PORTABLE REVOLVING BEAK-HORN SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 308,084, dated November 18, 1884. Application filed April 9, 1884. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD MANSFIELD, of Orono, in the county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Revolving Beak Horns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, that will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accoin-' panying drawings,forming a part of this specifieation.

My invention consists ofa portable beakhorn for blacksmiths use, which is so constructed as to have several differently-shaped horns attached to or cast or formed integral with one common cylindrical or other shaped stand or trunk, which stand is so attached to a base as to revolve freely upon it.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an elevation or front view of my invention, in which the stand or trunk A is shown partly broken away to show more distinctly the construction. Fig. 2 is a top view or plan of my invention. 0. Fig. 4. is a side view of the horn E.

In said drawings similar letters refer to corresponding parts.

A is the trunk or stem. 13 is a base. 0 D E 1 are variously-shaped horns. G is a screwbolt by which the trunk is attached to the base. H is a male half of a coupling. I is a female part of the coupling.

In construction I provide a base, 13, of any desirable shape, but preferably circular, and large enough to give a good bearing in proportion to the height and size of the stand or trunk. On the base I form a male part, H, of a coupling, H 1, extending upward, and I form the recess a in the bottom of the base, and make ahole from the recess a up through the part H, and provide the screw-bolt G to hold the parts together. I then construct the trunk A, formed with the flanged bottom A A, and-having the recess or female part of a coupling, I, formed in the lower end, and having the horns O D E F preferably cast upon or made integral with the trunk A. These horns are of different shapes and sizes, to allow of forging or welding small articles upon them.

In the drawings, of equal width at the trunk than at D is shown flat on top and the ends, but is deeper at small articles which will not Fig. 3 is a side view of the horn the outer end in elevation.

O is square and tapering both ways from the trunk. F is round and tapering from the trunk, and E is oval and tapering. The male part H is fitted to the female part I of the coupling, and the parts are secured together by means of the bolt G, as shown. The parts are arranged to move easily and freely, and the trunk A is revolved at pleasure.

The whole invention is small and light, and is designed to be used on or about the forge in a blacksmith s shop, and to be convenient to carry about to any part of the shop.

In operation the invention is placed on the forge or bench, and the trunk A revolves at the will of the blacksmith, presenting such horn as may be desired.

In most blacksmiths shops there is some kind of a beak-horn, consisting of a single shape attached permanentlyto some piece of wood, or stuck into some hole in the anvilbloek when used; but this invention can be used independently, and is very convenient for taking on to the forge. There are many retain the heat sufficiently to carry them to the anvil to forge, and this beak-horn is intended to supply some,- thing which can be taken to either the forge or bench, and supply a want long felt'in the blacksmiths shop.

I do not claim a simple single beak-horn; but

What I do claim, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is I 1. A portable beak-horn formed with a base, B, upon which is coupled the flanged trunk having a plurality of horns of different shapes, and so formed and attached to the base B by the bearing H I and fastened with the boltG as to revolve upon it.

2. In a portable revolving beak-horn, the combination of the base B, connected by the bearing H I, bolt G, revolving flanged top or trunk A A A, and horns O D E F,whencon1- bined and used as shown and described, and all substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
