Steuben Ave., Crafton 5, Pa. Filed June 12, 1961, Ser. No. 116,403 2 Claims. (Cl. 273-32) This invention relates to sports equipment and more particularly to a golfers accessory.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a gol-fers accessory which will facilitate the putting of golf balls upon the green, even though an opponents ball may be lying in the line of the cup.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a golfers accessory in the form of a marker for replacing a golf ball in the path toward the hole, which will not interfere with the movement of the ball being putt in the event of movement over the top thereof.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a golfers accessory bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.

For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:

FIGURE 1 is a top plan view of an accessory made in accordance with the present invention;

FIGURE 2 is a transverse cross sectional view taken along line 22 of FIGURE 1;

FIGURE 3 is a transverse cross sectional view taken along line 3--3 of FIGURE 1; and

FIGURE 4 is a bottom plan view of the device shown in FIGURE 1.

Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a golfers accessory made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a main shaft 12 having a point 14 at one end and a bridge 16 extending transversely of the opposite end. This bridge or cross member 16 which is of downwardly tapering or wedge shaped section supports an annular marker element 18 in concentric relationship with the main shaft 12. It Will be noted that the lower edge of the annular marker element 18 is also tapered 19 so as to be readily embedded in the sod. When completely inserted into the green, the annular locator element 18 and bridge 16 will be substantially level with the sod, thus enabling a golf ball to be putt over the top thereof without deflection.

It will thus be recognized that this device can be conveniently and easily used as a marker for locating the position of a golf ball removed from the green which would otherwise block the ball of a player putting the ball toward the cup. It does not interfere with the normal lie of the blades of grass, nor present an object over which the golf ball must roll.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.

What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A golf ball position marker consisting of a vertical shaft having a top and a pointed bottom for penetrating the ground, a horizontally disposed marker element having side and upwardly facing surfaces and secured to said shaft top, said side surfaces of said marker element converging to a sharpened underedge to form a wedge for cutting and separating the ground to expose said upwardly facing surface when depressed under the ball rolling surface of the ground and said Wedge to enable one to grasp and remove the marker from the ground, said horizontally disposed marker element consisting of a wedge-shaped cross member secured to said shaft top and a wedge-shaped annular element connected to the ends of said cross member, the sharpened underedge of said wedge-shaped cross member and said wedgeshaped annular element lying substantially in one plane and said upwardly facing surfaces lying substantially in another plane thereabove.

2. The golf ball position marker of claim 1 characterized in that said upwardly facing surfaces lie in a horizontal plane.
