Description

June 5, 1961 o. NIELSEN PRINT RoLL HOLDER Filed April 10, 1958 Paa zNvENToR Oluf Nlelsen ATTORNEY United States Patent O 2,987,326 PRINT ROLL HOLDER Oluf Nielsen, 13 W. 74th St., New York, N.Y. Filed Apr. 10, 1958, Ser. No. 727,583 1 Claim. (Cl. 281-44) This invention relates to a blue print roll holder.
It is the principal object of the present invention to provide in a blue print roll, means which can be extended therefrom for the purpose of holding the blue prints flat and extended :from the roll and to prevent the blue prints from curling or rolling up on the roll.
lt is another object of the nvention to provide a blue print roll having an arm extension that is collapsible into and adapted to be extended out of the roll for the purpose of holding the blue prints in a flat condition when the blue prints have been unrolled from the roll.
lt is a further object of the invention to provide in a blue print roll holder, simple attaching means by which the edges of the blue prints can be fixed to and lie within the confines of the roll and free of the exten'or thereof and in which the extensible holder is hingeable out of the roll to hold the blue prints provided in combination with the attaching means.
It is a still further object of the invention to provide in a blue print roll holder extensible arm means incorporated within the means within the roll that secures the edges of the blue print to the roll, the same being hingeable as a unit out of the main sleeve to fasten the blue prints therewithin and when secured within the roll adapted to have its arms extended outwardly from the fastening channel member, said arms being spring biased to their extended position and when closed within the roll held by their springs against a stop latch or by the friction gripping of the sides of the fastenng channel therewithin.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a blue print roll holder, having the above objects in mind, which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, inexpensive to manufacture and assemble, compact, durable, light in weight, effective and eflicient in use.
For a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which FIGURE 1 is a Perspective and illustrative view of the blue print roll holder with the parts of the holder extended over the paper drawings spread upon the drafting table surface,
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the blue print roll holder with the arm parts folded thereinto,
FIG. 3 is a front elevational view of the blue print roll holder free of the prints and looking upon the folded or collapsed arm parts,
FIG. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of the blue print roll holder with the parts extended in the manner as shown n FIG. 1, and
FIG. 5 is an enlarged transverse sectional view taken on line 5-5 of FIG. 2 with the prints being connected to the parts but with the holding parts folded into the outer member.
Referring now to the figures, represents an outer sleeve or print roll onto which blue prints 11 can be rolled in the usual manner. This roll has an end handle portion or cap 12 at one end thereof. If desired, a similar cap may be placed at the other end of the roll. The outer sleeve 10 has a front opening 13 that extends throughout substantially the entire length of the outer sleeve 10. Lying within this sleeve and facing the opening 13 is a channel-Shaped member 14, extending f' 2,8, Ice 97326 through the bottom of which is a raised resilient bowed spring 15 held at its ends within the channel by fasteners 16 and 17. Adapted to fit snugly longitudinally into channel-Shaped member 14, is a double thickness channel-Shaped holding member 18 that is hinged at one end by a hinge pin 19 to one end of the channel-Shaped member 14. The edges of the prints 11 as best shown in FIG. 5 are disposed in channel-Shaped member 14 and against the spring 15 and are held thereagainst by hinging the holding member 18 thereinto and Securing it by a U-shaped clip 21 removable from the end of the outer sleeve 10 but disposed over the ends of the holding member 18 and the channel-shaped member 14 to hold the prints tightly clamped within the roll sleeve 10. This clip can be best seen in FIG. 4.
Hinged at one end within the end of the holding member 18 and by the same pivot pin 19 is afoldable print holding leg 22 of double thickness with a finger nail lifting portion 23 in the outer side thereof by which it is lifted out of the holding member. A coil spring 24 around the hinge pin 19 is biased to extend the leg 22 outwardly and to hold it extended over the flattened prints and along one side edge thereof as best illustrated in FIG. 1.
Hinged to the outer end of the leg 22 is a channel- Shaped leg extension 25 adapted to be folded inwardly and collapsed over the leg 22. The leg 25 is hinged to the leg 22 by means of a pivot pin 26 and is biased to this extended position by a coil spring 27 on the hinge pin 26. The side leg 22 has a stop projection 28 to limit the outwardly hinged movement of the leg extension 25 so that it is held at right angles to the side leg 22 and parallel to the outer sleeve 10.
The leg extension 25 is folded inwardly upon the leg 22 and both are folded inwardly and collapsed into the channel-Shaped holding member 18. They will be held therein by fittng tightly against the sides of the channel-Shaped holding member 18.
It should now be apparent that there has |been provided a blue print roll device having an extendable arm that will overlie the blue prints when they have been extended from their roll and will hold the same in a fiat condition and prevent them from annoyingly rolling up upon the roll.
1t should also be apparent that there has ben provided a simple device attachable to and lying within the blue print roll by which the edges of the blue print can be secured within the roll and in a manner so that they can be rolled up upon the roll when the extendable arm has been retracted within the roll and of which the forms are pivoted to the same members that secure the prints to the roll.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
'What is claimed is:
