GEORGE H. GHATILLON, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
SCALE-PAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 303,806, dated August 19,}884.
Application filed May 29, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. OHATILLON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in ScalePans, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to novel means for attaching the suspension-hoop to a scale-pan, as pointed out in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which v Figure 1 represents a plan of a scale-pan embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
. Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, the letter A designates a scale-pan, which may be made of glass, porcelain, or any other material suitable for this purpose. In the edges of this scale-pan are recesses a a, and the suspension-hoopB is pro vided with branches 1) b, which are provided with lips c c and with arms (Z (I, said arms being made to extend at right angles to the ends of the branches 1) b, and being at such a distance from the lips c c that the scale-pan can be placed between said lips and arms, as shown in Fig. 2. On the inner ends of the arms d d are formed lugs e 6, one of which has a plain hole, through which passes a screw, f,
which is tapped into the other lug. The branches 2) b of the suspension-hub are introduced into the recesses a a, so that the lips c c bear upon the upper surface of the scalepan, while the arms (I d are situated close to l the under surface of the same, and by tight ening the screw f the branches I) b are drawn up firmly against the edges of the recesses, thereby producing a firm connection between the suspension-hoop and the scalepan.
By referring to Fig. 1 it will be seen that the recesses a a are slightly undercut at their inner edges, against which the branches 1) I) are drawn by the action of the screws f, so that said branches are not liable to slip out of the recesses, even if the screws f should become loosened from some cause. Instead of the screws f, other suitable meanssuch as rings.might be used for drawing the clamp ing-arms (Z dv toward each other.
WVhat I claim as new,and desire' to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. lhe combination, substantially as herein before described, of the scale-pan having the recesses a a formed in its edges, the branches 1) I) of the suspension-hoop, and the clampingarms (I (2, formed 011 said branches.
2. The combination, substantially as here inbefore described, of the scale-pan, the recesses a a, formed in the edges of the scalepan to receive the branches b b of the suspension-hoop, and the lips c cand clamping-arms (Z (2, formed on said branches.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE I-I. OHATILLON. [L. s]
