UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE@ DAVID GRENLEAF BEAUMONT, OF LAREDO, TEXAS.
STAMP AND ENVVELOVPOE MOISTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 303,107', dated August 5, 1884.
Application filed April 21, 1884. (No model.)
' To all whom t may concern,.-
Beit known that I, DAVID G. BEAUMONT, of Laredo, in the county of Webb and State o' Texas, have invented a new and Improved Stamp and Envelope Moistener, of which the following is a-full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide apparatus for moist-enin g stamps and adhesive envelopes; and it consists in certain improvements in that class of staInp-moisteners in which a roller carrying an endless belt of cloth is journaled on a box or cup containing water, into which the endless bandV projects, as Will be hereinafter fully described and'clairned.
.Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a side sectional elevation of my improved stamp-nroistener, and Fig. 2 is a sectional end view.
The box A, of any desirable material and of any convenient forni or size, rnay itself be adapt. ed to contain Water; or it may be provided with a removable Water-reservoir, B. A cover, C; tted to thebox A, is provided with an oblong aperture, D, for receiving the Wheel E, whose journals F revolve in bearings G on the cover C, and Whose periphery is provided with a covering, H, of cloth, felt, or other bibulous material, which dips in the Water contained by the reservoir B. The Wheel E is cylindrical in form, and of suiiicient width to meisten any stamp or the adhesive surface of any envelope. After revolving the Wheel E, so as to saturate the covering H with Water, the stamps are moistened by pressing them lightly against the covering H of the Wheel E. This method of moistening stamps and adhesive surfaces avoids the inconvenience of doing it with the tongue, andy removes very little of the gum from the adhesive surface.
Having thus described my invention,l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, a
stamp-moistener consisting of the boX A, removable reservoir B, longitudinallyslotted cover C, and Wheel E, covered with clot-l1 or analogous material, and journaled in bearings on the cover, and projecting through the slot, substantially as set forth.
