No. 746,505 3 Claims. or. 221-232 either hand touching the cigarettes and possibly contaminating the dispensed or ejected cigarette by handling the same. is especially advantageous to automobile drivers and persons engaged in unsanitary work and to workmen having one hand continually in use while workabove purposes which is easy to refill, without damaging the cigarettes and in which the ejecting means will not jam nor tearthe cigarette paper, and which is of simple, inexpensive and durable construction.

These together with other objects-and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details ofconstruction'and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like'v numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Referring to the drawings by numerals, the cigarette case, designated generally by the numeral 1, comprises, as its basic components, a flat, open top, rectangular cigarette container 3, and a flat, open bottom, rectangular cover 5 for the container 3 fitting with a slip fit downwardly over said container.

The cover 5 comprises side walls 33 and front and .rear end walls 35, 37'and fits downwardlyrover the container 3 with. its bottom edge substantially flush with the bottom face of the bottom wall of the container 3. A cigarette discharge bottom opening 39 is provided in the front end wall 35 of the cover 5 to register with the opening 23, when the cover 5 is applied, for ejection of cigaretes outwardly of the case 5.

The ejecting means comprises the following: An elongated manually operative ejecting slide 41 is guidingly mounted on the underside of the bottom wall 15' for advance from a retracted position longitudinally of said wall 15 to engage an upstanding pusher finger 53 on said slidecwith the butt endlof a cigarette 9 in the trough- 17 to eject the cigarette. The slide 41 has a serrated bottom face 55 depending below the bottom wall 15 fornonslip engagement of the thumb of a hand 'withsaid slide to advance the same, and is guidingly mounted for advance. and retraction by means of longitudinal tongues; 57 thereon sliding in longitudinal grooves 59 in the bottom wall 15 which are open at the rear end wall 13 for insers tion of said slide 41 in place when the rear section 27 of the rear end wall 13 is removed. A pull cord 69 is terminally connected to the lower end of the spring 65, as at 71, and to the pusher finger 53, as at 73, and is slidably trained under a cross-pin 75 in the lower end portion of said slot 29.

Follower means is provided for the stack of cigarettes 9 for urging the same successively into the trough 17. This means comprises an elastic band 77 looped through a transverse bottom groove 79 in the rear section 27 of the rear end wall 13 from which it extends forwardly at opposite sides of the bottom wall 15 in grooves 81 in said wall 15 and is trained under and upwardly around a transverse headed pin 83 in said wall 15 to extend upwardly in the slots 21 in straddling relation to the stack of cigarettes 9.
