No. 32,154 Claims priority, application Switzerland June 8, 1959 1 Claim. (Cl. 24-247) The present invention relates to a stocking suspender.
One object of the invention is to provide a suspender which is thinner than those now in general use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a suspender easily manipulatable and reliable.
To attain these objects the Suspender according to the invention comprising a body having a recess with a fiat bottom and with lateral walls, and a flat slider removably insertable into, and longitudinally slidable within, said recess and having lateral surfaces, said lateral walls and said lateral surfaces converging longitudinally by the same angle whereby a stocking portion may be clamped between the body and the slider.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, a preferred embodiment of the suspender constructed in accordance with the invention.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the assembled Suspender in its state of use.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a movable part of the suspender.
FIG. 3 is a longitudinal section view corresponding to FIG. 1.
FIG. 4 is a transversal section view along the line IV-lV of FIG. 3, and
FIG. 5 is an elevational view of a body of the suspender.
The stocking suspender represented in the drawings comprises an oblong flat body 1 that has an end portion 2 forming a loop and provides an opening 3. A resilient band 4 may be passed through the opening 3 to form a loop and the two ends of this band 4, which are not represented, may be sewed e.g. to a ladys corset. The body has a recess 5 that is located over a flat bottom and that extends over about of the length of the body. Over the major part of its own length this recess has in crosssection a dovetailed shape. The latter walls 6 of this portion of recess are longitudinally inclined one towards the other in the direction away from the body portion 2, as can be seen in FIG. 5.
The suspender also comprises a member '7 constituting a still slider 8, a stiff end portion 9 and a flexible connecting portion 11 in the shape of a band connecting the slider 11 with the end portion 9. The latter is seated in a recess provided on the back side of the body near the opening 3. The slider 8 is flat; it has a cross sectional shape similar to the dovetailed cross sectional shape of the recess 5 and its longitudinal side surfaces are inclined towards each other by the same angle as the lateral walls 6 of the recess 5. The dimensions are such that the slider 8 may easily be removed from the recess 5 when it has been moved into the end portion of the recess that is adjacent to the opening 3 and they are also such that it clamps itself in the recess when it is moved into the portion of recess that is remote from the opening 3. The top face of the slider is striated in order to facilitate whereby the slider of use.

By means of the portions 9 and 11 the slider is connested in a permanent manner to the body and therefore can not get lost. The body 1 has a slot 12 located over the middle of the recess 5 and connected at one of its ends to the opening 3 by slot 13. For assembling the suspender the end portion 9 of member 7 is at first passed through the opening 3; then the connecting portion 11 is introduced in the slot 12 through the slot 13; finally a traction is exerted on the slider 11 so that the end portion 8 enters the recess 5; the end portion will then be permanently retained in this recess by friction.
In use a rim portion of a stocking 14 is positioned over the recess 5 and then the slider is put into its active position by first inserting it into the slider portion of the recess and then moving it into the narrower portion of the recess until it clamps the ring portion of stocking between itself and the walls of this narrower portion of recess. This active position is shown in the FIGS. 1, 3 and 4. If then a downwardly directioned force is exerted on the stocking the clamping action of the slider goes on increasing with the increase of the traction.
The body 1 and the member 7 are preferably moulded from polyethylene or a similar synthetic material. The thickness of the body 1 may be 2.8 millimeters; the thickness of the slider 25 will preferably be slightly smaller than the depth of the recess 5 so that the top face of the slider will be substantially flush with the corresponding surface of the body when the slider occupies its position The total thickness of the suspender may well be limited to 3 millimeters; this is very advantageous especially when the suspender is worn under close fitting dresses. 7
What is claimed as new is:
A stocking suspender comprising an elongated body in cluding an upper end, a lower end, a rear surface and a front surface, there being a transverse supporting band receiving opening extending entirely through said body adjacent said upper end, said body being provided with an elongated recess, said recess opening only through said front surface and extending from adjacent to said lower end to a point adjacent to but spaced from said opening, said recess having a rear boundary terminating at the lower end thereof in a lower boundary and at the upper end thereof in a curved entrance surface, said recess also having side boundaries, said side boundaries being of the overhanging sloping type whereby said recess is of a dovetailed transverse cross-section, said side boundaries converging towards said lower boundary and terminating short of the upper end of said recess to define an entrance into said recess, said body being provided with a transverse slot intermediate said opening and said recess, said slot being of a stepped construction and having a maximum cross-section adjacent said rear surface, there being a longitudinal slot extending from one end of said transverseslot into said opening, and a slider unit including a stiff slider, said slider having downwardly converging sides and said sides being bevelled, the taper and bevel of said slider sides corresponding to the taper and bevel of said recess side boundaries, said slider being receivable within the upper portion of said recess with clearances all around whereby a stocking may be secured to said body by placing a portion of the stocking in overlying I 1 said recess to a wedged stocking retaining position, and
a flexible band integrally connected to the upper end of said slider and extending rearwardly through said transverse slot, said flexible band having an enlarged head fully seated in the enlarged rear portion of said transverse slot, said flexible band having a central portion of reduced width passable through said longitudinal slot to facilitate the assembly of said slider unit with said body, and said slider having a transversely roughened upper surface to facilitate the sliding thereof relative to said body.
