- WASH BASIN Filed Dec. 15, 1961 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 lNl/ENTOA ALFRED HERZOG ATTORNEYS United States Patent 3,108,288 WASH BASIN Alfred Herzog, Hohenheimerstrasse 93, Stuttgart, Germany Filed Dec. 13, 1961, Ser. No. 159,061 Claims priority, application Germany Dec. 29, 1960 2 Claims. (Cl. 4-159) This invention relates in general to wash or shampoo basin construction and in particular to a new and useful wash basin unit having a plurality of cutout portions for accommodating the neck of a person for rearward washing of a persons hair or head.

The invention is particularly applicable for use in beauty parlors, barber shops, and similar places for rearward shampooing in which instance a person sitting in an adjustable barber chair is positioned so that his neck rests at the edge of the basin or unit while his hair is shampooed.

The present invention is an improvement in basin constructions of this nature particularly in respect to a construction which includes a basin unit having two or more neck cutouts arranged on the periphery of the unit to accommodate at several distinct locations the neck of an individual who is to be shampooed, or which can be arranged in a servicing position for more than one adjustable chair.

In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a basin unit is provided which is adapted to be mounted at a partition wall dividing two beauty parlor compartments. The unit includes a rear wall portion which extends outwardly from each side of the partition wall into each of the compartments, with the areas in each compartment including a neck cutout which is angled toward the normal position of the barber chair which accommodates the customer. The single basin unit can be used regardless of which of the two compartments a customer is seated in association with the chair of the selected compartment.

The basin advantageously includes a central water connection with the usual hand valves and spray pipes which can be easily manipulated by an operator facing the basin and the customer whose neck is positioned on the recessed cutout of the basin with his hair overlying the basin bowl.

The invention is equally applicable in an embodiment which includes simple rounded or rectangular basin constructions, as well as a duplex type of basin unit which includes two bowl portions, one associated with each neck cutout. When two bowls are employed each is disposed for easy operation in the associated treatment rooms or compartments.

Accordingly, it is an object of this invention to provide a basin or table construction having two or more neck recesses provided for placing the neck of an individual.

A further object of the invention is to provide a basin construction adapted to be mounted centrally in respect to a partition wall dividing treatment compartments which have connections adjacent the treatment wall for the water supply for the basin, the basin including portions extending into the adjacent compartments each portion including at least one neck recess for accommodating the neck of a person located in this compartment.

A further object of the invention is to provide a treatment parlor arrangement for the rearward washing of a customers head or hair which includes treatment compartments divided by a compartment wall, and a basin located on the wall and furnished with a liquid for spraying purposes at the location of such wall, the basin including portions extending outwardly from the partition wall into each of the compartments, the portions of the basin including recessed neck areas to accommodate the neck of a person for rearward washing from each of the compartments.

A further object of the invention is to provide a basin construction which is simple in design, rugged in construction and economical to manufacture. I

The various features of novelty which characterize the invention are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this specification. For a better understanding of the invention, its operating advantages and specific objects attained by its use, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which there is illustrated and described preferred embodiments of the invention; 7

In the drawings:

FIG. 1 is a plan of a basin constructed and mounted on a central partition wall dividing two beauty treatment compartments constructed in accordance with the invention;

FIG. 2 is a section taken on the lines AA of FIG. 1 and FIG. 9;

FIG. 3 is a top plan of a basin acccording to another embodiment of the invention;

.FIG. 4 is a section taken on the lines B--B of FIGS. 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8;

FIG. 5 is a top plan view of another embodiment of the invention;

FIG. 6 is a top plan of still another embodiment of the invention;

FIG. 7 is a top plan view of still another embodiment of the invention;

FIG. 8 is a top plan view of still another embodiment of the invention; and

FIG. 9 is a top plan view of still another embodiment of the invention.

Referring to the drawings in particular, the invention embodied therein in FIG. 1 includes a device for the rearward washing of the head of a person such as a table or wash basin generally designated 20 which includes a substantially straight-backed wall portion 22 which is disposed substantially perpendicular to a dividing wall 6 which, in turn, has sides 24 and 26 which front into adjacent compartments of a beauty salon.

In accordance with the invention, the basin 20 is supplied with water from a central water supply located at the partition wall 6 and liquid may be directed outwardly through an adjustable spray nozzle 8 under the control of hot and cold valves 7. A drain 5 is also connected to a waste line (not shown) which is located adjacent the wall partition 6.

A feature of the basin 20 construction is the provision of rear walls which extend outwardly in opposite directions from the partition wall 6 and are angled inwardly to form neck portions 3, in each of the compartments which are associated with the basin. The neck portions 3 are advantageously located and formed to be in a position to receive the neck of a person located in the associated compartment. The persons neck may be positioned on the cutouts 3 such as by swinging a barber chair (not shown) so that its axis will align with the axis formed by the center of an associated neck portion 3.

In the embodiment indicated in FIG. 1 only a single enlarged basin 1 is provided with a plurality of neck recesses 3 which extend into the various compartments. In this embodiment the neck portions are formed by upwardly directed flanges or vane-like members 4 to facilitate the proper reception of a persons neck for the washing of his head or hair. In this construction the basin includes a somewhat rounded front wall 28 and a substantially vertical rear wall 34). An upstanding lip or rounded edge 2 is defined around the periphery of the basin.

In FIG. 3 the invention is shown with similar water and drain connections, but a rounded basin 1 having an angular rounded rim or lip 2'. In this embodiment neck 3 recesses 3' are formed as rounded cutouts and the basin 1 advantageously includes substantially vertical front wall 28' as well as a substantially vertical rear wall 30 as indicated in FIG. 4. The center lines of the neck cutouts -3' are substantially 90 apart.

In FIG. 5 a basin 32 is formed which includes the identical arrangement for the drain 5, spray 8 and valve 7 on a partition wall 6'. Both a basin 32 and a rim 2" are rectangular in outline and neck portions 3" are formed in the adjacent rear wall portions of the basin.

In FIG. 6, a basin is formed similar to that indicated in FIG. 5 comprising a rim portion 2" which includes a rounded central portion surrounding a rounded basin 34.

In FIGS. 7, 8 and 9, there are indicated duplex basin units generally designated 36, 38 and 40 which compare with the individual basin configurations of FIGS. 3, 5 and 1, respectively. In these embodiments, however, individual basins 42 and 44 are formed in the unit 36, individual basins 46 and 48 are formed in the unit 38 and individual basins 50 and 52 are'formed in the unit 40. Both of the individual basins of the units are served by the single spray 8 which may be pivoted between one or the other and the water exiting therefrom is controlled by the valve control 7. Each of these embodiments include neck cutouts 63 which compare to the neck cutouts of the previous embodiments and the embodiment in FIG. 9 includes the winged portions 64 which compare to the winged portions 4 of FIG. 1. Rim portion 62, 62' and 62" of FIGS. 7, 8 and 9, respectively, vary as indicated in the drawings in respect to the circular, rectangular and configurational outlines shown.

While specific embodiments of the invention have been shown and described in detail to illustrate the application of the invention principles, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied otherwise without departing from such principles.

What is claimed is:
