WAGON-WRENCH.
ASpecification of Letters Patent No. 30,268, dated October 2, 1860.

This invention consists in the arrangement et a revolving head with poles ot' ditferent sizes in its sides in combination with a rotary handle in such a manner that the diit'erentsides ot' the head can be brought to t'ace the nut or screw to be operated upon and that by the different sizes of the holes provision is made for the diierent sized screw heads or nuts on a wagon; it consists also in combiningwith the revolving head and the rotary handle an additional stationary handle or supporter for the purpose of keeping the revolving` head up against y the nut or screw, while the same is run m or out.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation with reference to the drawing'.
The head A, is secured between two jaws B, with pivots a, which allow of turning said head so that either one of its four sides may be brought in front. The head is made of a cubic form but its form may be varied to suit taste and convenience. Two sides of the head are occupied by the jaws B, and each of the other four sides is provided with one or more holes Z), of different sizes to fit the diiierent sized nuts and screws of a wagon or carriage.
The jaws B, are attached to a stem C,
which is provided with a handle D, so that it can be rotated in order. to turn the screws or nuts in or out. An additional handle E, is slipped loosely on the stem C, and it a nut or screw is to be turned in or out, the operator takes hold of the additional handle or supporter E, with his left hand and forces the head up against the screw or nutand with the right hand he operates the 'handle D, so as to produce the required rotary motion of the screw or nut in order to turn it in or out, while the lett hand with the supporter prevents it from slipping` off the nut. The handle E, may be made straight or bent as may be most convenient.
By these means one wrench can be made to serve for all the nuts and screws of a wagon or carriage, and the head A, as well as the other parts of my wrench can be made of cast or malleable iron so that the whole device is cheap and easily put together.
