SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 309,4:19, dated December 16, 1884.
Application filed Felnnary 14, 1884. (X0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR TnoMrsoN, of \Varncr, in the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvemehtin FruihDriers,
of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a sectional side elevation of my improvement, taken through the line 00 .r, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a sectional front elevation of the same, taken through the line y y, Fig. 1.
My invention relates to improvements in that class of fruit-driers in which the fruittrays are supported between revolving wheels in a suitable casing; and it consists in thepcculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
A represents the case, which is made cylindrical, and with a rectangular part or flue, B, on its lower side, leading down to a furnace or other air-heater.
Through the center of the cylindrical case A passes a shaft, 0, which revolves in been ings in the vertical sides of the said case A.
To the shaft 0, at the inner sides of the vertical walls of the case A, are rigidly attached two wheels, I), or series of radial arms, to which are attached inwardly-proj ecting pins E.
From each pin E of each wheel 1) is suspended a vertical plate or frame, F, which is connected at its lower end by a rod, G, with the corresponding plate or frame of the other wheel, each pair of plates, or frames F and their connecting-rod forming a tray-holder.
To the inner sides of the plates or frames F are attached or upon them are formed four (more or less) cleats, H, to receive and support the trays that contain the fruit to be dried.
Upon the ends of the cleats H are formed lips I, to preventthctrays from slipping out of place while the wheels 1) are being revolved.
From the shaft 0, between the wheels D, is suspended a semi-cylindrical drum, J, which serves as a deflector, to prevent the hot air from passing up through the middle part of the drier, and cause it to pass up along the curved sides of the case A,so as to pass through the fruit. The shaft 0 can be turned to re volve the wheels D and tray-holder F G by a crank, K, attached to the end of the said shaft, as shown in Fig. 2, or by any other suitable means. In the top of the case is formed an opening, L, surrounded by a flue, M, to allow the moist air to escape.
In one side of the case Ais formed an opening, N, through which the fruit-trays can be put in and taken out, and which is closed by a door, 0.
I am aware that a fruit-drier provided with revolving shelves is not broadly new; and I am also aware that deflecting-plates have been employed in fruit-driers, and, therefore, do not claim such inventions.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to seen re by Letters Patent- In a fruit-drier, the combinatiomwith the circular case A, the shaft G, the wheels D, and the tray-holders F G, of the suspended semicylindrical deflector J, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the ascending hot air will be detlccted toward the curved walls of the case and made to pass up through the revolving travholders, as set forth.
ARTHUR THOMPSON.
