WINDOW-SASH SUPPOBTER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 30,307, dated October 9, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, LEONARD Y. GARDI- NER, of the town of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Mode of Supporting )Vindow-Sashes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 is a front vieW of a sash and frame with one end broken, said broken portion exposing to view the india rubber ball or roller resting in the grooves or guides. Fig. 2 is a side View of the same. Fig. 3 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters indicate like parts in all the figures.
My invention consists in the employment of the india rubber ball or roller a to hold the sash in place, said balls or rollers traveling in the grooves or guides Z) formed either in the sash or frame or both. This I accomplish by making the groove or guide Z), from bottom to top of the sash a, on one or both sides, also forming the groove or guide 6, 011 the boxing or sash frame (Z, from bottom to top, so that when the two are placed together, they will form long (deep) round cavity, (as shown in Fig. 8, 1),) into which I force the india rubber ball or roller (1, said ball or roller being made sufiiciently large to cause a tight fit. By moving the sash and then leaving it at any point it will be securely held as by a weight and pulley, at the same time holding the sash so firmly in its place that it cannot be made to rattle by any sudden jar or the action of the wind.
