wall as the number of blades in the stack beneath the same is reduced, said cover plate being supported on the uppermost blade in the stack between said upstanding side Walls of said body member and being provided with a depending front end portion, a forwardly directed transversely extending exit slot formed in the upper edge of said front end portion of said cover plate in horizontal alignment with the underside of the cover plate whereby said exit slot is at all times aligned with the uppermost blade in the stack of new blades regardless of the number of blades remaining in the stack, a longitudinally extending centrally located blade guiding rib on said bottom wall, which rib projects upwardly through the centrally slotted portion of the blades in the stack and is resiliently yieldable, and means associated with the cover plate for facilitating forward movement and ejection of the uppermost blade in the stack through said exit slot, said guide rib being yieldable in a downward direction with respect to the bottom wall of the body member to permit forward movement of the unslotted rear end portion of the uppermost blade beneath the cover plate over and past said rib during ejection of the uppermost blade.

1. IN A RAZOR BLADE DISPENSER FOR USE IN DISPENSING DOUBLE EDGE BLADES OF THE CENTRALLY SLOTTED TYPE, A BODY MEMBER CHARACTERIZED BY UPSTANDING SIDE WALLS AND A HORIZONTALLY DISPOSED BOTTOM WALL UPON WHICH IS SUPPORTED A STACK OF NEW CENTRALLY SLOTTED BLADES, A COVER PLATE WHICH IS SUPPORTED ON THE UPPERMOST BLADE IN SAID STACK OF NEW BLADES BETWEEN SAID UPSTANDING SIDE WALLS OF SAID BODY MEMBER AND WHICH IS MOUNTED ON SAID BODY MEMBER IN A MANNER WHEREBY SAID COVER PLATE IS PROGRESSIVELY MOVABLE DOWNWARDLY TOWARD SAID BOTTOM WALL OF SAID BODY MEMBER AS EACH BLADE IS EJECTED FROM THE DISPENSER, SAID COVER PLATE HAVING A DEPENDING FRONT END PORTION PROVIDED WITH A FORWARDLY DIRECTED TRANSVERSELY EXTENDING EXIT SLOT IN ITS UPPER EDGE IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE UNDERSIDE OF THE COVER PLATE WHEREBY SAID EXIT SLOT IS AT ALL TIMES ALIGNED WITH THE UPPERMOST BLADE IN THE STACK OF NEW BLADES REGARDLESS OF THE NUMBER OF BLADES IN THE STACK, A LONGITUDINALLY EXTENDING CENTRALLY LOCATED FINGERLIKE PORTION ATTACHED AT ITS REAR END TO SAID BOTTOM WALL AND PROVIDED FORWARDLY OF ITS REAR END WITH A RESILIENTLY DEPRESSIBLE UPSTANDING GUIDE RIB, WHICH RIB PROJECTS UPWARDLY THROUGH THE CENTRALLY SLOTTED PORTIONS OF THE BLADES IN THE STACK OF NEW BLADES, AND MEANS PROVIDED IN SAID COVER PLATE FACILITATING EJECTION OF THE UPPERMOST BLADE IN THE STACK THROUGH SAID EXIT SLOT WITH SAID COVER PLATE BEING MOVABLE PROGRESSIVELY TOWARD SAID BOTTOM WALL OF SAID BODY MEMBER AS THE BLADES ARE EJECTED, SAID GUIDE RIB BEING RESILIENTLY YIELDABLE IN A DOWNWARD DIRECTION TO PERMIT MOVEMENT OF THE UNSLOTTED REAR END PORTION OF THE UPPERMOST BLADE IN THE STACK OVER AND PAST SAID GUIDE RIB DURING EJECTION OF THE UPPERMOST BLADE FROM THE DISPENSER.
