(Cl. 160-346) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in drapery hangers and has for its primary object to provide, in a device of this character comprising a track and a plurality of drapery supporting trolleys, novel means for mounting said trolleys on said track for traveling thereon.

Another very important object of the present invention is to provide a hanger of the aforementioned character which embodies a unique mechanism for actuating the trolleys for opening or closing a pair of draperies simultaneously.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a curtain or drapery hanger of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light weight, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured and installed at low cost.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

FIGURE 1 is a view in front elevation of a drapery hanger constructed in accordance with the present invention;

FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of one end portion of the device;

FIGURE 3 is an enlarged view in transverse section, taken substantially on the line 33 of FIGURE 1 but showing the device mounted with a drapery thereon;

FIGURE 4 is a fragmentary view in horizontal section through one end portion of the device, taken substantially on the line 4--4 of FIGURE 2; and

FIGURE 5 is a perspective View of one of the trolleys.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a track of suitable material, preferably an extruded plastic, which is designated generally by reference character 6. The track 6, which may also be of any desired dimensions, is generally C-shaped in transverse section, as shown to advantage in FIGURE 3 of the drawing. The track 6 is to be mounted horizontally on a wall, for example, as indicated at 7 over a window. Formed longitudinally in the upper and lower portions of the track 6 and communicating with the interior thereof are circular ways 8.

Trolleys 9 are operable on the track 6. The trolleys 9 comprise generally V-shaped, forwardly projecting brackets 10 of suitable wire which terminate in upturned end portions 11. The apex portions of the brackets 10 are formed to provide loops or eyes 12 for the reception of the usual clips 13 of conventional fasteners 14 for removably mounting draperies 15 on the trolleys 9. The trolleys 9 further comprise wire braces 16 having one end secured beneath the brackets 10 adjacent the eyes 12. The braces 16 are inclined and terminate in angularly downwardly bent lower end portions 17. Spherical rollers 18, operable in the ways 8, are journaled on the vertical end portions 11 and 17 of the members 10 and 16, respectively. The trolleys 9 still further include rectangular metallic .plates 19 which are affixed to the members 10 and 16 at the angles or bends thereof. Struck rearwardly from the plates 19 are clips 20, the purpose of which will be presently set forth.

Mounted on one end portion of the track 6 is a pair of generally U-shaped clips 21. In the embodiment shown, the clips 21 are slipped longitudinally on the back wall or web 22 and the front flanges 23 of the track 6. Extending between the clips 21 is a shaft 24 (see FIGURE 4). A grooved pulley 25 is journaled on the shaft 24.

Mounted on the other end portion of the track 6 is a pair of clips 26 which are substantially similar to the clips 21. Upper and lower pulleys 27 and 28, respectively, are rotatably mounted between the clips 26. Shafts 29, substantially similar to the shaft 24, are provided for the pulleys 27 and 28.

A cord, cable or the like 30 is operable on the pulleys 25, 27 and 28. The cable 30 extends longitudinally in the track 6 and is trained at an intermediate point over the single pulley 25. The end portions 31 and 32 of the cord 30 are trained, respectively, over the pulleys 27 and 23 and depend therefrom. The upper run 33 of the cord 30 is attached to the one-half of the trolleys 9 which are remote from the pulleys 27 and 28 through the medium of the clips 20. The return or lower run 34- of the cord 30 is attached in a similar manner to the other half of the trolleys 9 which are adjacent to the pulleys 27 and 28. The clips 20 permit adjustment of the trolleys 9 on the cable 30. However, during the operation of the device the trolleys 9 remain in a fixed position on the cable.

It is thought that the operation of the hanger will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, one of the draperies 15 is hung on the trolleys 9 on one side of the transverse center of the track 6 and the other of said draperies is hung on the trolleys 9 on the other side of the transverse center of said track. The outer ends of the draperies are anchored in any suitable manner to the end portions of the track 6, as indicated at 35. The draperies are closed when the trolleys 9 are in the position shown in FIGURE 1 of the drawing. To open the draperies, the end portion 32 of the cord 30 is pulled downwardly. Thus, the two halves of the trolleys 9 with the draperies thereon are moved outwardly on the track 6. The distance traveled by the trolleys 9 is substantially that between the outermost of said trolleys when in the position of FIGURE 1 of the drawing and the clips 21 and 26. Of course, to close the draperies the end portion 31 of the cord 30 is pulled downwardly. The back or Web 22 of the track 6 is apertured to accommodate fasteners 36 for securing said track on the Wall or other structure 7. If desired, a small reversible electric motor may be utilized for actuating the trolleys 9.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A drapery hanger comprising a track for mounting over a window, said track being generally c-shaped in transverse section and having circular, longitudinal ways in its upper and lower portions, and a plurality of trolleys, for supporting a pairs of draperies, mounted on the track, each trolley including a forwardly projecting, substantially V-shaped bracket terminating in upturned end portions, a pair of inclined, downwardly divergent braces having their upper ends aifixed to the bracket and terminating in downturned lower end portions, spherical rollers journaled on said first and second named end portions and operable in the ways, means for mounting draperies on the trolleys, and means for actuating said trolleys.

A drapery hanger comprising a track for mounting over a window, said track being generally C-shaped in transverse section and having circular, longitudinal ways in its upper and lower portions, and a plurality of trolleys, for supporting a pair of draperies, mounted on the track, each trolley including a forwardly projecting, sub. stantially V-shaped bracket terminating in upturned end portions, a pair of inclined, downwardlyv divergent braces having their upper ends afiixed to the bracket and terminatirig in downturned lower end portions, spherical rollers journaled on said first and second named end portions and operable in the ways, means for mounting draperies on the trolleys, and means for actuating said trolleys, the first named means including loops integral with the apex portions of the brackets, and clips on the draperies insertable downwardly in said loops.

A drapery hanger comprising a track for mounting over a window, said track being generally C-shaped in transverse section and having circular, longitudinal ways in its upper and loWer portions, and a plurality of trolleys for supporting a pair of draperies, mounted on the track, each trolley including a forwardly projecting, substantially V-shaped bracket terminating in upturned end portions, a pair of inclined, downwardly divergent braces having their upper ends aflixed to the bracket'and terminating in downtu'rned lower end portions, spherical rollers journaled on said first and second named end portions and operable in the ways, means for mounting draperies on the trolleys, and means for actuating said trolleys, said trolleys further including plates mounted on the brackets and braces, clips on said plates, the last named means including pulleysmounted on the end portions of the track, and'a cord trained over said pulleys and engaged in the clips for anchoring said cord to the trolleys. A drapery hanger comprising a track for mounting over a window, said track being generally C-shaped in transverse section and having circular, longitudinal ways in its upper and lower portions, and a plurality of trolleys, for supporting a pair of draperies, mounted on the track, each trolley including a forwardly projecting, substantially V-shaped bracket terminating in upturned end portions, a'pair of inclined, downwardly divergent braces having their upper ends affixed to the bracket and terminating in downturned lower end portions, spherical rollers journaled on said first and second named end portions and operable in the ways, means for mounting draperies on the trolleys, and means for actuating said trolleys, the first named means including loops integral with the apex portions of the brackets, and clips on the draperies insertable downwardly in said loops, said trolleys further including plates mounted on the brackets and braces, clips on said plates, the last named means including pulleys mounted on the end portions of the track, and a cord trained over said pulleys and engaged in the clips for anchoring said cord to the trolleys.
