Description

' tied for the trade.
UNITED STATES ALBERT W. FULLER, OF FINDLAY, OHIO.
MEDiCAL COMPOUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofLetters Patent No. 302,995, dated August 5, 1884. Application filed July 17, 1883. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, ALBERT W. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Findlay, in the county of Hancock and State of Ohio,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medical Compounds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to a composition of matter for the cure 'of colic, pain in the stomach, bowel complaint, cholera morbus, dysentery, diarrhoea, coughs, colds, headache, toothaehanenralgia, frosted feet, chilblains, bruises, and cuts; and it consists of the following ingredients, combined in the proportions stated, viz: oil of winter-green, one-half ounce; gum-camphor, one ounce; sulphuric ether, two ounces; oil of Sassafras, one-half ounce; oil of cinnamon, one-half ounce; tincture of opium, two ounces; chloroform, two ounces; alcohol, one quart. These ingredients are thoroughly mingled by agitation and hot- For general use a dose for an adult is one tea-spoonful mixed with a table-spoonful of sugar or molasses dissolved in a wine-glassful of water; for a child ten years old, half a tea-spoonful treated in a similar manner;
for a child five years old, twenty drops; two" years old, eight drops; one month old, two drops. For colic and cholera morbus, take one tea-spoonful of the mixture and use warm water sweetened well, and apply flannel cloths, wrung out of hot water, to the stomach and bowels, and repeat the dose every fifteen or twenty minutes until relief is obtained. For colds, take one tea-spoonful in sweetened water just before retiring, soak the feet in water as warm as can be borne, and
after retiring keep well covered. For coughs, take one tea-spoonful of the mixture in three table-spoonfuls of honey, mix well together, and take a tea-spoonful three times a day until the cough is relieved and cured. For headache, take a dose of the mixture and bathe the head and temples freely with the compound, and repeat the operation i f not relieved, in fifteen minutes. For neuralgia, follow the sametreatment. For toothache, clean the tooth if hollow, saturate a piece of cotton with the mixture and insert it in the cavity of the affected tooth, and rub'the gums and the face with the mixture over the aching tooth. For putrid sore throat, gargle with the mixture as strong as it can be borne, swallow a dose at the same time, and bathe the outside of the throat with the clear mixture.
The mixture is a balsam, and is equally efficacious for bruises and cuts when applied externally. In cases of sore throat, the remedy should be applied frequently until the cure is effected.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described medical composition of matter, to be used as a medical compound, consisting ofoil ofwintcr-green, gum-caniphor, sulphuric ether, oil of sassafras, oil of cinnamon, tincture of opium, chloroform, and alcohol, in the proportions specified.
In testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT XV. FULLER.
