Be it known that I, J OHN D'. REED, of York, in the countyYork' and State of Nebraska, have invented anew and Improved Electro-Magnetic Gar-Unco'u'pler', of which the {ollowing isa full, clear, and exact descrip- 1on. l .The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device for uncoupling cars by electricity, whereby any desired car can be uncoupled bya person on the locomotive. f f The invention consists in a caruncoupling device adapted to be operated by electricity. The invention further consists in the combi-' nation, with a car, of a pivoted shackle onthe draw-head, an electro-magnet for operating the shackle, conductors for conducting the electricity to the electro magnets, contactstrips on the ends of the cars for uniting the conductorsof. the several cars, and in numerone parts and details and combinationsof the same, as will be fully set forth and described hereinafter.
