Filed Dec. 26, 1962, Ser. No. 246,999 3 Claims. (ci. 15o-1) This invention relates to utility bags and more specifically to closed door-supported utility bags.
One object of the present invention is to provide a utility bag for use principally in closets or the like, having means for supporting a plurality of items such as shoes, stockings and other units of wear.
Another object of the present invention isl to provide a utility bag comprised of a plurality of elements and wherein the elements may be affixed to a door of a closet or the like for supporting the device in an upstandmg vertical manner.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a utility bag comprising a plurality of pocket elements which are selectively removably attached in adjustable position and which can be conveniently removed for purpose of cleaning.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a utility bag wherein the pocket elements are supported upon a pair of strap elements by means of snapon fasteners.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a utility bag bearing the above Objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE l is a perspective view of a utility bag cornprising the present invention shown supported upon a door panel;
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged front elevational view showing one of the support strap elements which comprise a part of the present invention;
FIGURE 3 is a side edge elevational View of the support strap illustrated in FIGURE 2;
FIGURE 4 is a fragmentary front elevational view of one of the bags shown partly broken away; and
FIGURE 5 is a bottom plan view of one of the straps shown after being cut for purpose of supporting fewer bag elements.
Referring now to the drawing in detail the numeral represents a snap-on utility bag according to the present invention wherein there are a pair of vertically extending support strap elements 11 and a plurality of bag elements 12, each of the support straps being comprised of a strip of material 13 made of any suitable material which is of strong nature to support a weight such as may be contained within the various bags supported thereupon and which includes a plurality of snap fastener elements I4 and 1S, the snap fastener elements being arranged in linear spaced apart configuration.
It is to be noted that the snap fasteners 14 comprise the male members and snap fastener elements 1S comprise the female members and these members are arranged upon the strap in alternate pairs throughout the length of the strap. The bag elements 12 are comprised of front panels 16 and rear panels i7 connected at their lower edges 18 to form pockets 19 and 20 in sidewardly adjacent relationship. The upper edge 21 of the front panel 16 is hemmed over to form a longitudinal pocket enclosing therewithin a transverse elastic 22 as shown in FIGURE l of the drawing. This edge may be shirred allowing expansion of the mouth of the pocket in order v3,ll5,773 Patented `lan. 7, 1964 ICC to provide easy access for placing therein or removing therefrom an item of wear or the like. `The bag element may be modified in construction to include a pair of auxiliary pockets 23 of relatively smaller dimension which are affixed to the front side ld of the bag element. Such pockets could be comprised of a panel 24 which is attached at its lower edge 25 and side edges 26 to the front panel lr6 and being left unattached along its upper edge 27 wherein the edge may be shirred and made to include a hemmed slot to receive therein an elastic in like manner as described above for bag element 12. It is to be noted that rear panels 17 of the bag elements are provided at each opposite vertical edge with a plurality of snap fastener elements in vertically longitudinal arrangement to correspond with the snap fastener elements upon each of the support straps thereby permitting ready attachment of the bag element to the support strap elements. It is to be noted that the upper and lower ends of each support strap is folded over as shown at 28 and 29 thereby providing substantial strength at the terminal ends. Each of the support straps is attached in vertical spaced apart arrangement to a door panel 30 by means to screws or the like 31.
In operative use, when it is desired to locate any of the bag elements they can be attached to the support strap at a higher or lower position, as desired, and the bag elements may be readily detached from the support straps for the purpose of cleaning or other uses.
Thus, there has been shown a snap-on utility bag which can be readily attached to a door panel or the like and which includes a plurality of bag elements, each of which can be detachably attached in any position and which can be removed for purpose of cleaning or the like.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction it shall be understood that such changes' shall be Within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. In a utility bag, the combination of a plurality of support elements and a plurality of supported elements said support elements comprising a pair of support straps and said supported elements comprising a pair of bag elements, each of said support straps comprising a body element of generally longitudinal character and having a plurality of snap fastener elements in linear arrangement in spaced apart relationship, said snap fastener elements comprising male snap fastener elements and female snap fastener elements, said male and said female snap fastener elements being arranged in pairs adjacent each other, and each alternate pair of snap fastener elements being male and female, and each of said support strap elements being folded over at its upper and lower edges and retained by means of a single grommet.

In a utility bag the combination as set forth in claim l, wherein each of said bag elements comprises a rear panel, a front panel, said rear panel being atliXed along its lower edge to the lower edge of said front panel forming a pocket, said pocket being open along its upper edge, the upper edge of said front panel being shirred and hemmed over to form a longitudinal slot for receiving therethrough an elastic to provide convenient size openings of said opening to said pocket and said rear panel having `at each opposite vertical side edge a plurality of snap fastener elements in spaced apart relationship to align selectively with certain of said snap fastener elements in each of said support straps.

In a utility bag the combination as set forth in claim 2, wherein said bag element is' provided with an auxiliary pocket on its front panel, said auxiliary pocket being of relatively smaller dimension, said auxiliary pocket being comprised of a singular front panel axed at its lower edge and opposite side edges to said front panel of said bag element, the upper edge of said auxiliary pocket of said front panel being shirred and having a longitudinal hemmed slot to receive an elastic there- 5 through.

Claims (1)

1. IN A UTILITY BAG, THE COMBINATION OF A PLURALITY OF SUPPORT ELEMENTS AND A PLURALITY OF SUPPORTED ELEMENTS SAID SUPPORT ELEMENTS COMPRISING A PAIR OF SUPPORT STRAPS AND SAID SUPPORTED ELEMENTS COMPRISING A PAIR OF BAG ELEMENTS, EACH OF SAID SUPPORT STRAPS COMPRISING A BODY ELEMENT OF GENERALLY LONGITUDINAL CHARACTER AND HAVING A PLURALITY OF SNAP FASTENER ELEMENTS IN LINEAR ARRANGEMENT IN SPACED APART RELATIONSHIP, SAID SNAP FASTENER ELEMENTS COMPRISING MALE SNAP FASTENER ELEMENTS AND FEMALE SNAP FASTENER ELEMENTS, SAID MALE AND SAID FEMALE SNAP FASTENER ELEMENTS BEING ARRANGED IN PAIRS ADJACENT EACH OTHER,
