DUST-COLLECTO R.
SPECIPTCATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,852, dated June 3, 1884. Application filed February 25, 1884. (No model.)
To to whom, it may concern: A, and is kept in place by screws, which also Be it known that I, WILLIAM RICHARDSON, serve to fasten the outer bearing-ring, E, to
of Milwaukee, in the county of l\filwaukee, and the same. This outer ring, E, has a semicirin theState of Wisconsin, have invented cercular housing, which entirely covers the flexitain new and useful Improvements in Dustble ring F and the outer part of the ring D, Collectors; and I do hereby declare that the while its inner part fits loose against the corfollowing is a full, clear, and exact description responding part of the ring D. Around the 5 thereof. fold formed in the felt ring F is wound the My invention relates to improvements in cord (1, one end of which is secured at e in the dust-collectors, and will be fully described and easing, opposite which point a part of the claimed hereinafter. ring E is cut off, to allow for the passage of c In the drawings, Figure 1 is apartly broken the opposite end of said cord d. This latter 60 end View of the dust-collector. Fig. 2 is a is tied to the upper end of the coil-spring f, broken vertical section of the same, and Fig. the lower end of which has an eye to receive 3 shows in vertical cross-section a portion of the hooked head of the threaded bolt 9. A the balloon. v bracket, h, fastened at a proper angle on the The object of my invention is to provide outer face of the casing A,'ha-s a perforation 65 means whereby certain working parts of a in its head to receive the threaded bolt 9, well-known form of dust-collector are kept in which, by means of the nut t", can be adjusted close and air-tight-fitting adjustment, in order so as to give to the cord (1 the degree of tension to properly operate. This dust-collector, which it requires. forms the subject of Letters PatentNos. 27 2,47 3 Running through the open interior of the 70 and 272,474, granted to Faustin Prinz, Februballoon B is the inverted trough H, the edges ary 20, 1883, has a balloon, l3, revolving in a of which are fastened to the longitudinal bars casing, A. In the machine as heretofore 0011- 'h h. These bars are covered with felt or other structed this balloon is provided around the suitable flexible material, to form a tight joint edge of its centrally-opened head with a ring, with the inner edge of the bars 1" z" of the bal- 75 which bears on the inner face of a similarlyloon B. The trough H is extended through shaped ring fastened around the edge of the the bearing-rings C D E into the suction-fan 0 opening of the casing. As this arrangement box I, wherein it is connected to the upper end fails to exclude the air from the space between of the flue J, the inner wall of which slopes in- 3 the balloon and the casing, I substitute the ward below the said bearing-rings, so as to So 1 improved rings 0 D E, as shown in Fig. 2 of slide against the outer face of the casing A.

Inthe coil-spring k, the lower end of which is side this ring 0 is a double-L-shaped ring, D, hooked to the head of the threaded bolt Z. The outer part of the ring D adapted to give to the packed edges of the is extended outward to form a concave moldinverted trough H'the adjustment necessary ing, wherein is folded the inner edge of the to keep a perfectly air-tight joint between ble material. ring F, of felt, rubber, or other suitable flexithe same and the bars '1) of the balloon. This be beneath the trough, and will thus allow of the freest play possible to the back draft or current induced in these sections of the cloth through the trough II and flue J. In order to properly guide said flue, the pins 6 e are provided on the outer face of the ring E, between which its upper part is held in place. Though I have described only one fine, J, it must, however, be understood that each end of the trough His provided with one, both being attached in the same manner to the ends of the casing A, both ends of my machine being alike in every respect.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. 'In a dust-collector, the combination, with the revolving balloon B and the casing A, of the rings 0, D, E, and F, the cord (1, coilspring f, threaded bolt 9, bracket 71, and adjusting-nut c, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a dust-collector, in combination with the balloon B, casing A, and inverted trough II, having longitudinal bars IL 72/, the line J,
having pin j, the coil-spring k, threaded bolt.
Z, bracket m and nut 02, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a dust-collector the combination, with the balloon B, trough H, the flue J, fasteningpin j, spring, k, bolt Z, bracket m, and nut 11, of the guide-pins e 0, held in the casing A, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
at. In a dust-collector, the combination, with a revolving balloon, a case iuclosing the same, and. metallic rings fastened to each of said parts and interposed between their respective bearing-edges, of an annular band of felt or of any other flexible material interposed between said metallic rings, and having one of its rims fastened to the case, while its other rim is suitably held against a projection of the ring of the balloon, so as to form an air-tight joint between the bearing parts, substantially as set forth.
5. In a dust-collector, the combination, with a revolving balloon, a case inclosing the same, and metallic rings fastened to each of said parts and interposed between their respective bearing-edges, of an annular band of felt or of any other flexible material interposed between said metallic rings, and having one of its rims fastened to the case, and an elastic binder adapted to keep the other rim of the annular band in constant contact with the projecting periphery of the revolving balloon-ring, substantially as set forth.
6. In a dust-collector, the combination, with a revolving balloon, a case inclosing the same, and an inverted trough held in the open center of said balloon, of a flue hung over each end of said trough, and connected to the sides of the case by an elastic binder, by means of which an air-tight joint is secured between the edges of the trough and the balloon-bars, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Viscousin, inthc presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM RICHARDSON.
