1 Claim. (til. 15m-Sal) The object of the present invention is to provide a liquid dispenser with applicator of such form as to be useful in the application of many tluid preparations, including those which have highly volatile solvents, as for example spot and stain removers, adhesives, liquid shoe polishes, pharmaceutical materials for application to the skin, etc. The invention is such that the applicator may be of widely different material, including, among others, cotton, wool, sponge balls, and those of syntietic materials, various fabrics, swabs and brushes. Also, the body of the conrainer element may be of glass, plastic or other suitable material. The control of volatile solvents is effected by a valve assembly which includes a valve stem directly carrying or engaging the applicator method.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a view in elevation of a fluid container shown in vertical section at its top and which includes a cap for the container, and a valve and applicator assembly in accordance with a non-elected embodiment of the invention, the container to be made of plastic or other deformable material.
FlG. 2 is a view of a nonelected embodiment in which the bottle will be made of glass or other hard material, the vertical section being throughthe valve and applicator assembly, which is modified with respect to that of FIG. l.
FIG. 3 is a view of the preferred embodiment similar to FIG. 2 showing the valve assembly and a brush applicator applied to glass or similar bottle.
FIG. 4 is a vertical section through a non-elected modified form of valve body applied to a glass or other hard container, the valve body being shown in section.
ln FIGS. 2, 3 and 4, the container itself is shown as broken away.
Referrin7 to FlG. 1, the container 1 will be of plastic or other deformable material, is shown as formed with a threadlike bead 2 (and several threads may be substituted therefor for receiving a removable cap 3. rThe container is formed with a sleeve 4, into which is positioned a valve head 5 having at its lower end a conical seat, which is the lower end of an aperture formed through the valve head. The aperture receives a valve stem o having its lower end shaped to fit said seat. The aperture through the valve head, indicated at '7, is formed with a shoulder at E5, against which the lower end of a coiled spring 9 rests. The valve stem carries an abutment 1d, which receives the pressure of spring 9 to normally hold valve closing element 6X in closed position. Carried by valve stem 6 is an applicator indicated at 11 which may be in any suitable form as hereinbefore specified.
By inverting container l, and pushing down on the valve stem via the applicator, fluid from the container will pass through the valve head aperture 7 and onto the applicator. 1n HG. 2, the container 12 may be considered as made ot glass or other hard material, the neck of which is provided with a channel at 14. The same general type of valve head is employed as that of FlG. l, the valve head in FG. 2 being indicated at l5. Also, the valve head is similarly formed with a valve closing element 16 on stem 17, which is engaged by a spring 18 acting against an abutment 19 on the stem. At the top of the valve head is positioned an applicator 29, which may be of pile fabric or any suitable absorbent sheet. The valve head is Patented Feb. i8, M9541.
Pice
formed with an annular channel, and the applicator is preferably held in place by a springy wire element 2l in said channe In FlG. 2 the valve assembly and applicator are held in position on the container by a plastic sleeve 22. With the plastic in deformable condition, it may be swaged to conform with the contours of the valve head, and to be seated in the channel ld of the container.
ln the structure of FIG. 3, the container 24 may be oi glass or other hard material, and the valve head 25 may have applied thereto a sleeve 26 of plastic or other deformable material. The valve stem and spring arrangement is that of the preceding figures, except that the valve stem is formed with an aperture running down from its top, into which a brush carrying ferrule 27, formed with a post Zx, is held. The sleeve 25 being resilient can be pressed into position, so that its annular bead 28 will be into an annular channel shown as formed in the neck of container 24.
rEhe valve head in FGURES l, 2 and 3 may be formed of any suitable material, either hard or yielding. In FiG. 4, however, the valve head is made of a yielding material, neoprene being a suitable example, so that it will not require an encircling sleeve. Its container engaging base is preferably formed to be inserted into the neck of a container, such as glass or the like, and the assembly will have coacting mutually receiving bead and channel formations as to the neck of the container and the base of the valve head. In the embodiment shown, the valve head 3i), at its lower end, is formed with an annular bead 31 adapted to be snapped into an annular channel at 32 in the neck of the container, the valve stem 33 carries a valve closing element 34, and the stem also carries an abutment 35 engaged by spring 36, to normally hold the valve in closed position. The upper end 33X of the valve stem may carry any suitable form of applicator.
lt will be understood that various modications may be made in the form and arrangement of the elements constituting the embodiments illustrated in the drawings, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
A liquid dispenser with applicator, comprising a container having applied thereto at its upper area a deformable plastic sleeve, a relatively rigid valve head member within said sleeve and exposed at its outer end face, said valve head member having an axial passageway provided with a lowermost shoulder, annularly formed around the passageway, said passageway being increased in diameter substantially above said shoulder to provide a springreceiving chamber having an annular shoulder at its lower end, a Valve stem in said passageway and carrying at its lower end a closing element for the lowermost shouldercarrying passageway, a spring encircling the valve stem and located in said spring-receiving chamber, an abutment carried by the valve stem above such spring, an applicator carried by the valve stem outwardly of and abutting said abutment member, an annular channel carried by the valve head, and an area of the sleeve depressed into said channel, thereby locking the valve head into the sleeve.
