PETER LT. PEFLEY, on BOISE CITY, IDAHO TERRITORY.
SADDLE=GIRTPL SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 308,983, dated December 9, 1884;
Application filed May 16, 1884. (No model.)
2 all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PETER J. PEFLEY, of
j Boise City, Ada county, Idaho Territory, have loops in leather or sheet-metal pieces held on the centers of the bands, whereby the bands can be held a greater or less distance or from each other.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Sllll ilar letters of rel'e rence in dicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved saddle-girth. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal view of the braee-bar in the girth.
Two bands or straps, A, are secured at their ends to two leather pieces, B, in which rings 0 are held. On the middle of each band or strap A a piece, D, of leather or sheet metal, is fastened, each of which is provided with two rows of loops or eyes, 1* the said rows of loops being transversely to the straps A, the corresponding loops of the two rows being in line. Narrow straps G, resting on the top of the bands or straps A, have their ends secured on the pieces B, and are provided with buckles H. A metal, wooden, or hard-rubber bracebar, J, is provided at each end with a flat loop,K, through which the strap G can be passed freely, the said brace-bar being bent slightly at the middle. The loops K of the brace-bar J are placed between two loops, E, of the piece D, and the straps G are passed through the corresponding cyesor loops, E,
an d the loops K in the ends of the brace, and are then drawn taut. The brace-bar is thus held on the bands or straps A, and holds them separated the desired distance. 1f the bands or straps A are to be held close together, the eyes K are held, between the outer end edges or loops, E, of each row. It the bands or straps are to be held nearer each other, the eyes or loops K are held between the middle eyes or loops, E; and if the bands or the straps are to be held nearer yet, the loops or eyes K are placed between the inner end loops or eyes,
E, of each row. The brace-bar J is bent so as not to come in contact with and chafe the animals belly. If the belly-is very large and prominent, the straps A must be held as far apart as possible, and in a like manner the straps A must always be adjusted according to the formation of the animals belly, so as to fit well on the same.
I Having thus described my invention, I claim 5 as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a sznhlle-girth, the combination, with the straps or bands A and the end pieces, B, of a transverse brace-bar held on the said bands or straps at the centers of the same, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a saddle-girth, the combination, with thestraps or hands A and the end pieces, B of the leather or sheet-metal pieces D, having loops or eyes 13, the straps G, held on the bands, and of the brace J having loops K on i ends, substantially as herein shown and de scribed.
3. In a saddle-girth, the combination, with the straps or bands Aand the end pieces, .13, of the leather or sheet-1netal pieces D, having rows of loops or eyes, the straps'secured on the ends of the straps A and having buckles H, and the curved brace J having loops K at the ends, substantially as herein shown and described.
PETER J IEFLEY. \Vitnesses:
LEONARD LOGAN, IIAR-LEN PEFLEY.
